Alright, here's an IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Whilst I'm planted on my rear end, attempting to allow my FEET to heal from the beating they took from a PSYCHOPATH with MPD - not a TECHNICAL diagnosis, you understand, just an... observation, rather!

ANYWAY'S: I NEED something to do, whilst I'm recovering... So...

Who here has a CHEMISTRY LAB of some sort? Or even a mechanical laboratory of some sort, really! I'll take any distractions from my problems at all...!

I won't break anything, I swear... I DO have doctorates in Chemistry, Mathematics, AND Engineering...!

Please, give me SOMETHING -- ANYTHING...! Because I promise, you will NOT be disappointed when you see me at work with my SCIENCE MAGIC!

But sir... Isn't that term a little bit of a tautology? I mean, SCIENCE MAGIC?

I mean, Magic IS Science, and Science IS Magic, likewise...! (I should know, being a witch, after all...)

Science IS Magic, it's true, but...

You're a WHAT, now???

A witch, sir...! Sorry, I know that's a lot to take in, especially considering your faith in Science Magic, but... well... Surprise? Heh! Sorry!

It is, but that doesn't mean you can't combine the two. Mixing potions is nothing more than chemistry under a different name with different components than you typically see.

I mean, witches? For SERIOUS!?

Please, I'm not some ignorant cauldron jockey like you see in fairy tales. I'm a techno-mage.

A... techno-mage? What's that?

Someone trained in both scientific study and magic. I may not have multiple PHD's but I do have a BS in electrical engineering (and one in theory of magic) from Georgia Tech.

The best way to be able to break the rules is to know what they are so you can exploit the loopholes.

Ah, cool, I guess...!

I mean, I DO have multiple PhD's but well -- I can appreciate others' educational experiences too...!

Ah, true enough...! I mean, I think that these are NORMAL ingredients to use in "chemistry" as you put it, given that I only studied potions-making at Hogwarts -- without any other background in "chemistry", rather...

I'm Parnel, by the by... And you are, miss...?

Shaw, Izzy Shaw. The program I went through you still had to learn everything a non magical student did, but you had additional instruction in magic. Then I went to university and double majored in electrical engineering and theory of magic.

Pleased to meet you Parnell.

Oh, nice! I mean, we don't have any magical universities in the UK, at least that I know of... though we DO have several government-sponsored training programmes, like Auroring and Healing!

It's nice to meet you, as well, Miss Shaw...!

[info]izzyshaw
2013-07-15 09:49 pm UTC (link)
In my timeline there was no segregation of magical and non magical, everyone was intertwined. So all the major universities in the UK had programs for magical studies after secondary school.

So you had magic high school and then...a kind of vocational training after that?

Indeed? Interesting, that...! I mean, I suppose there'll always be problems with Muggles and Muggle-born mages, so long as we uphold the ridiculously outdated Statute of Secrecy, so... I guess it would only make sense for the stupid Statute to have been down stricken by your time, after all.

Yes, I had vocational training, in the most basic sense, I suppose... I mean, I had three bloody years of utterly brutal training under some of the best Aurors, in all SORTS of things -- like Potions, and Transfiguration from Inanimate to Animate, and visa versa...

Your.. clinic...?

You're an MD, then? Excellent...!

Would you MIND allowing me to use your chem lab? I mean, you don't NEED every inch of it for your clinic work, do you...? Or... maybe I can HELP with your clinic's work, too! ANYTHING to distract me, at all, really...

[info]not_theotherguy

I have an MD, yeah.

I'll let you have access but only if I can trust you. Chemicals are dangerous and there's a lot of different things in there.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]the_autodidact
2013-07-14 03:28 pm UTC (link)
Oh, you can DEFINITELY trust me, sir. I KNOW how dangerous chemicals can be -- especially caustic ones...

Funny story about that, actually! I mean, I was a TA, you know as most PhD students ARE -- and a student actually dropped a phial of BASIC SOLUTION on her LEG... And she called it ACID.! As in "Dr Reid, I DUMPED ACID ON MY LEG! HELP!" And if i hadn't KNOWN what she was actually working with, well, I could have made her burn THAT much worse, by DUMPING MORE BASE on it...!

Well... maybe it's not THAT funny a story, but -- I still get the occasional chuckle out of it...!

Anyway's, please, trust me to your chem lab... Because I am BORED to DEATH sitting on my gluteus maximus here...!

A college major confused neutral solution with an acid?

Oh, no, sir, she actually confused a BASIC solution -- as in BELOW 7 on the pH scale - with an acidic one...! And she wasn't a major in anything but -- well, I think it was education, actually! Heh! See,it was actually an introductory class for like, liberal arts majors...!

Where IS your clinic, anyway's?

And you are, sir...?

Indeed? I guessed as much, from your MD and your chem lab...! Heh! Anyway's, well. I'll be over soon-ish... And I'll demonstrate some Chemistry MAGIC for you... if you want me to, that is, Dr Banner, sir...!

((Ooc: also known as PHYSICS MAGIC, that actually appears to be more CHEM MAGIC to ME, at least...! X_D <3 He's SUCH a goofball, for serious! <3))

Oh, true enough, Dr Banner, sir...! But still-- have you ever seen a ROCKET in your chemistry lab? I can make that happen - and without damaging a single thing in there...!

((ooc: Do you maybe want to have a THREAD with these two, backdated to YESTERDAY, of course!? X-D <3 Or is Peggy keeping you plenty busy right now?))

I don't let just anyone in my chem lab. And I'm not sure if you qualify yet.

But playing's what I do BEST with SCIENCE and especially with CHEMISTRY!

But ok, ok, I'll behave myself on your turf, sir... If you'll only let me IN to it. I'm bored out of my fricking SKULL here, because really, when you can read at 20,000 words a minute rate, well... even an island FULL of books can only keep you busy for so long...!

No, really, it's TRUE...! The human brain can actually PROCESS about eleven million bits of information per second, unconsciously, even though the conscious mind can only process sixteen bits per second... And so yes, I CAN read that fast!

((Bee tee dubs, sorry for the delay on this thread, and this conversation, of course! I lost power to my monitor for a little bit, there, so... I just had to shut down my COMPUTER! D-: IKR? Horror beyond horrors...! X-D <3))

Me too. No offense Doctor Spencer but you'd have to be flipping pages every second or something. And sure you could read I guess in theory, if you had a scrolling screen feeding you the text but your comprehension would be shit.

[info]the_autodidact

Every 1.33 seconds, actually, when you assume the average number of words per page is 250 wpp, and thus... well... yeah...! But I SWEAR, I can in fact, read that fast! I mean, I read this book called The Empty Planet -- 264 pages, and I managed to read AND comprehend it in all of 10 minutes... Well, AND buy it, of course...! Heh!
