Isn't it funny the things we forget when there isn't someone who cared to keep track. Seems my twenty-fourth, much like my twenty-third, birthday has come and gone without much precedence. Perhaps I am getting to old to care anymore. Or with Robin's death I simply haven't the gumption

At least old 'maid' no longer suits me. At least Vaisey wouldn't have that moniker to amuse himself with, there's that. What would one call an old unwed mother?

A mother. I don't think whether or not you're married has much relevance here.

I realize it doesn't, but... It hardly feels right, no matter what I tell myself.

If it feels wrong then why didn't you marry the father? And by the way, 24 is still pretty young. Not as young as some women who are first time moms but hardly old.

You have my condolences ma'am, that's horrible.

I'm twenty two. And never had like...a real birthday until I turned nineteen.

But there's no reason to feel bad because you're not married. You're a mom, just like everyone else.

My father had seen to marking them every year. Even if it was with a simple extravagant bolt of fabric. And I don't remember it until a week and a half has passed.

When I come from, unwed mothers were sent off to convents, and shamed for the rest of their lives. If you were a woman of status you were forced to wed whomever would have you.

My mother was always too drunk to care, and there were six of us. It was a shock she could remember our names, although I'm not sure she did. Did you know I have a brother named Justin? Yeah.

That's crap. It's not like that here.

An old maid? At 23? Surely you're joking, dear! I mean, if I were an old maid, well... I dunno, even... I mean, maybe I sort of AM, considering how many of the eligible men I'd already burned through in my time and place and space...!

I mean, happy belated birthday, dear...! I just -- er -- sorta celebrated mine own twenty-third birthday, as well, at the beach party... though of course, I have NO IDEA what DATE it really is here...! So: when was your birthday, out of strictly selfish curiosity, dear...?

Well yes. When I come from most women are married at the age of fifteen. And have at least had three children, if not more, by now.

Thank you, It's the second of July of 2013. My birth date is June 22 1170.

Ah yes, I see... Well, there's no reason to be ashamed of being childless (or at least, almost-not-quite-a-parent) or unmarried here, rather! I mean, I'm still unmarried myself, at 23. And I certainly have no kids and I'd best not be pregnant!

Oh wow, you're kidding! I mean, I must have shown up here on on mine own birthday; I was born on 23 June 1959! Wow... I mean, we're practically birthday twins, rather.... Well, almost, at least! Ha!

By the way, I'm Parnel... And you are, miss?

((Ooc: Oh my G-d, this could be PERFECT! X-D <3 You remember how on my application, I mentioned how she could learn what her name really MEANS here? Well, Marian, as a medieval woman, would be the PERFECT person to break it to her... because really now, the name Parnel fell out of use around Marian's time, because it came to become a slang for "slut"! X-D So... yes! X-D PLEASE tell her what her name really MEANS, Marian! ;-D <3))

I call myself a mother and a single mother if my martial status is relevant to a conversation - a proud, single mother.

I was much older than you when I became a mom.

I am, I'm proud that I'm having Robin's son. I don't think things would have ever got to the point that I could have, back in Nottingham. I simply wish he were here to share in the joy.

Strong. I have to be honest, I do like that. I hope I can be strong when the time comes. Even with the modern conveniences I worry. Even if he has a den of Dragonriders willing to care for him...
