I went shopping for myself in Texas today, rather than bringing back all kinds of general supplies. I now have clothes that fit properly, rather than my baggiest tee-shirt and tracksuit bottoms, and I feel so much better for it. And I think the shop assistant in the art shop must have thought I'd gone mad or something, but I won't be running out of paints, pastels, boards or canvases for a long time. Arthur, I got you some more of those notepads you're always scrawling in, and a decent fountain pen as well. And some ink for it. And some other things.

Also, I found a shop that sells jaffa cakes and Yorkshire tea. Sold them. Sorry.

If anyone wants me to get them something specific from through the door, let me know and I'll hunt for them tomorrow.

Jaffa cakes? And... past tense, you say? Sold? HA!

Eames, you'd best be sharing that with the rest of us...!

Oh? Why's that, then?

Because I'm asking very nicely? Ha!

No, really, because it's not kosher at all to go and clean out the stock of a good, proper English shop, and NOT share with the other ex-pats here...?

Oh, there's plenty of other stuff in it. Hob-Nobs and all sorts.

Oh yes? Are there chocolate HobNobs nowadays, or are you in fact, hoarding all the chocolate biscuits?

Of course there are chocolate Hob-Nobs. And no, I'm not.

Oh, are there, really? Well, then, I suppose that's alright, then...!

Sorry, Eames; I'm from 1982, you understand, so... these modern advancements such as CHOCOLATE HobNobs are rather new to me...! I mean, in my day, they were just -- oatmeal flavoured, really...!

Please, my god, tell me you have Jaffa cakes still! I haven't had one since 1938!

Of course I do, my dear.

That is entirely too long to wait to have Jaffa cakes.

You are wonderful.

I'll trade you for some homebaked shortbread if you'd like? Or I'm willing to trade my chocolate digestives.

Oh you are a saint. I'll be around with a tin this afternoon. I'd give you the entire tin for one lone Jaffa cake

What the devil are Jaffa cakes and why are you all fawning over them? I'm British and I've never heard of the things.

Oh, sir, you're obviously missing out on absolute perfection, really! I mean, Jaffa cakes are these spongy little biscuits, more like - well, orange sponge cake, really! I mean, they really are basically orange sponge cake, coated with chocolate! They are so bloody good!

I think you must have come before the Jaffa orange, then, because that's what the cakes are named for...?

I'm familiar with the oranges, I've spent more of my life in Egypt and the Levant than I have back 'home'. When did these cakes come about?

Ah, did you really? Were your parents explorers, or diplomats, rather?

And you know, sir, that's a good question, actually, sir...!

Let's see if this Google.com thing that Mr Stark told me about can help furnish the answer...

[added five minutes later]

Ooh! Not only did I find out that they were first made in 1927, but... there are now Blackcurrant versions, as well! Joy! I mean, I LOVE blackcurrant, for serious...!

Archeologists actually, Egyptologists to be precise, as am I.

1927? That would explain it yes.

Actually, the sponge cake part is plain. Then there's a layer of "smashing orangey bit", which is like a little bit of orange jelly, and then there's dark chocolate on top of that. Sometimes, they release limited edition ones that are entirely covered in chocolate.

Oh aye! Goats. Whole goats, that I might find someone to keep for me, as I cannot possibly do it myself.

But I should like goatmilk. Not that stuff you humans put in cans or cartons or whatever in Eru's earth you call them these days.

[....]

Do you seriously expect the poor bloke -- or... bird, I suppose he is right now! Ha! (Sorry, Eames!) -- to find you a goat from the bloody city that the door opens onto? I mean, at Best he'd be able to bring you a carton of goat's milk, but... well, that won't last too long, knowing you're probably as much a glutton as I am!

Well, minstrel, what if you were unable to provide music or songs for some reason? What would you do then if you had no secondary skills to fall back on? Perhaps you should try looking after a goat. Maybe you have hidden talents!

I'm better at hearing it. Although I prefer to draw and paint, rather than making any sort of music.

What's wrong with goats milk if it's from a carton? Is there that much of a difference?

Valar. I am from Middle-earth, we have no cartons or cans. But fresh milk! Fresh foods. Without all of those [...] extras added to it. Have you smelled cow milk from a carton recently?

It's foul.

Oi! There's nothing added to bottles of milk... It's only just pasteurised -- you know, briefly cooked and then cooled again -- to prevent diseases and other germs from proliferating within the milk! Which I, for one, am grateful for, really, considering I'm not Immortal like you...!
