In the centre of this vast, and yet empty city, there stands a tower of stone. The cracks suggest that it is of a hardy nature, able to withstand severe weather conditions, although the day is mild. The whole structure throbs with an unexplained electricity.

There is a scent of salt in the breeze, there is a beach nearby. It may well be a safe place to swim today, but at night the sharks know no fear, and everything fears them.

1944? Liberation of Paris? What year was it when you went to bed?

Ah, there you go then! It hasn't happened yet. Give it another 18 years.

Everyone is so obsessed with the future lately that they forget about the present.

Heh. The future is the past, it all repeats in one form or another.

And the past is always present. Time is an illusion, then. Yes, I like that.

Ah, Peter Pan? Goodness, you all do enjoy your literary references.

Well it seems to fit. You'll find people here from several eras and dimensions, several of which are works of fiction in one place or another.

This must be what Gil was blabbering on about. How interesting. Fiction? Curious. Most curious.

An American writer. Always going on about living two lives, being from another world, the future, God knows. I always assumed he was on the absinthe.

I don't know, I suppose its possible. I never heard of that sort of thing back home, but considering I kept quiet about my own situation it wouldn't surprise me.

I imagine most people would keep quiet unless they wanted to be thrown in the looney bin.

That or killed or experimented on.

So 1926! That was a fun year.

Yes, better to avoid all of that.

Fun? Do you think so? I haven't been having fun. Or perhaps I've been having too much fun, and you have to pay for fun, and not with money. Not only with money. I haven't enough to light a fire in the winter, and the baby always cries. It hasn't been fun.

Good for you, sir. I find that hard to believe, but this whole place is rather hard to believe.
