Ladies!

I should like to make a request of you.

I am looking for a lady - or possibly two, if there is interest - to attend to me at Vinyamar. I would prefer if you are good with hair and clothing, although if you lack one of the two, I suppose you can be trained. In return, you will have your own chambers at the palace, and food and drink from our tables.

Honesty and good breeding is necessary, although wealth and status is not.

Please contact me at once if you are interested, my need is dire.

Well, obviously it is being raised with the proper moral fiber and social understanding to present yourself as a polite, well-mannered individual.

Uh huh. You guys are a little old fashioned up there aren't you?

I see not how desiring good manners is old-fashioned.

It was more the idea of calling it good breeding. And having someone else to tend to hair and clothing, the whole idea of royalty really.

My husband is king, and I am his queen. I will not act in a way that embarrasses him.

Doing your own hair would embarrass him?

I did my own hair for all of my youth.

But I am now Queen.

I do not think you mean that in a positive way.

Didn't mean it in a negative way either. Just don't really understand how someone's social standing changes how they take care of themselves or not.

Seamstresses must fix their own hair; they have not the money nor standing to have some one do it for them.

Queens have all the time and money to do such things, and by doing so they may employ those lower on the social ladder than themselves in good paying, respectful work. It is a duty as well as a convenience.

But isn't that essentially telling them that you're better and more deserving than they are?

I am queen, and as such, represent my people.

To respect me is to respect the Ñoldor. I am more than just a person who is better or more deserving.

I do not believe in divine right. It was not Eru or the Valar who elected my father as king and so I do not think we are inherently better or more deserving as much as we are fortunate. But it was through his wisdom, his words and his leading of the Ñoldor from Cuiviénen to Valinor that earned him the title as king. It is a title I have inherited with as much grace as I might muster and not nearly half as much wisdom as he. But, we do our best to remain fair and equal with our people, but we are not infallible.

Nay, it would not. She does it marvelously. However, it is my policy that if she desires to have someone pin her hair for her then she may well find someone to do it.

Never said she couldn't, just trying to understand it all. Where I come from kings and queens and having people attend to you ain't so common.

I understand; the world of Men is quite different from the one we knew as well. We have seen the birth of Men, but to find civilization now.. Well, it is vastly different from the one we shaped at its conception.

All worlds have their good and bad, but I am only one elf - I may criticize it based on my own biases but that is unfair. And say I say, it is both good and bad.

Might you continue with Lady Andreth's service? Surely she will suffice, if she gives her consent?

But she is our nephew's wife.
