A little philosophy for everybody to ponder.

What is duty?

That's a very succint view of duty but sometimes doesn't duty clash with our moral integrity?

If you allow it to. Why have morals if you don't hold to them?

Sometimes we have no choice but to do our duty, even if it clashes with our personal morality.

And what duty requires such sacrifice of integrity?

I was a soldier in the Second World War. I don't like killing people, even the enemy if I could help it, but I had a duty to the protect my country, did I not? That duty precipitated my morality.

There is expectation, surely, but I might argue that moral and duty became one in that instance. You swore to protect your country, and your moral idea of a pledge and what it meant led you to your duty.

So one moral outweighted the other in that scenario? Even though I still live with the consequences, sacrificing part of my morality for a duty was good?

Only you may decide if it was good or bad. Choices made, consequences suffered.

I suppose my subconscious is already doing that for me.

Thank you for your insights.
