I have a desperate and serious need of gold!

Pure gold, mixed with nothing, that can be hammered out thin enough to use as a hair ribbon. I have but six of them with me, and it is not nearly enough. I like to wear three braids on each side, and if I lose one, as I almost did in the sea, it is a cruel fate to be sure.

So!

Is there gold in the hills, and those who can mine it?

And fucking gold ribbons is one of them? You already have six! Get a fucking grip on yourself. I don't give a fuck if you want to go and find gold and make fucking ribbons out of it, but stop acting like it's an emergency situation, when there are people here who actually do need help, and there are things that actually still need done, much more urgently than your hair. You aren't a king here, pal.

Why would we? My niece offers to aid in farming and is shut down cruelly by the people she wished to aid. My other cousin offers to aid in the raising of a barn and he is made to feel guilty for his expertise, and chased away. My son offers his aid in healing and he is told no, because his methods are too archaic for this world.

We are treated like children.

My niece grieves for her dead son and she is told to shut up because she dare call a woman who did not understand her grief heartless. That is cruelty.

My friend is told not to place her 'judgey elf opinions' in a public forum.

Again. And again we face disrespect and so I will not have it.
I am tired and I am angry.

But see you're just doing exactly the same thing. You're rushing to judge me based on what other people of my race have treated you like. You're making assumptions.

I don't agree with gold ribbons, I've made that clear. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't help you in an emergency situation, and it doesn't mean that I hate you as a people, it tells you nothing except my opinion on gold ribbons.

And even after this wee disagreement, I would still fucking help you.

It tells me nothing we say may be said freely. We must guard our words, hide our desires, and defer to the wisdom of the people on this island who despise us for whatever cause.

"We are all in this together" and yet we have been driven away. While your people may speak of their endless pregnancies and demand that we pay attention to the feelings a woman has of her body, my cousin and my king cannot express his desire for ribbons.
