How strange a thing.

I see that Arda is not yet devoid of wonders.

I've been waiting for this my entire life.

For what have you waited, sir?

To meet you. Hail lord Elrond Peredhel! Tolkien's greatest work. Besides Gandalf, but I'm somewhat biased.

To meet me! Then, well met, sir.

From where do you hail?

And may I ask, who or what is 'Tolkien'? This is a word with which I am quite unfamiliar.

I hail from a city called Chicago, in the land of North America, Master Elrond.

Tolkien would be the loremaster that crafted the tales of your [...] people.

Ah, a loremaster indeed. I should like to speak with him then, if ever I had the chance. I am considered, as perhaps you know, a bit of a loremaster myself.

I know not of Chicago, nor of North America, but I should like to hear of it from you? I fear my halls and hospitality may be...diminished of late, but I should have you as my guest for dinner, humble though it may be?

It would be an honor to accept your invitation! I offer a bargain--I am a keeper of many strange stories and many strange magics. I offer them in exchange for knowledge.

Ah, but I have no need for bargains. I give my knowledge freely and gladly.

That's weird. But cool.

Strange?

In your world is knowledge a commodity to be bought and sold?

Yes and no. Most things don't give away knowledge without getting something from it. You know--make bargains, strike deals.

How strange. The only way to increase knowledge is to share it. To give it to others, who add their own wisdom to it, and return it to you in time. If knowledge and wisdom are hoarded, they only decay.

Knowledge is power, Lord Elrond, some things like to stay in power and keep a good grip on what they know until you're desperate and do anything to get it.

What a world you come from! Knowledge is power, of course. But it is a power for good, sir, if used correctly.

And whatever may be practiced in your world, I share it freely.

I'm not complaining. I like to keep my secrets.

Ah, and all have secrets.

But many things are kept secret that perhaps should not be; for the sake of the keeper as well as others.

But worry not, I shall not pry.
