Men! Women all! I beg your attention a moment. A gentleman has brought it to my attention that food stores are uncertain in this city and we have need for more permanent sustenance than what we have been given.

But there has been neglect of the planting season. We missed winter and spring will soon be upon us. I call to work now any able bodied men and women to plow the fields with me so we may begin the spring planting. Tuor shall lead us, he is skilled in farming and will instruct you on the work if necessary.

If there are farmers, Applejack and kin, I bid you come with me so that we might seek the best soil for our work before we begin.

Craftsman Curufin, put your prejudice aside and make the tools for our trade if we find none.

Aikanáro, come with me to speak with the trees so we might decide the nature of the seasons as they tell it.

I wasn't aware you meant the, lets call it, new place we have access to. I agree I don't really believe in theft either, but as I've mentioned there doesn't seem to be anyone in the place that's apparently called Happy Fun Land. And from what I here it's been created as a break for us, which might sound odd, but trust me it's nothing compared to some things that've been pulled on us. Therefore as far as I'm concerned, bearing in mind we could suddenly lose all our crops, anything out there's ours.

It's complicated. I don't know anything, no one here can, that's kind of the nature of the island. It's not to be trusted. In theory we're fine. We're taking care of food as best as we can, but the fact is knowing this place we'll have a plague of locusts next week. It's better to be safe than sorry, to have too much than not enough, you know? Also it depends on how we're classifying resources. I for one feel we could always do with more alcoholic beverages. Again just to be on the safe side.

I defer to your wisdom on the matter, I have been here only a few days. I understand well the fear of losing crops. If we lost even one of our two harvests half our population would be driven to death within the year. As such, frustration and worry are understandable! Here and elsewhere. Life is life, no matter where it exists, or indeed, in what form.

Thank you for answering my question. I have been instructed that the harvesting of crops is well under way, though I had been allowed to believe that was not the case, initially. What sustenance the farm provides--assuming the harvest comes to fruition, as you suggest it could be in danger given the nature of the island--should provide enough succor for a time. Do people arrive on the island in large numbers? How frequently?

Well I've been a long time, but I wouldn't say I was an expert. I'm glad you seem to agree with me though. I think we're lucky in that we don't have to rely purely on what we grow. I love the idea of being self-sufficient, for all of us, but here it's not that simple, but then I don't suppose it anywhere as you say.

No problem, I can't see the point in lying. Everyone needs to know the situation, and I'm glad you're not rally against it as some people seem to. we were here a while with not a lot of people and quite a lot of food, but the crops have been around and grown for a while now. As for people arriving on the island - do you know the phrase 'how long's a piece of string?' Not long ago we lost a lot of people, but no, generally speaking we don't get a lot of people at once, it just seems to be one person every few days. But we can't rely on that. Really we can't rely on anything, that's the whole problem.
