[Past midnight last night, Philip posts this video of Alexander karaoke-ing. Imagine, of course, longer hair tied back, more old fashioned clothing, and the 'crowd' being equally pissed stationers!]

Maybe I'm being unfair. Old Earthers aren't all like I thought. Still, I've never heard a station administrator sing about preparing to dock and firing thrusters, either.

Sounds like you're a good friend.

I'll bet. Lots you can do with riding. Not that I can imagine anyone from way back then not being offended by it.

His son? That's first expansion levels of strange. In the 22nd century, when they went out at sub-c and the time dilation meant that people ended up older than their own spacer parents.

It's normal to go drinking with your dad where you're from?

I don’t know, I’ve met some of my dad’s friends back in his time , and I don’t think many of them would be that offended by it ha ha, if anything they probably be the ones coming up with the lyrics

I’m still younger than him but only. Y about 5 yrs now

I do t know I have Been here since I was nine. It’s normal here. Friending on hi e much you like your dad I guess abs we’ve always been super close

You'd know better than me. It wouldn't surprise me if half of what we learnt about Old Earth is completely off course. You just have to look at the crazy things one colony can believe about another once they're out of regular contact. Still, I'm not going to start singing about horses to anyone from 1780, just in case.

That's not as bad as being older than him, but it still has to be an adjustment.

I guess that makes you a proper stationer then! That's good. It's good you're close. He's not going to mind that you shared the song?

Or only for the best, they can be weird about women anyway even without erotic horse sings

It’s a a higher ah judgment for him than for me I think

In sort of half and half I still say I’m from New York but few hi here.

Didn’t mean to share it but I think it’s okay. It’s jus some fun

I'd ask you to retransmit but you seem drunk enough that I doubt it would

Like in France? They get confused if you're not wearing a skirt?

I get it. I have the place I was born, and then my ship, where I say I'm from, because it doesn't seem like a lie.

He's the station administrator. Sort of. It's definitely fun. Are you going to get up and sing too? Fair contract, if he did!

Something I learnt there - if a very drunken Earther in a downtimer port calls me a pretty boy, I shouldn't assume it's a language problem! No, I'm sure Citizen Hamilton's friends have more sense.

Legacies matter. It doesn't matter where you are, because who you are stays the same.

I'm tempted. I want to hear what you sing! But the last thing stationers here want is a drunken spacer, so maybe only for a while.

So I learned, eventually! I'll never get used to downtimers. But I'd still go back. Visiting the past isn't all that different than going out to a remote colony. Like Rica. You know Citizen Becket, right?

Right this minute he's inspiring you to sing, I think.

I have no excuse. I haven't got a shift tomorrow because I'm stuck downstation, and I can't bring the Tradelines into disrepute because nobody seems to know anything about them.

But I'm not singing. You don't know spacer songs.

She's from downtime. I don't mean because of time travel, but because the Ricans took the slow ships and they missed a lot. Not that she ever let that hold her back.

What's his legacy, then? Tayreys are spacers, right back to before the war, but I know there were no space stations back in the 1780s.

A Ham? Because he's Alexander? I like that! He had to have known it. It's too good a performance for him not to, especially if he's been drinking.

oh yeah i knw because hses my lins beter let anything hold her back.

heer they call hin a founding father, in the histryo nooks. he founded hte USA, he as the first treasruer, he wrote the federa;ost papers and helpd write the constitution, which is kike the charter on rica i suppose. he's a war hero, and a writer, a lawyer, he founded americas first natinal bank. the list is endlless.

hahaha yeah jst his initials like a rapper name. A Ham. no clue.

Can't say I deciphered all of that, but a war hero who wrote a colonists' charter is - much more to live up to than a station administrator. Not easy. Especially not if you're stuck stationside.

Does that make you P Ham?
