This is Liberty again. Maybe you have different customs here, but I have no idea how long I might be here for, so I'm going to ask this now in case it isn't long at all.

I want to have a child of my own. Naturally.

Is there any man here who will help me? Over twenty, human, no genetic issues?

We can just have overnights and part as friends once I know I'm carrying, I'm not asking for contract, although it'd be nice to get to know each other. I'm from a small colony with very unfavorable demographics and this is probably my only chance.

Hi. I'm over twenty, human, but I have a bit of a mutation in my DNA. But, in an Amazing way.

Oh... Wait, I didn't fully read this. You're looking to have a child?

Hi! You got it. I'm from a colony world, we took the slow ships out, introducing some more genetic diversity would be good, but not mutations that need tweaking in an advanced lab or anything, because we haven't got that capability.

I thought being direct couldn't hurt.

Uh... I'm Peter Parker, your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. And no, I've had this whole thing since I was fifteen years old. I'm different, have bee after the spider bit me. I've looked into it, there's no tweaking needed. It's a whole thing... Totems and all that.

Hey, being direct doesn't hurt!

Liberty Becket. It's nice to meet you, even if I'm not sure what you mean. You're a spider-man and you were bitten by a spider? So if you had children they'd be some kind of...spider hybrids? Because that's not disturbing at all...

Nice to meet you, Liberty. And no, what? Why does everyone go down that line of questions. I've had one daughter, but she's from another universe. It... It's hard to explain. But no, no Spider-Hybrids.

It seemed like the most obvious question! What is it that makes you a spider-man, then?

Let's meet up near one of the parks? Say... On the second wheel? There was a lot of buildings I can use to show off. Not that that is my thing, but it's fun to show people what I can.

Hello Liberty, I'm Brynhild, but my friends call me Bryn. And I hate to burst your bubble, but you might need to widen your scope a little, there are very few human males here that don't have some form of genetic mutation. I'm sure even my two fine specimens have some genetic differences to them.

Hello! Nice to meet you. Maybe I didn't explain myself properly? Genetic diversity is a good thing, I don't mind if they're different from me. What I don't want to do is knowingly introduce a hereditary disease into a small population.

Nice to meet you too! It is smart to know what your getting into with genetics, though. I don't believe anyone here has a hereditary disease, but it would be wise to ask to be sure. Though there are things that would be passed on through genetics, that you should know about. For instance, all of my children had have red hair.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]libertybecket
2022-01-05 10:06 pm UTC (link)
Exactly, that's why I was asking. It's not anybody's fault if they have that kind of disease, but for something like this I need to know. Things like red hair I don't really need to know about, because it's not going to be bad for the colony if in a few generations more people have red hair.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]brynhild_ingouf

There are other things besides diseases that can be passed on though, and if you don't have people that would know how to handle those sorts of genetic mutations, it could be dangerous.

Also, not to rain on your sexytime parade, but it could be a long while before you go home. Are you sure you want to get pregnant now?

I mean, I can be a man if you like but I can get you pregnant regardless. Not human though, but it wouldn't have to be with my child, unless you were down for that.

I'm a sex/love/procreation/pleasure god. Not hyperbole.

[info]libertybecket
2022-01-03 03:59 pm UTC (link)
You're going to have to explain how that works. I'm sorry. I'm new here. I'm from a colony world that has been in contact with literally one other planet and all the news that planet wanted to share with us was about a war that was probably over by the time we heard about it. That kind of distance.

The first generation of our colonists were from Earth and I know some of them believed in gods but the gods weren't people that you could meet, more metaphysical. They didn't talk about it much anyway, it was kind of private.

But you could help me have a child? A human child that would come from my body, not some genelab?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]aphrodiseum
2022-01-03 04:14 pm UTC (link)
Saying that it is magic/miracle is probably more easy to understand than actually going into it. My will makes things happen is the simplest way I can put it.

Gods are shaped by how we're perceived, and I'm generally thought of as a very physical god given my domains. Hard to be thought of as sexy and graceful without a physical form, you get it.

I absolutely could. Like I said, I could get you pregnant or help you get pregnant if you wanted to do it your own way.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]libertybecket
2022-01-03 08:30 pm UTC (link)
I don't really know what those are, either. A miracle is a good thing, I know that. Mikhail said it was a miracle all the crops survived the storm back in year thirteen. I don't really understand, but you're not human, so maybe it's me expecting things to make sense from a human perspective that's wrong. I do see that...someone can have a very attractive mind, but the physical form needs to be right too. Got it.

Then let's do it. I might have found someone. How does your part work? You'd will me to get pregnant, first time, and it'd happen?

Cultural stuff really, but you'll probably learn a lot of that while you're here so don't worry.

I can bless you now which will throw you into ovulation, if you're not already. Then, provided he's a relatively normal human, let me know within five days after you've slept together and I can kinda 'guide' things along.

Culture, right. I'll probably pick it up. I was the first baby born on Rica, and I know in a lot of ways I was an experiment. They deliberately didn't tell me much about Earth culture because they didn't want Rica to repeat Earth's mistakes. I understand why, but it was irritating sometimes. When everyone else knows things that you don't, and they make annoyed signs at each other when anyone accidentally makes a cultural reference.

Thank you. That sounds perfect. If it works, I'll try to find some way to repay you, someday.

When he is back to his normal age, Miguel may be a good person to speak to. Not as a donor, but he would be able to suggest alternative methods. The overnights may be unnecessary these days. I know it is most unorthodox.

When he's back to It's not at all unusual on my planet. There's an alternative, sure, but the women who go for that are the ones who really aren't interested in men, and you still need a donor anyway.

Is Miguel doing telomere research or something? Running a genelab and testing on himself? I wouldn't really want to have a baby mixed up in that.

You would still need a donor, yes.

I'm unsure what any of that is. He is a geneticist, but currently a child version of himself. It has happened before.

Hopefully it won't come to that. Unless there's something wrong with me and all the men on the station think I'm hideous. I've never met a man my age before.

That definitely sounds like it's connected to telomere research, but...way beyond my level of knowledge. Futuristic stuff. I hope he manages to fix it.

You are perfectly tolerable, I am sure. I was thinking more of your own comfort, than of theirs.

I should clarify, he didn't make himself a child. It is a strange quirk of the station. It has happened to me before, as well as switching gender, and switching bodies with another station resident. It will revert to 'normal' again in time.

If I wasn't comfortable with it, I would hardly be asking. Maybe it's not ideal, but thinking I can sit around and hope I'll fall in love and take contract and build a nice homestead with a field out back and then think about children is really naive and impractical. Especially as being on this station seems temporary. This is my best option.

I'm not trying to be rude, but what you're saying sounds scientifically impossible.

Thank you! I understand now. If this had happened when I was younger, the alternative might have been better, but I think I'm making the right decision here.

You were turned into a child? What was it like? Did you remember everything, despite the physical difference?

It is important that you are aware of all the options available to you, so that you might make an informed decision. I am glad that have confidence in your choices.

I remembered nothing. I'm only aware of it because others have informed me, and I was able to look back on the network and see my postings.

I'm over 20, human. I already have four children to three different women. None of them are here on the station, but it does suggest I'm perfectly capable.

For full disclosure, the only issue I can think of is that I do have bipolar disorder. I hadn't heard of it before coming to the station, but I can share some information about it if you haven't heard of it either. My minimal "research" tells me no single gene is responsible for bipolar disorder. Instead, a number of genetic and environmental factors are thought to act as triggers. Worth chatting to the medical staff about if we decide to proceed.

You sound perfect. If you're willing, and we do this, and I don't go back home right away, you don't have to be any more involved than you want to. And if you're not sure about the idea right now, we can talk it over and you can ask me whatever you want.

I didn't know it by that name, but I looked in the phone databanks, and I think you must be from an earlier time than I am. I'd just have to be careful about epigenetic triggers, I think, and I know there are a couple of specialists on Rica who can tell me what the best environment would be.

Well damn, we're at perfect already Sure. I worked away a lot, so I'm used to having limited input and sporadic contact.

Alright, I think it's worth having a talk about it. I'm not really seeing a downside as long as you're not crazy

Sure. I have siblings who I think are fine, and the kids seemed alright so far. I was a war correspondent, so the doc reckons it was exacerbated by combat stress. Even at that, it's fairly manageable once you know what you're dealing with.

Great! Let's meet in a few days. Does this place have wine? I feel like this is a conversation to have over a glass of wine.

That must have been tough, seeing all that. I think most people would be affected by it. But that's one thing we almost definitely won't have to worry about. The colony is small and isolated and really intent on not getting mixed up in any wars.
