I never guessed this is what it'd look like.

Or that there'd be cell phones...

I don't know. I wish I did.

But I have only just arrived here myself.

But it seems...that we cannot change being here? So we should try to make of it what we can. What's your name? I'm Briseis, daughter of Brisis. And it seems we have both been pulled out of time.

Peter.

I'm from 2011. I can deal with a couple of years.

Oh, that's not so very different. But it seems like your world is very different from this one? Mine is too. I arrived here from the Greek Encampment, before the walls of Troy. You probably know nothing of it, but it was a terrible battle, and many men have died horrible deaths. And I, perhaps, was the cause of many of them, although I had no wish to be.

It is nice to meet you, Mr. Peter, sir.

You come from the Battle of Troy?

Yes. Achilles has been slain. I was cleaning his body when I was brought here. I was to be auctioned off like the rest of his property.

I know what it is like, Mr. Peter, to be frightened of the future, and to have no idea how to fix it. I did not wish to belong to another man, but that was not my place to choose. I was a princess once, and I look back fondly on those days. But we must look forward, yes? The past is gone. Unless...if I read correctly, you can change the past? It is a great gift, although a treacherous one. Of course, gifts from the gods are often a double-edged sword.

All I could do was try. It's not up to me any more.

Trying is all one can ever do, isn't it? And it is so hard when it isn't enough. But it takes such bravery to try, especially when things are as hard as they have seemed for you.

I was never brave enough to try to escape Achilles and change my future. I envy your strength, Mr. Peter, sir.

Perhaps coming here, away from the misery you have left behind, is a reward of sorts?

Perhaps.

Maybe I don't deserve a reward.

Why do you say that? From what I understand from your words, things have been very hard for you, but you have been brave and good.

Whatever the truth, Mr. Peter, sir, you deserve rest, and peace. Everyone deserves that, especially those who have had difficult lives. And if this place thinks that I deserve such things, I am sure that you do.

Are you hungry, sir?

Hungry? Why?

I have been cooking this morning, because I do not know what else to do. I know so little about this world and it has been frightening, arriving here. I have far more than I can eat. Perhaps you would like some? I can bring you a plate if you wish. I would not like to waste it, especially if you are hungry.

It will make you feel better, you'll see, having warm food in your stomach.

What room are you in, do you know?

I'm in one of the downstairs kitchens.

Go down the stairs and turn left?

I'll make you a plate.

Go for it. =) Peter won't want to talk much, though. He will be starving though.

Are you kidding me? You just get away from being a slave to men and your first independent action is to offer to give a strange man food?

Is there something wrong with being kind?

He's confused and likely very hungry, and he needs someone to look after him.

Then send him to one of the cafes, hell take him to Mitchell's and let him get stinking drunk, but taking him into your flat and feeding him? Why not offer him a sympathy fuck while you're at it?

I'm sorry?!

I did not know that caring for a man, making sure he had food to eat, was the same as propositioning him.
