What an interesting place this is, like nothing else I've ever encountered.

Thank you. While I'm not un-used to being trapped in... different ways, I have to say this place is entirely unique and is presenting much more of a challenge.

How rude of me not to introduce myself; my name is Damien.

A number of us were in a similar situation on an island not so long ago, so I suppose I can understand that. You do get used to the whole space thing. Sort of, sometimes I walk past a window and still do a double take.

Nice to meet you, Damien. I'm Robert, most people call me Bobby but I'll answer to either, or any diminution of it really.

Yes, yes, space is infinite. Dark, unknown, all-encompassing and beautiful because of its emptiness. Fragile as well. I think I'll like looking at it every day.

But which do you prefer?

That's quite a complex and beautiful way to think of it. It's certainly never a dull view.

Oh, I don't mind. Bobby, I guess.

Infinitely inspiring too, don't you agree? You could lose your mind staring into the galaxies you'll never see up close, wondering what lives there, whether they have original thoughts and ideas.

Then I'll call you Bobby, if you don't mind. It's a pleasure.

Aye, I've found it to be pretty inspirational, now you mention it. Sounds like you're quite the deep thinker - are you a writer, a poet?

Don't mind at all. The pleasure is mine, Damien.

Me? No, no, I'm not of any skill or talent really. I simply like to encourage others to pursue their best selves and not waste their own passions.

I hope to see you around some time so we can look out at the stars together.

Well, that's very noble of you. I can see that you'd be good at it, though.

I hope so you. That does sound a little intense, so let me just say that I do have a fiancé, but assuming we're talking just stars, then excellent.

I would like to think and hope so, yes. It can backfire on me though, when people forget who helped them achieve their success. At least they're happy.

My apologies, I do sometimes forget that I'm talking to humans, with notions of certain intent. The stars are simply all I have an interest in.

Aye, I suppose people do have a habit of doing that.

You're not human? I'm not sure why I'm surprised anymore Okay, in that case, platonic stargazing I can do.

Unfortunately so. Perhaps one day someone will prove me wrong.

I'm not, no. It seems to be an issue for a person or two with whom I have spoken. It's been exhausting attempting to justify my existence.

An issue? Around here?! Bit hypocritical.

I hope I've simply gotten off on the wrong foot with them. The majority have been kind, considerate, and very open. In my experience, a rotten fruit can spoil the bunch though. There's nothing I can do to change that.

You're definitely not the only non-human round here, so I don't know why it would be a problem. Bit bloody racist, isn't it?

Rather sweeping, but I get your point.

Depends on your definition of the word, doesn't it? I've grown to let go of the prejudice in other people's eyes. I don't believe in talking to change someone's opinion; actions speak louder.

I know what you mean. I'm no stranger to those looks, and I'm disappointed that you've experienced that here. Talking never changes it anyway.

People have a tendency towards fear of the new, don't they? No matter, at least there has been a few kind souls here for me.

Yes - fear of the new, the unknown, things they can't understand, or don't want to understand. And fear makes them lash out. I'm glad you've found some kindness, too. Just give me a shout whenever you want to do some stargazing.

I most certainly will. It's nice to have found a compatible mind.
