Short answer to all 4: Magic. Magic is all over this place and whatever is behind it sometimes has a sick sense of humor if it's intelligent. There's been debates about that.

1) On the island there was this building of doors to other worlds and dimensions, they'd open at random and be open for a set amount of time. If it came with us to the station nobody has said anything about it yet, I'd have to ask my brother's kiss who came back from the future.

2) It was a water world, no land that we knew about. There was a civilization of merfolk living there.

3) You went through the door and presto change you were something different. I was a mermaid, someone else was a ray.

4) Technically I don't think I ever stop being a mermaid, just sometimes I can change my tail to legs like I was born with. It doesn't happen that often anymore but I've been able to do it the past few weeks.

	1) Probably 2) It was really cool. 3) If you needed it yeah, more often than not it was places on earth or worlds where it was OK to be human. 4) If it doesn't mess with you I wouldn't worry about it too much. It messes with my twin brother a lot, I'm getting a betting pool going about what'll happen next or when. (Reply to this) (Parent)
