I found an old boat I'm working on restoring so if you come across it docked out near the beach it's probably occupied. Once I get it up proper I could probably do some fishing if anyone wants some?

If you want, anything you don't eat, you can put in the supermarket. People will come and get them.

There might be a few things further down the line that need a few more hands, right now it's just a whole lot of cleaning and stripping and repairing torn canvas.

I did see that, almost took it over too, but it looked like someone had been taking too good care of it for it to be abandoned.

I mean, people still do, the water is pretty cold but it's bearable for a few weeks in summer. I'm just not much the type either way.

I've been doing this far too long to miss that talk around, sorry. Are you like, actual fins and a tail or just breathe under water?

It doesn't get super cold around here but from about Thanksgiving to Valentine's day it's too cold for most people to go swimming outside. To each their own I guess.

Doing what? We get people from lots of different times and places here on the island.

Fins and tail. Though some of us have magic trinkets or the island lets get legs and walk on land anyw

I used to own a restaurant/bar right out by the docks so it was useful then. What do you mean about doors?

We called them troubles, but yeah. I've noticed.

There was a family that, when the men hit puberty, and the troubles were active, they could only breathe under water

Oh neat. We have a pub here.

There's a building full of doors here in the city. Each one opens to somewhere different, most of the time someplace on earth, but sometimes other worlds. They open randomly for random amounts of time, it could be day, or it could be months.

Troubles? Most things aren't trouble here, but sometimes bad things happen.

Not being able to breathe air? That would suck, we can do both.

That's...different.

That's what we called them, though some people used afflictions. Some of them weren't bad but most weren't great, a lot of people who had them couldn't always control them and a lot of them were pretty powerful and could hurt other people.

Yeah, it was rough for a lot of them, especially since it meant leaving all the women in the family behind.
