This seems peculiar sort of holiday. Some people pleased about it, others downright miserable and a lot of innuendo What is purpose? Or if there is no purpose, then reason? Religion? Tradition? There are many more holiday being observed here than I know of.

It's a holiday where people show others how much they love them. Usually a couples holiday. That's why some people are happy about it and some aren't. When you're lonely on Valentine's Day, seeing lots of happy couples can be very sad.

I see. Does it have to be in the romantic way? It is perhaps worse here, with disappearing and those left behind.

It doesn't have to be strictly romantic, no. Sometimes children give Valentine's cards to their parents. Or friends give them to each other. It's just a special day to show affection. I personally think it's silly because you shouldn't need a special holiday to show that you love someone.

True. It seems forced if you have to be told when to say it.

I think the date has some connection to a Saint Valentine, but I'm not really sure.

Isabel's explained it well, it's about love. When I was a kid, it was about any kind of love - friends, family, even the love of your fellow humans. I used to give every kid in my class a card. But as an adult, it starts to be more about romantic love. I'm not sure why that is either.

I see. Is that a Christian saint?

Maybe we just think more on a certain type of love as an adult and forget. But I see some mention their children.

Yes.

I've noticed that. They are lucky kids to have good parents.

I had a friend who said it was all about selling stuff. Crappy heart-shaped shit.

Which holidays do you know?

That makes depressing sense.

I know Christmas, new year, Easter... I did not know of Halloween, or this one. We have many very patriotic holidays, they mostly annoy me with the propaganda and hero worship.
