Maria has been checked out by a specialist and all the test results are in. She has a condition known as Waardenburg Syndrome type II. He said we should expect her to be heterochromatic by the time her eyes are done changing. It's a genetic chromosomal mutation. Fortunately, Type II is the easiest one to manage as it only causes the deafness and the heterochromia. Unfortunately it means that hearing aids won't help her at all and she's not a viable candidate for a cochlear implant.

We should be home tomorrow afternoon.

[Private to Clint]

It's a recessive genetic chromosomal mutation. The fact that it's recessive means we're both carriers. And it's a rare genetic mutation that neither of us could have predicted. So this isn't anybody's fault. still blame myself.

Part of me wants to fix it but a bigger part of me feels absolutely horrible for wanting to fix it.

I know. I know she's not...broken. But I'd still take it from her if given the chance.

It-none of it will matter for a little while but we'll have to make some adjustments at the house.

Just make a list and I'll make sure they happen.

Fire alarms and doorbells will need to be adapted to flash instead of make noise, we'll need to make sure text is on the TVs and stuff, probably get some kind of vibrating alarm once she needs alarms. we should put carpets in wherever we can so she doesn't wake up from people walking around. Picture labels before she can read maybe? we'll have to remember to go get her when it's time for food or going out instead of calling like we do with Bucky. She'll need a cell phone just about as soon as she can read. One of us will probably have to homeschool her even when the school gets running.

The carpet is the hardest part of that and it's pretty easy. Friday already does the captioning on anything shown on TV, I just have it turned off for the time being so that's done. The fire alarm already flashes as well as making noise and I can set something up with Friday regarding the doorbell.
