That's probably the only guaranteed thing around here, is that the new arrivals will be very confused.

I go by Steven. Not that I get confused for the other versions.

Steven. I will try my best to remember that. Are you...teenage, then?

No. I'm nearly 28.

I'm sorry that probably came off as insulting. It's just with the...child I wondered if maybe

Nevermind, haha. Apparently I am going to put my foot in my mouth innumerable times here.

It's not insulting. I'm a bit on the small size so it's understandable. The child is actually my adopted son. So I'm technically raising myself.

That definitely brings to mind the old adage of becoming one's parents but in a very literal sense.

So are you from before? If that's not a rude thing to ask.

Yes, from just before. I was brought here the day before the procedure that made me him.

He's a good man. I mean, the one I know, at least. That must make you one, too.

I like to think so.

Are you happy to be here, then? Having never undergone the procedure or done any of it? If you know what you do in the future, I mean.

There are times when I wish that I were him. But my scoliosis is fixed, my arrhythmia is gone, my asthma and allergies are under control, and I have my son. So things are good.

I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. I know this doesn't make any sense and might come off as weird from someone that you don't know but I am glad that you are happy.

It's not weird. I appreciate it. I would recommend going to the diner if you need something to eat. Isabel is a wonder in the kitchen and she might know who you are.

She can make pretty much anything you ask. Even if it's not on the menu.

Some people here haven't even heard of the country that I am from so I'm not sure it is fair to expect any Sokovian cuisine. I will learn to make do, haha.

You can always ask. If she doesn't know how to make it right away, she'll definitely learn. She learned how to make something that I used to get from a little shop in Brooklyn just because I said I missed it.

Maybe once I get settled I can get back into cooking. Just to do...something.

There's always something to do around here. If you do like cooking maybe you could help out at the diner.
