[Message to Miguel and Dr Cuddy]

Mr O'Hara, Dr Cuddy,

An acquaintance of mine here informed me about the tiny organisms called Germs, which sully the air and one's hands, or even blood, and can cause certain diseases.

He said that one of you might be kind enough to help me to observe these Germs for myself. In Pretannica we knew the value of cleanliness, but this is a new theory to me.

Sincerely,

Caspar Leyton

Mr. Leyton.

I can show you some common germs. Have you had the opportunity to use a microscope before?

I can also share with you the best ways to prevent infection and disease from germs.

Dr. Cuddy.

Dr Cuddy,

I know what a microscope is, but I have never used one for myself, no, and I do not think they could be used for this purpose. Else it would have been reported on, no doubt. The microscopes may be different here.

Thank you. If these methods work, and I can bring them back with me, it may make some difference.

Mr. Leyton

The microscopes here are most likely much more powerful than in your time. May I ask what year you are from?

It did in my world. Once germs were understood, medicinal practices and public health were fundamentally changed for the better. In addition to preventing illness, it led to many new treatments for diseases.

Dr Cuddy,

It was the year 1840 that I came here from. I arrived from Calleva, in Pretannica, which I have come to understand that many here know by the name of Britain, although there are many differences in the timeline.

I have no expertise in any of these matters, but I know what it is to suffer with poor health, and if I can take some small steps to improve things, I will.

Mr. Leyton.

I'm from 2011, from a country called the United States of America. Though it may have had a different name in your world. Medical technology has come a long way. I'll show you as much of it as I can.

That's good to hear. I'm always happy when someone is willing to take care of their health.

Dr. Cuddy.

Dr Cuddy,

I think that I know the place. We call it Appalachia, although that is a comparatively recent development and it was the Pretannic Colonies of Ameryk until after the second war. It must be similar to your United States of America. The similarities are sometimes striking, but with enough differences to unsettle.

But we are here for medicine and not history! I shan't bore you with it. When would you care to meet?

Hi, sorry, I missed this earlier, I was busy. I can show you germs, that's not a problem. What year are you from?

Thank you, I appreciate that very much. 1840, but possibly not the 1840 you know, as I've yet to find another person from my timeline.

I'll work out the tech level from my timeline for around then, and we can go from there. Do you know where my classroom is?

[directions to it anyway, starting in the food court]

I'm busy up until Friday, possibly Saturday depending on if things run over. So, any time after Saturday is fine unless I'm teaching.
