((Good luck Miss Mel *hugs*Feel better))
WHO: Draco Malfoy & Astoria Greengrass
WHERE: Greengrass Estate
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon/early evening
RATING: TBD
STATUS: Incomplete

I thought about you for a long time
Can't seem to get you off my mind
I can't understand why we're living life this

The owl had come and gone. When nothing came back, Astoria went about her day unsure if she'd hear from him that day or not. And, like months ago, going on about her day meant time spent in the kitchen. Today, she was avoiding her father and the terms of her forced marriage by pounding on tart shell dough. This was the fourth batch she'd ruined in the last hour, but it helped to get her aggression out. With a sigh, she gave up on the overworked dough and began to pull everything out and measure out everything in an attempt to start anew.

Draco and their situation were never far from her mind. She needed to talk to him. To let him know that she had her own stipulations before she would agree to anything. Even then, she needed him to understand just what a horrible idea this marriage was going to be. His so-called 'friends' were not going to be pleased and in the end, she was the one who would end up suffering. Didn't he understand that?

Astoria muttered under her breath as her thoughts kept returning to Draco. In the process she ended up dropping the sifter full of flour. It wouldn't have been a problem, except when it hit the counter there was a massive cloud of white flew up and covered her from her shoulders on up in flour. Astoria threw her hands up in frustration and stalked out of the kitchen as she headed for her room to shower and change her clothes.

Little did she realize, that at the same time all of this was going on, the object of her ire was being let in through the front door. She let out a sound that sounded like a strangled squeak and ducked back into the kitchen to do her best to rid herself of the ghastly mess she wore. When she stepped back into the hall, she looked as presentable as she was going to even if she still had flour on her brow and stuck in her curls. Nothing was worse than the top of her dress was faded and gray under the flour that had settled in behind her apron.

There was nothing left to be done, as her wand had been left up in her room, Astoria stepped back out into the hall and went to meet Draco in the foyer. "You could have owled before you showed up. I would have made sure I wasn't... busy with something else." She said with a frown.

He sighed again. He didn't know how many more times he needed to go over this with her, to tell her why he'd done what he did, but it seemed at least once more. Once more, he told himself, and that would be done.

"I told you, I was overwhelmed. I never expected to fall in love so fast, and then to come back and find out that I wasn't going to be able to be with you, all I could think of was you. Then, when it was over with Lily and I had time to thing about everything it just kind of freaked me out. Everything had happened so fast. I never meant to hurt you, and it wasn't that you weren't enough, because you are and I can promise, take an unbreakable vow if I have to, that there will never be anyone else in our marriage for me but you."

Astoria sighed and dabbed at her eyes again, before she pushed herself up to her feet and slipped back into her shoes. The tears were still there, the dull ache present in her chest but she was giving up. She knew there was no stopping what would happen and maybe that is what terrified her. She had no control over anything in her life now. At least, she'd be able to return home and hide herself away for the next couple of months if she wanted to.

"You are not the only one who was overwhelmed, Draco." She crossed her arms and leaned against the door. "Just a few weeks ago, I would have agreed to the unbreakable vow, but I don't want to do anything like that. It would be wrong and force you into something you don't want. I think there's enough of that going on already."

He set his jaw. She didn't know what was good for her, but that was to be expected. She was young, naive and didn't know what her aunt was asking of her, but he knew, and thankfully, so did her father.

"Is that all you wanted?" he asked, shoving his hands into his pockets to remind himself that she wouldn't welcome his touch.

"To talk to you? TO finally say everything that I have not been able to? Yes. But, since you are here, is there anything you would like to say? Or have you and our parents satisfied with your arrangements?" The way he asked the question had stung, causing her to lash out in return. Merlin she was such an emotional wreck, she hated it.

"I've already said everything, Astoria. I can't help it if it's not what you want to hear," he said. Merlin, he wished that none of this had happened, that he'd never met her. Then, he wouldn't hurt seeing her cry, and he wouldn't feel the sting of her bitterness.

"That is where you are wrong. It is what I want to hear, just not sure if I can believe you." She frowned and moved away from the door, giving him a chance to leave should he wish to. "Whether it should or not, it feels like a betrayal, Draco. It is going to take me time to get passed that."

Feeling like it would be a mistake to leave until she asked him to, he stayed put, turning back to the window, because it was easier than seeing her look so miserable at the idea of marrying him.

"You've got six months to get used to the idea," he said. Their parents had agreed that no official announcement would be made until after Daphne and Michael's wedding, so she had plenty of time to reconcile herself to the inevitable.

"I know how long I have." She snapped, glaring at Draco's back. She had originally asked her father for a year, since her and Tracey were planning Daphne's wedding, she figured that would take up at least six months out of the year, and then with her little business adventure, she could focus on that. At the same time, she hoped Draco would grow bored and move on. Her father gave her the six months. After that, they were supposed make an announcement about the wedding. Whenever Draco and her chose to get married after that, that would be where the added time came from.

As she continued to glare at him, Astoria's shoulders slumped and she turned her gaze to the side to look out the window over his shoulder instead. "All I wanted was to start over, Draco. Take our time and see if down the line we were actually meant for each other. That was why I gave you your ring back."

Was she going to keep forcing him into having the same conversation over and over again? It felt like they'd already had this one, as well. He sighed and leaned his head against the glass, his head starting to hurt.

"You're the one that can decide how this relationship turns out, Astoria," he said quietly. "It can be difficult, or it can go easily. I've done what I can to keep you from harms way, I'll do everything I can to make sure you're comfortable and happy, but ultimately, if you're determined to be miserable, I can't do anything to change your mind."

Astoria nodded, despite the fact he couldn't see her do so. "You are right. I will do my best to make sure we are not entirely too miserable together."

"I still need to get myself a roommate, but Daddy is letting me move home this weekend. There are two paths we can take from this day forward.. One, we avoid each other for another six months until we make this official and public... or... Two, how about dinner? If you would rather the world not see us together and put two and two together, I can make something to eat. And.. I promise I won't end up looking like I do now."

He wanted to give her enough time to get used to the idea of being his wife, but at the same time he enjoyed spending time with her, when she wasn't driving him crazy with circular conversations that didn't seem to go anywhere, so he smiled, turning back to face her.

"Dinner would be lovely, Astoria," he said. "If you can stand to be in the same room with me."

Astoria managed an awkward sort of smile that matched the silence that lasted far too long, and lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "There is only one way to figure out if I can or not. That is to give it a shot." As truthful as her statement was, Astoria had meant it as a joke.

Draco didn't find the silence uncomfortable. He was enjoying it, actually, because it meant they weren't fighting, or going over the same things over again. She really was remarkably beautiful.

"I'll look forward to your invitation, then," he said moving close, his lips curling ever so slightly.

"If not this weekend... Then the next." She said, as she watched Draco start to close the distance between them. "Does this mean you would rather stay in?"

"You're cooking, aren't you? I thought that was the point. If you'd rather I take you out instead, that can be arranged, though I suppose being seen together in public right now would violate the terms of our contract," he said, stopping in front of her.

"No, I am. I just wanted to make sure that that was what you wanted." Astoria looked up at Draco as he came to a stop before her. Draco was close enough that Astoriams body began to react. Her heart thudded in anticipation and she found hard to think. At that moment all she want was for him to kiss her. Despite the wayward course her thoughts were on, Astoria was able to sound calm as she spoke again. "Is there anything in particular you would like me to make?"

He felt like he needed to tell her again that the only thing he wanted was her, but it was clear that she wasn't accepting of that, so he decided to leave it, unwilling to argue with her again right now. He cupped her cheek, the dragged his thumb over her bottom lip.

"As long as you've made it, I'm sure it will be - delicious," he whispered.

As if on its own volition, Astoria's hand rose to rest against Draco's as she pressed her cheek into the palm of his hand. The tip of her tongue snaked out to shadow the movement his thumb had just made against her bottom lip.

The way Draco's whispered words fanned across her face had Astoria's cheeks coloring as she stepped forward. She knew she should have stepped away from him. She knew that she was crossing over into dangerous territory, but Astoria's couldn't help it as she closed what small distance was between them and took the initiative. Pressing her lips to his, Astoria kissed Draco.
