Thirty days. It had only been a month but it had felt like longer, a lifetime even since she had seen more than the four walls of her prison. Yet it was all she could think of. Think of the cold dampness of the floor, the way the Cruciatus Curse lingered in the throbbing of your bones and every time she closed her eyes she could still hear Bellatrix laughing in delight at her pain. Shifting Fleur rolled onto her side a bit only to be met with a stabbing pain in her side that made her yelp and the healers aid to remind her for the millionth time to lay still and try to get some sleep.
For the millionth time she asked after Bill and for the millionth time they assured her they had sent for him and that was all that they could do. Maybe she would like help cleaning up and that would make her feel better? And because it took too much energy to argue Fleur let them do it. Let them wash the dirt and blood from her body and brush her hair. Honestly it didn't make her feel better but worse. The bruises that blossomed on her skin seemed more pronounced without the dirt to less their shades of purple. At least Bill wouldn't have to see her looking how she had when she came in.
The healers assistants were nice; asking here questions about her plans for her baby when they wanted to ask her about what had happened to her. Fleur could hear them whisper from the hallway and it only made their questions all the more irritating. So she ignored them and allowed herself to drift off to sleep. Exhausted didn't begin to cover how tired she was and Fleur figured she would just rest, sleep even, until Bill got there knowing she would hear his footsteps in the hall. Half asleep or not she had grown accustomed to listening for footsteps in the hall.
So she waited.
