who: merlin & morgana
what: bowling
when: wednesday afternoon
where: morgana's room & bowling ally

Merlin wasn't sure how keen he was on the idea of bowling. He rather liked it on the Wii game. However, he recalled something about wearing other people's shoes, and that the ball was much heavier then the little controller his game required. If that wasn't enough, the fact that Morgana wanted to go out with him, just the two of them, was a little suspect. Not that he didn't think of her as a friend. He cared for her, of course, and in a large group as with the laser tag it was perfectly normal for them to hang out. He'd never really just never really spent time with her exclusively that didn't imply something bad was happening in the background. It would be nice, he thought. Aside from the borrowed shoes, and ten pound balls.

He laced up the worn shoes he'd bought the other day at something called a thrift shop. Merlin rather liked the place, everything was fairly cheap as opposed to the stores in the hall -- or was it mall? Whatever. He'd gotten a nice pair of blue converse shoes, and a t-shirt that had unicorns on it. (He would have to show Arthur some time) He liked the shirt enough, but it seemed to get a lot of odd reactions. People would pass him chanting 'chaaarrliee..' and even weirder things like 'shun the nonbeliever, shuuuun.' At first he thought it was something wrong with him, that the odd younger town folk mistook him for this exiled man named charlie, but soon realized it was only when he wore the shirt.

Treading down the hall, a glance at Arthur's room, then Gwen's as he passed. Arthur was taken care of so far as food was considered, but he'd peek in later regardless just to be sure he didn't need anything. For Gwen he'd been mixing a medicine to help her sleep with hot chocolate, and leaving it in her room at night to hopefully help with the nightmares. Eventually he stopped and knocked on Morgana's door, sparing a glance towards Lancelot's door as well.

Morgana had been determined to spend some quality time with Merlin. Something not at all involving trouble, Camelot, or Arthur and Gwen and Lancelot. Not that she didn't love two of those three people, dearly, and rather liked the third. Not that she didn't think of Camelot as home. And certainly not that Morgana didn't enjoy certain kinds of trouble, especially the type that exasperated her pseudo-brother figure. It was simply that, in this place, all of those involved deception, lies, and her and Merlin running around fixing things. All of which was necessary but also all of which was very tiring, and she knew distressed the young sorcerer. Furthermore, Morgana had long ago made Merlin her business. From the moment he'd helped saved Gwen and she'd only reaffirmed that, more so, in this place upon their first meeting in this place.

She wanted to know Merlin beyond the fact she could count on him. After all, it was her business to do so, and Morgana always took good care of her business, any means necessary. And well, because she'd been determined to do so, Merlin had no choice in the matter but to come to the outing. He knew it too. And she liked that. Gwen would have worried and Arthur would have argued, and both of that she loved (well, not the second) mostly because of who it all came from. Lancelot would have ... who knew. But Merlin agreed, because Merlin was smart. He was less of a pushover than she'd originally thought. He didn't automatically agree with her but for other things, well, he tended to know what was good for him. And his short term health. Long term as well for that matter.

She would have to make it up to him. Poor boy. His good behavior deserved it. He'd been helping her with Arthur and Gwen, she'd been so focused on Arthur and Gwen. She'd forgotten that the dear boy was in love with Gwen. He'd been such a wonderful sport about it. She'd set him out, set him dating. It'd be good for him. Good that he had someone who cared for him rather than constantly running around and taking care of the four of them. Not that they didn't care for him ... it was just different. Of course, Morgana would have to make sure that this girl-whoever she was-was good enough for Merlin in the first place. However, that was another matter.

Now was just for fun and getting to know you's.

Brushing her hair back and putting on a pair of black sneaker, Morgana heard a knock. With a small smile, she took her purse in one hand and took a bag that contained a surprise for Merlin in the other before walking to the door and answer. "Hello, Merlin." She said with her smile widening slightly. With a slightly perplexed mixed with amused expression, she took in his shirt. "Unicorns?" Her lips twitched. The words under it were interesting enough, more than likely something having to do with this time's culture, however, she wondered if he knew about the myth's surrounding unicorns. Other than the ones that could put curses on kingdoms.

So it was definitely an experience, seeing all his friends adapt to this place. Not that he didn't expect them too, after all, there was very little here in common with Camelot. Still, first he'd seen Arthur in new clothes. That came as less of a shock, in part because he'd cleaned up the prince's room on more then one occasion, and even left him a few changes of clothes when he'd first arrived. Arthur didn't look quite as strange as he'd expected. In fact, he looked quite good. Merlin preferred the t-shirts to his tunic and chainmail.

Gwen on the other hand had been a shock. With her form fitting and slightly more revealing clothes then what she'd worn back home -- well, it had caught him a bit off guard. Not to say she didn't look lovely. She did. Of course, he always thought Gwen was pretty, but the clothes were certainly different. They made you pay a bit more attention, and realize what a nice figure she had. Not that Merlin would notice, she was a friend is all, nothing more.

However, for some reason he really had issue with picturing Morgana in anything other then a lovely gown, and occasionally the bit of armor. Putting her in something as common, and rough as denim jeans just didn't settle right with him. So when she opened the door in casual clothes (much less embarrassing then his blue converse and unicorn shirt, and much more fashionable no doubt) he just sort of faltered for a moment. Of course, she looked beautiful too, just as Gwen had. It just was -- odd. He suddenly felt rather self conscious about his choice in clothes as well when she questioned his choice in shirts.

"Yes, I -- I liked it." He shrugged, and looked down at the graphic on his tee. Merlin figured Arthur might get a laugh out of it too, and the top was cheap, which always helped. Still, Morgana was smiling so he obviously hadn't screwed up too badly.

"You look great. No unicorns..." Merlin smiled and ran a hand awkwardly through his hair. He wasn't exactly sure how to act around her. They didn't have the same sort of relationship as Merlin did with Arthur, Gwen, or Lancelot. There was definite trust between them, common ground where magic and their friends were involved, and naturally friendly enough. Still, he'd never gotten the chance to develop the same casual familiarity as he had with the others. So Merlin was going to act more then a little awkward, at least to begin with around her.

"I'm not judging it, Merlin." She said. His awkwardness was obvious and she would have none of that. Yet also, she wanted to put him as at ease as possible. Therefore, her tone, while firm, also came out to be gentle. The corner of her lips lifted further upward. In amusement, not mocking. She was willing to bet that he didn't know about unicorns and innocence. There were a lot of stories about those, they weren't at all difficult to find when looking up ones on Camelot; nevertheless, she was sure Merlin had some how missed them. Morgana wasn't about to tell him. She didn't want to embarrass him or make him feel even more awkward in her presence. "I like it." And she did. "The color especially is very nice."

"Thank you." She replied, warmly. Unlike how he had, there was no looking down at what she was wearing. Morgana knew she looked good, but it was still nice to be told as much. "If I'd know that today's outing required clothing with mystical creatures," She continued after a pause, her brow arched and a small smirk on her lips. "I would have worn my griffin sneakers." Her tone was droll, but it carried subtle teasing with it.

Taking pity on him, she said, "Here." Thrusting the bag at him. In them were brand new bowling shoes made to fit. His were in a box on top of hers. There was no way she was wearing other people's shoes. She'd had them made some time ago. Back when she'd first decided that they would make bowling a group affair. "The first box is for you."

Merlin smiled a little more easily, and relaxed as she complimented the top and it's color. He still felt goofy, but that was fine. It was probably for the best that she didn't bring up the myths about unicorns and innocence because really -- then he'd have to got change, and maybe die a little of embarrassment. Those particular stories had been over looked when he was reading. They'd already done the unicorn thing, he didn't think there was any reason to read about it again.

He chuckled a bit, but the bag thrust into his chest managed to keep him from saying anything stupid. Peeking into the top box he made an odd face. They were -- Ugly. Were they for him? Why did Morgana feel the need to buy him a pair of strange leather shoes? His own were a little worn, but hardly that bad.

"Thank you...What are they for?" He didn't want to seem ungrateful. She had gotten something for him, and he would go so far as to actually wear them in public if she asked. Still, he wondered why she'd gotten him not one, but it seemed like two pairs of shoes.

Morgana barely managed to suppress a smile at the look that crossed over his features. The shoes truly were ugly. When he looked back up at her, she easily managed to compose her features. The look she gave him clearly asked, 'What's the matter, Merlin, don't you like them?'.

She smirked at his question. "Clearly I'm the only one capable of proper research." Reaching into the bag she lifted out the box before gently pressing his box against his chest. She had the strangest feeling that he thought both wee for him, given the fact that he didn't know what kind of shoes they were. As she did that, she carefully removed the bag from his grasp. "They're bowling shoes, Merlin." She answered. "I felt that you wouldn't enjoy the experience as much in someone's elses shoes. That's why I bought you your own pair."

Merlin smiled awkwardly, and seemed to breath a little easier when she finally explained they were for the bowling thing so he didn't have to wear borrowed shoes. A little more comfortable with the rather ugly shoes now that he knew their purpose, Merlin held the box, and offered a thankful sort of look. He wondered if the awful style was a requirement for the game, but didn't bother himself with it too much. If everyone would be wearing them, so be it.

"Thank you." He said again, a little more sincere this time. Shifting the box to rest under his arm, he moved back a bit to start out of the apartment building. "Ready to go?"
