WHO: Noah Bennet and Parker
WHAT: Finally following through on a bet made a few months earlier.
WHEN: Mid-afternoon
WHERE: Barnes and Noble (to start with)
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Normally not one for crowds, or places where one was expected to act a specific way, Parker was currently oblivious to both the groups of people as well as the social expectations found within a bookstore. She was far too busy focusing on her task. A task which, while others might consider to be a bit odd given her surroundings, was quite important to her.

She was looking for a book.

Not just any book, though. No, she was looking for a specific book. And while a bookstore the size of Barnes and Noble would normally be the ideal place to find a specific book, in this particular situation it was actually a bit of a hindrance. After all the book she was searching for wasn't going to be listed in the computer and no employee would know where it was located.

You see, it was a book about, well, her. Or rather everything she'd done since the moment she'd arrived in Colligo. It had been stolen from the library by Noah when he'd arrived in the city and, while it had been blank to start with, had at some point begun to tell the tale of her adventures thus far within the city limits.

Really, though, none of that mattered all that much to the blond who was currently dashing across the main length of the bookstore with an ever-present stopwatch keeping time inside her head. She honestly didn't care if Noah knew what she'd done at Colligo and wasn't too worried about it falling into someone else's hands, either. No, the main reason she was looking for the book was because if she didn't find hers, before Noah found the one that she'd hidden that told of his tale in Colligo, she was going to have to pay for dinner. And while there was a lot of things that Parker was willing to do, spending her money on someone else's food was not one of them.

So it was with quite a victorious shout that she managed to locate her book - in the true crime nonfiction section, of course - and snatched it off the shelf. With a broad grin she hugged the tome to herself, pointedly ignored the people milling about who were staring oddly at her, and spun on her heel intent on finding Noah to brag about her accomplishment... only to find him standing there, his book already firmly in his grasp.

Which had, mere seconds before, been on the other side of the store.

Which meant that he'd won.

Which meant she was buying dinner.

With a soft gasp and a clearly affronted look that was only borderline joking, Parker announced quite matter-of-factly, "Not fair!"

It hadn't actually been difficult. The size of the store, though certainly daunting, wasn't actually an issue when Noah looked for his book. Instead of searching haphazardly, or thinking where a book about him would logically be hidden, he had taken a moment to consider on simple question. Where would Parker place a book about him? Because that was a horse of a different color. Logic rarely factored into Parker's decision making...or, she had a wholly different brand of logic from most people. So it made sense that her choice wouldn't make sense.

He knew Parker well enough to know that she wouldn't just place the book on a random shelf. No, it would be something that fit with her particular idea of logic. It hadn't taken long to realize that there was only one place his book could be, and he had made his way over to where the puzzle books were, unsurprised to find his book amid the countless sudoku books. Picking it up, he made his way over to the true crime nonfiction section. It took about seven seconds, which was just enough time to get there and watch Parker find her book.

"I'm sorry," he said, mostly teasing as he leaned back against the shelf with a smirk. "Next time I'll be sure to lose." He wasn't really surprised that he'd beat out Parker. She was a brilliant thief, but he knew people. The fact that it had been so close spoke more to her abilities than his.

"Shall we go then," he said, raising an eyebrow and jokingly offering his arm.

With a huff that was a combination of joking and actually annoyed that he'd managed to beat her, Parker stepped forward and slid her arm through his with a pout. Tucking her book under her other arm, she was completely oblivious to the curious stares from various onlookers and turned her gaze to Noah as they made their way toward the exit.

"How'd you do that?" she questioned after a minute. There was actual curiosity to be found but definitely still a ring of annoyance in her tone. She couldn't help it. Parker didn't lose often so, when she did, she wasn't quite sure how to handle it. And while she wasn't necessarily a sore loser as she was mostly exaggerating, she certainly didn't handle someone beating her with the poise and grace that others might.

Although she did have to admit, if only to herself, that if she were going to lose to anyone at least it had been Noah. He was pretty much awesome and just about everything she'd seen him do, so it wasn't as bad to have him beat her at something.

That didn't mean she was going to let it happen a second time, though.
