Buffy was a little nervous about telling Spike the possibility of possibly having a child. He hadn't picked up on it yet, and she wasn't even sure it was true. For all she knew, they would have this long talk and then she would find out that it really was paranoia on overdrive. She hadn't even considered it when he first became human. It didn't enter her mind for several days, and by then it was too late.

In truth, she wasn't completely opposed to the idea of being a mother. She wanted that, eventually. There would be a time when other slayers would take on duties and she could bow out gracefully and disappear into her own life. She had tried to do that after Spike had died. It wasn't the best time she ever had, but she did try for Dawn's sake. Dawn needed normal. Asaph had other plans, and here she was, although that wasn't the worst thing that could have happened either. She was fairly happy here, happy with the one person that she had sworn would never be able to get to her the way he did.

She poured some ice tea in a glass and walked over to the sofa, plopping down on it to wait for Spike to get home. She couldn't think of a way to start the conversation, but she had to laugh picturing Spike changing diapers. Now that just had to happen, and she was going to take pictures.

Spike had absolutely no idea what Buffy was on about and he was beginning to wonder if all of the crazy shit she'd seen over the last few years had finally gotten to her. After all, she had taken some pretty hard hits during her time as the Slayer, some of them from him, so it was absolutely possible that Buffy had a head injury that was finally causing her to go a little mad. Because honestly, what on earth could she be talking about? The very last thing Spike was thinking was that Buffy could be pregnant. He's never had to worry about accidently getting a girl pregnant, not even when he'd been human originally, so the fact that they had, had unprotected sex a few times during the two weeks he'd just been human didn't ring any warning bells for him.

During the remainder of his shift at the bar, all Spike could think about, however, was what Buffy could possibly mean, so he headed straight home once he was finished and didn't even wait till the door clicked shut before he was talking, "Alright, Slayer, what on Asaph's Not Exactly Earth have you been going on about all night?"

"So much for 'Honey, I'm home'." Buffy sat up when he walked in, leaning elbows on her knees. She had no clue what she was going to say. She didn't want to just blurt it out, especially when she wasn't really sure. "I thought you hurried home just to bring me a late dinner."

She frowned, taking a drink of the tea. It was going to be harder than she thought, and she was not sure how he would react at all. "This is going to be a really weird question, but did you ever want a normal life when you were a human, like with a wife and kids?" It didn't seem to be too direct. It could have been a lot worse, and she really didn't think he would put the puzzle together just yet.

Spike quirked a brow at her as he stopped in the living room, crossing his arms over his chest, "Slayer, I'm home. Happy now?" His tone was dripping with sarcasm, but that wasn't anything new for Spike and something Buffy would be used to by now, so he wasn't worried about her being offended or anything.

When she spoke again, Spike's brow furrowed and he stared at Buffy for a moment or two before answering, "If I hadn't been turned, it would have been expected of me," Spike still didn't understand why Buffy was asking this question, but at the same time there was the fact that back home Slayers didn't live long and not many, if any, got married and had kids and now in Colligo, Buffy had so many more opportunities that she wouldn't have back home.

Buffy rolled her eyes and put her arm over her head dramatically. "Now I can die happy," she teased, making a face at Spike. She wasn't offended in the slightest, and knew how to dish it straight back to him.

She walked up to him innocently enough. Standing on tiptoes, she gave him a small kiss. "Your parents would be thrilled now, if they were still around." She looked up at him to see if he was getting any of it. She knew how long he had been a vampire and he really didn't worry about the course of human physiology.

"How good is your hearing?" She asked, turning back for the sofa. She hadn't taken a test yet, but this could work. She laid down and motioned for him to come over. "No funny stuff either. Only if you're good."

"Not so sure about that," Spike didn't like to think about what his parents would think if they were still around, especially his mother, because things had just gotten so out of hand once he'd turned her. Spike had a short list of regrets and one of those things was turning his mother. She would have been much better off if he'd simply left after Dru had turned him; sure she would have still died, but at least he wouldn't have had to do it.

He watched her go over to the sofa, brows furrowed at her question, "Real bloody good," He still didn't understand what was going on, but he walked over to where Buffy was lying down, standing over her for a moment or two before lowering himself to his knees by the sofa, "Slayer, are you going to explain or continue speaking in bloody tongues?"

Buffy sighed, but she liked him better down here than towering over her. There really wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for her, and she knew it. He was hers. Who would have ever thought that would happen? It was a lot different from him being tied up at the table, or screaming about not being able to bite people. She smiled fondly at him.

"Honey," she began, taking a deep breath, "you were human just a few weeks ago, and when two humans get together in bed, and they don't use any protection, funny things can happen, like more humans appearing nine months later." She felt more nervous telling him this than she did when she was fighting any sort of demon. She was pretty sure that he had never heard anyone say that to him in his eternity.

As Buffy spoke all of the crazy things she'd said that night began to make sense. Buffy thought she was pregnant. How had he not realized what she was talking about sooner? He couldn't believe it had taken him that long. However, not that he got it, he didn't know exactly what to say in response. Buffy couldn't be pregnant. They hadn't done it that much while he'd been human, but then again, it only took one time. Spike had never been in a situation like this before and his disbelief probably showed on his face at that moment. "You think you're pregnant? Have you taken one of those tests?" Sitting back on his knees, he ran a hand over his white blond hair as blue eyes went from Buffy's face to her stomach and back again. If there was one thing Spike wasn't it was father material.

Now he understood. Buffy looked at Spike and almost giggled. He looked a little bit lost, and somewhere she knew that he would actually be very good at this. He would have to figure it out for himself, and she still couldn't wait for a diaper change, but he would be a good father.

"I don't know for sure. I haven't taken a test, but it was more than once." She reached out and ran fingers through his hair. "I do have a feeling that it's true." She felt good though. She wasn't sick at all, and wasn't really tired. "If it's a girl, I feel bad for anyone who tries to date her." She arched a brow at Spike, just imagining the look of terror on a teen boy's face when he would have to meet daddy.

"What do you think of all this? I might just be totally paranoid about it, but what if it's true?"

"Why haven't you taken a bloody test yet?" How long had it been now since she'd started taking all cryptic? A few days and she hadn't taken a test yet? "Are you waiting for an engraved invitation? 'Dear Buffy, this is your body calling, I think you may be knocked up. Might be a good time to check that out.' Is that what you're waiting for?" Spike got to his feet, turning away from Buffy for a moment then back and simply stared at her, at a complete loss for words.

Of course, this being Spike, the silence didn't last too long and he eventually laughed, "Paranoid? Slayer, look at us. Have you forgotten what happens when any of us are paranoid? It always ends badly."

"You can't always tell right away," she snapped. "I'm so glad to know that you think it will end badly. I know the thought of us being parents isn't great for YOU, and that YOU wouldn't want to try this with me, or that YOU wouldn't be excited that we might have a family together." Each statement was more pointed. She wasn't bothering to hide her anger, but she had sort of expected the reaction.

She stood up and walked into the kitchen to get some water, hiding disappointment that was obvious on her face. "It probably isn't true anyway. Why would I get a normal life, or something that would make me happy? I can' t be a pregnant slayer." She had a test that she bought earlier sitting in a bag on the counter. She was nervous about taking it. "Just say you don't want this and get it over with. "

"Bloody hell, woman!" Spike let out a frustrated growl as he followed Buffy into the kitchen, "Would you calm down." If anyone who didn't know them witnessed one of their arguments, they would probably think that their relationship was unhealthy and at one time that would have been true, now this was just one aspect of their relationship and never lasted very long. Their similar personalities were one of the reasons they worked so well together, but at the same time they clashed on occasion such as right now, "How did you expect this to go after blindsiding me like this? I've never had to deal with a sodding pregnancy scare."

He crossed his arms as he leaned against the counter near Buffy for a moment before uncrossing them and reaching out to run the backs of fingers along Buffy's cheek, "Do you want to be pregnant?"

"If you would have been paying attention to what I was saying then you would have been the first to know." She made a face at him, a half-pout. She also let him touch her face, moving a little closer to him, and then closer still until her cheek was leaning into his chest. They did fight, and she vented at him often enough, but neither were mad at all.

"I never thought I would have a family," she told him honestly. "What about you? Can you see yourself with an almost normal life, if you don't count the immortality, and the need for blood? Have you ever thought about a future?"
