when | Morning; November 1st.
where | Streets of Colligo.
rating | TBD
status | In Progress

Annie liked Colligo. She didn't care what anyone else had to say about the quaint city in the middle of nowhere, she liked it. She liked the different kinds of people who stayed there. She liked the strange going-ons that got everyone else all riled up. Most of all, though, she liked the fact that here, in this tiny little corner in the middle of nothingness, she was allowed freedom she'd never have back home. If she wanted to stay up late, she could stay up late. If she wanted to sleep all day, she could sleep all day. And if she wanted to go for a walk, all by herself, well, she could do that too.

Some part of Annie's mind - the part that recognized logic and fairness - knew that her connection with Charles, and several other powerful beings, was mostly why she had the freedom here that she didn't back home. If she did get into trouble, help was literally just a thought away. So unlike back home, there wasn't anyone too worried when she wandered off for a while on her own. Which made the walks even nicer because, while Annie really didn't care much about what others thought, it was always nice to go somewhere and not have to deal with Sister fussing at her later for having done gone in the first place. And today, she decided as she calmly meandered down the sidewalk leading away from the Xavier Mansion, was going to be an especially nice time. The weather was cool but not too cold, yet, and the threats that had been wandering around the city since she'd arrived were finally gone. Not that they were really threats in the first place, as far as she was concerned, but it was nice to not have to make rocks fall on them just the same.

Having left her Sally Doll at home, Annie's hands were stuffed inside the pockets of the jacket that she was wearing. She'd stuck her PDA in there before leaving, so her fingers danced almost nervously along the smooth casing of the device as she moved along. Her gaze was darting about, a small, ghost of a smile flickering briefly across her face as various things here and there caught her eye only to be replaced by something else a few seconds later. She smiled shyly at some locals as they passed, ducking her head a bit in shyness when one of the girls commented on liking her hat. Then they were gone, continuing on their way, and Annie once again resumed her step-shuffle that lead away from where she stayed and toward...

Well, she didn't exactly know where she was going, but something told her she was bound to meet at least one interesting person along the way.

Sookie was on her way to the library, she was going before she had to be at work. She was glad that the problems Halloween had caused were over. She didn't know how they had made it through, she had mostly been scared of the zombies, even if they hadn't been very fast moving. Sookie was not a scaredy cat at all, the past few years in Bon Temps had proven her to be strong. She just hadn't ever come up against zombies before in her life, and wasn't about to start now. Now that Halloween was over, it seemed to be back to normal.

The library would always be one of Sookie's very favorite places, no matter where she lived. She liked going and checking out books. Sookie was self taught, school had been hard for her. It had been hard to block out everyone else's thoughts. She had not been able to seek higher education for that reason, not to mention, she and her grandmother had not exactly been flush. She missed being in Bon Temps, she couldn't visit Adele's final resting place now that she was here in Colligo. Sookie was glad to be living with Melinda, though, Melinda was a great roommate and a good friend.

The way to the library was a pleasant walk, and Sookie saw someone who seemed to be enjoying herself. She came upon the other girl, and gave her a smile. The girl seemed shy, and Sookie was always friendly, it was her Southern nature. "Hi, I'm Sookie." She told the other girl.

Annie's first instinct was, as always, to cover her face with her hands and wait relatively patiently for the newcomer to go away. It was how she had deal with new people for most of her life and, under most other circumstances, was precisely how she would have handled Sookie too. However, in Colligo, with people around her who both could, and had, helped her in small ways with overcoming her autism as much as was possible, Annie knew that hiding behind her hands wouldn't actually make the other woman leave. It also wouldn't summon Sister, who would do much the same. So Annie didn't fall back on her tried and true method but instead offered the woman a small, somewhat distracted sort of smile.

"H-Hello 'ookie," she greeted the blond, the words not quite spoken clearly but obviously as clear as she could hope to manage, given her limitations. There was a pause then she offered as helpfully as possible, "A-Annie. I'm Annie."

If there was anything more for her to say, Annie didn't say it. Much like her thoughts, what she was intending to say was trapped high in a tower, far removed from even the most advanced telepath without Annie's specific permission to hear what was rattling around inside her head. Slowly she offered a faint smile. Nothing else was said, certainly nothing more than a perfunctory greeting, before the girl fell silent once more and simply waited to see what would happen.

Sookie noticed that something was off about her, and she wondered if the sister she was thinking of was a nun or the girl's sister. Sookie thought she was interesting. She wondered how long she had been in Colligo. It could be any number of time, Sookie didn't see many people that didn't come into the bar.

"I am glad to meet you, Annie. Who's Sister?" She asked, truly curious. She was always glad to make a new friend, especially here, which was really the strangest town she had ever been in. She didn't want to be here, but she might as well make the most of it while she could.

Sookie adjusted her bag of library books. "I haven't been here very long, either. I miss my hometown. What about you? Do you miss where you were too?" Sookie didn't want to upset her asking about where she had been before, but she knew it might help to talk about things like that. It was never good to hide things, Sookie knew about secrets, and they always ruined things.
