WHO: Meri Winchester and Emmanuelle
WHAT: Meri is dead and isn't happy about it.
WHEN: Sometime after this.
WHERE: The White Room
RATING: PG (if that)
STATUS: Complete; Narrative
NOTES: The White Room is the room where those who die in Colligo go, until they're restored to life. The room conforms to whatever the person wants to do to stay busy while waiting for their life to be returned to them, provided it's something that's capable of happening in a room (versus a park or something to that end) and, of course, all abilities are rendered null and void as well.
Meri was mad. Scratch that. She was furious. Stupid Asaph had made her forget things. Important things. Things like who her parents were. Or that she had a pet raptor. Or where her house was located. And Meri would have been fine with that, since she knew her memories would've come back sooner or later, if not for the fact that she hadn't been the only one affected. No, everyone else had been affected too. Including Lucifer. Which meant Lucifer had forgotten that they were friends.
And now, because of that, he had killed her.
So now she was dead. Dead and in a room that she couldn't leave, with no way to talk to anybody else. Because she was dead. Sure, she was going to come back to life eventually, but for now she was dead. Not even having access to the coolest video games took the sting out of it. She was dead and, as soon as she got back to life, she was going to make sure Lucifer paid for it because Meri had made up her mind. The stupid, mean, rude Archangel wasn't her friend anymore. Friends didn't kill friends.
Sighing heavily, she scowled at the television screen and angrily pressed the buttons on the controller she was holding. The girl on the screen shot her gun at advancing zombies accordingly, but Meri barely even noticed. She was too busy picturing doing the same thing to Lucifer's face. After she trapped him in holy fire. And kicked him in the shins. Because he'd killed her.
Tossing down the controller, Meri flung herself backward on the sofa she'd been sitting on and let out a growl of frustration. "This is dumb!" she announced to the empty room. "I want to go back now. This is so dumb." Heaving another sigh, she snatched up a nearby throw pillow, pressed it into her face, and shrieked into it as loudly as she could. It didn't really make her feel any better so, after a second, she tossed it down and sat back up again.
Only to realize she wasn't alone.
Face scrunching up a bit, Meri stared at the intruder for a long moment before rolling her eyes and turning her attention back to the video game. "Go away," she stated flatly, looking around for the game controller. Picking it up, she sniffed disdainfully and announced, "I'm not talking to you."
Emmanuelle didn't respond, simply continued to stand in the doorway and observe the angry little girl as she once again began viciously shooting video game zombies. She could speak, if she wanted. In this place, this one singular room, she could use her True Voice without bringing harm to anyone who might be present. However, for now, she remained silent and waited for Meri to come around in her own time.
It didn't take long. A few seconds of silence was about all the girl could take before she paused her game and turned a bit to look at the Almighty directly. "Why'd you let it happen?" she demanded in a huff. "Why'd you let me die? It's not fair!" Her lower lip trembled and she sniffled quietly. Slowly she let her gaze drop to her lap, absently picking at a spot on her jeans as she repeated in a wavering tone, "It's not fair. It's not. I died and left Jack and Gabi alone and... and..." Her gaze shot up to Emmanuelle, suddenly angry again.
"I hate you! And I hate Lucifer. And Asaph. And this whole stupid, stupid place, and I want to go home!" The last word was shrieked, and coupled with tears that came, violently and unbidden.
And then Meri rushed forward, all but tossing herself at Emmanuelle. Wrapping her arms around God's waist, she buried her face in her stomach and finally let loose with the tears she'd kept buried inside of her since the minute she'd woken up to find herself stuck in limbo until the city sorted itself out. "It's not fair," she repeated yet again, the words muffled.
"Shh," was the only response, as Emmanuelle wrapped her in a hug. Whether it was the hug, or the sound of God's attempts to calm her, or something else entirely, Meri didn't know. But she felt the tears leave her in a rush and a peace she'd never before known wash over her. She still didn't think being dead was fair. And she definitely wasn't Lucifer's friend anymore. And she really was still furious with Asaph and God both for letting her die in the first place.
But she felt better. So well, in fact, that a few seconds later she sniffled softly, pulled back enough to peer upward at the Almighty, and asked with a tear-streaked face, in a hopeful tone, "Wanna play video games with me? One player kind of sucks."
