WHO: Sherlock Holmes & Rachel Pirzad
WHAT: Sherlock is going over some mystery samples, but someone else ends up getting the jump on his studies.
WHEN: August 15th; Afternoon (After This)
WHERE: The Colligo Crime Lab
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Sherlock hadn't been horribly starved of work lately. He'd avoided throwing his lot in with the other scientists during the previous madness that had ensued because he had thought that as many egos that they already had working together on one thing, adding his into the mess would have just set their productiveness back, and he had had more than enough duties to attend to with the police force as it was. Shuffling insane people out of the middle of chaos wasn't exactly his standard practice, though, and his patience had started to run thin by the time that the toxin had actually been cleared from the city, so being back in the lab was a relief to him even if what was on the slides in front of him continued to confound his extensive skills.

Flipping the magnification and adjusting the settings, Sherlock squinted into the microscope before huffing quietly, "What am I missing?" He muttered to himself, leaning back over and picking up the shirt that the sample had been pulled off of, turning it over in his gloved hands before holding it up to the light. There was something that was making figuring out what this was more complicated than it should be, but for the life of him, whatever that was was beyond him.

Lowering the shirt back down on the table with a huff, Sherlock paused as he caught a sudden whiff of something in the air, seemingly stirred up from him dropping the shirt back down. Well, that was new.

The hesitation at shaking hands was something that he was actually familiar with and certainly something that he could appreciate. So even as she strove to explain, Sherlock just smiled and nodded as he dropped his hand back to his side, "It's quite all right. Those are all perfectly logical objections and issues to have," He said before glancing towards the door and motioning for her to head towards it. "I can show you where you can find Mac, if you'd like," He said before chuckling at her statements about a walking crime lab.

He'd heard muttering about a similar thing in regards to himself, but it seemed that she was better equipped than even he was if she was able to hone in on things without the use of a microscope or any other tools that were required for him to make his deductions. The jealousy at the idea of being replaced by someone more skilled was welling up in his gut, he knew that he had to be mature about this. More hands meant better work results, and well, he'd gotten used to Gil even as much as the man had grated on him at first. She, at least, was a little more endearing at first glance.

"And yes, I did," Sherlock said with a hint of a smile. "Not quite the Victorian version that you'd likely expect, though, but still just as capable, I assure you."
