WHO: Lexi Branson and Stefan Salvatore
WHAT: Two vampires, one good and one evil, run into each other on the street.....should be interesting
WHEN: Friday, January 27th. Morning
WHERE: On the street
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

For the last week, Lexi had been keeping an eye out for Stefan whenever she left the apartment. She was less jumpy after talking to Huck and he'd able to talk some sense into her, but that didn't stop her from watching for Stefan. If anyone knew how bad Stefan could be when he was like this it was her and Damon and Lexi was the only one who had actually managed to snap him out of it on more than one occasion. The last time had been after he'd fallen off the wagon in the 1920s and she would do it again if it meant getting Stefan back. Of course she knew things probably wouldn't be the same between him and certain people, namely Elena, but any version of Stefan was better than Ripper, not giving a flying monkey's butt Stefan. Of course she wanted to give Asaph a big piece of her mind for bringing Stefan to Colligo like this, but all that was bound to do was make things worse somehow. If there was one thing Morgan Freeman enjoyed doing, it was throwing a wrench into any gears he came across.

Lexi was on her way to the Roadhouse to pick up her check and doing a bit of window shopping on the way, because really, she didn't need anymore clothes no matter how cute those leather boots would look on her. Huck had never expressed any disdain with her wardrobe, but she knew that she had more clothes than him and should probably wear some of the stuff she had before getting new stuff. She had stopped to look at a super cute pair of jeans in a store window when she caught a glimpse of a rather familiar reflection behind her. Well it was only a matter of time before her and Stefan ran into each other and really, sooner was better than later in her opinion. Turning away from the window, she stared straight across at where Stefan was, practically challenging him to join her.

Takes another sip of the coffee, his finger pointing at her as he sets down the mug.

"Because I know you. You have some desire to fix me. But what you don't realize is, there is nothing wrong with me."

He leaned back in his seat. He didn't really have any desire to be fixed. In fact, Klaus had done him a service. He no longer felt any guilt when he fed. The names of the victims were no longer important. He was just doing as he was created to do, kill.

"I've heard this story before, Stefan. You always say there's nothing to fix, but then you let me in and things are so much better in the end. I mean seriously, do you enjoy being an enormous asshat? Because no one else enjoys it." Lexi hated how stubborn Stefan could be when he was like this and it really did take all her self control not to just haul off and hit him. It would make things so much easier of course, but she didn't want to have to resort to that just yet. Besides, even if she did succeed in knocking him out, she wasn't sure if they had a place to hold him yet, "So, really, you might as well just give up and let us fix you because it's going to happen one way or the other and everyone will be much better off."

Stefan's lips ghosted a smirk as he chuckled.

"Actually, Lex. Yes." His voice was smug. "I am enjoying be a asshat. This life isn't so bad. Big brother gets to take care of all the humans and I am free to live my life as I see fit."

He shrugged and leaned forward to take another sip.

"Besides, am I bothering you? Have I bothered any of you?" His gaze focused on hers, refusing to back down. "Nope. And I don't have any desire to. So seriously, Lex, get a new pet project. I quite enjoy what I am."

Lexi sighed and tossed her hair behind her shoulder before sitting back against the booth and took a sip of her coffee, "I never thought I'd see the day when you would want to stay like this. I always thought you were better than this Stefan. You've always been so much stronger." She frowned, arms now crossed over her chest as she stared across the table at Stefan. "You might not think you are, but you are bothering me, Stefan. You're bothering me, because you're ready to give up and all because of Klaus. Klaus, who isn't even here and if he were, trust me, we'd stop him, because there are people here who have no problem taking down a hybrid without batting an eyelash." She sat for a moment longer before leaning forward again, "And fyi, I'll never give up on you, Stefan, because best friends don't give up on each other, no matter what."

Brow raised at Lexi's words, still somewhat amused by her attitude, he smirked.

"I haven't given up anything. I am just content with how things are." He leaned forward once more. "As for Klaus, if he were here, I could take care of him. You just have to be the better bad guy and Klaus is proving not to be a worthy opponent."

He lifted the cup once more, cradling it in his cool hands as his stared across the table at her.

"If I'm bothering you with how I choose to exist, then don't follow me. And honestly, Lexi, best friends? Isn't that a tad bit Judy Blume, even for you?"

"Stefan..." Lexi hated to admit it, but she was at a loss. Despite having brought him back from his Ripper ways twice, neither time had Stefan actually managed to turn off his humanity like Klaus had gotten him to, "Can you honestly say that you're happier like this? You're happier not caring? Happier without Elena?" It was such a change from when Lexi had last seen Stefan in both Mystic Falls and Colligo and it was disturbing to be honest. "And yes, best friends. You never had a problem when I showed up on your birthday every year. Remember when we partied with Jon Bon Jovi? You didn't seem to mind having a best friend any of those times. Where is that Stefan? The one who actually enjoyed my company? Because I miss that Stefan. Is he still in there somewhere?" She really wasn't sure which part was the more disturbing, that he'd turned off his humanity or that he was a Ripper.

Stefan was tired of the conversation. He was what he was and it would be best for all if they just accepted that fact. Elena had fought the reality of the situation, back in Mystic Falls. She had clung on to the memory of what she remembered he was and to her foolish notion that something as simple as her love could change things.

Truthfully, Klaus had liberated him from several lifetimes of guilt and regret. If he weren't such a smug, controlling bastard, Stefan might have thanked him for such a gift.

Setting the coffee cup on the table, he rose from his seat.

"We had fun and still could. But if you insist on nagging me to change, then you are just wasting your time and just going to piss me off."

He placed his hand on the table, his gaze focusing on hers intently.

"Accept things you cannot change, Lex, or move on and let go."

Feeling he had made his point, he lifted his hand and walked out of the coffee shop. He was tired of her 'holier than thou' act and while, there was a time that he appreciated her help, he had no interest in changing. He was here to stay and everyone was going to have to deal with it or else things were going to get ugly.

Lexi was beyond frustrated, but deep down there was a part of her that understood him even if she really didn't want to. If she were anyone else Stefan probably would have compelled her just now, but being older and stronger than him, she was able to resist compulsion even when he was the way he was now, but that didn't mean that she didn't get the message loud and clear. However, she didn't have to give up hope that someday they might be able to get the Stefan they all knew and loved back, because crazier things had happened. For now though, she knew that the right thing to do was to let him be, because when he was like this, there was every chance that Stefan might just go off and do something to prove a point.

Getting up, she grabbed his cup as well and tossed both in the trash before following after him, "I'm not giving up on you Stefan. I won't force a fix on you, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up on you." She waited to make sure he'd heard her then turned and headed back towards the Roadhouse, where she'd been headed before her run in with Stefan.
