WHO: Lyle Bennet & Rogue
WHAT: Lyle's already spent movie night with a bunch of girls, and now, he's on to stage two of the great socializing endeavor: group activities.
WHERE: Colligo Roller Rink; Laser Light Show Night (yes, I'm serious)
WHEN: July 8th; Evening
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Without his sister or Molly to put up with his insanity, Lyle had taken to inflicting it on others. And he'd been rather surprised to find that most people didn't seem to mind his own patented brand of crazy. Granted, it probably helped that a good percentage of the people trapped in this place were equally as insane, driven to the edge by circumstances as nutty or nuttier than what he'd experienced back home, and didn't seem to be horribly phased by a regular kid prone to heavy tones of realistic sarcasm. Not that he would have been, either, if he'd been in their shoes. Of course, the successes that had come from his recent attempts at normal human interaction spurred a new courage in the normally antisocial teen and had prompted him to do something completely insane.

Like go to a late night roller disco in search of potential company.

It wasn't the most orthodox of selections that Lyle could have made. Most people his age might have selected a bar or a dance club for evening entertainment, but Lyle had been in college in California long enough to realize that bars were usually seriously depressing places while dance clubs were dark, sweaty, and loud. This place, while not exactly a far step away from a dance club in many respects, was at least less crowded and had the volume on the music turned down to a much more suitable level. One that made conversations actually humanly possible without ending up hoarse the next day, at least. This place came with its own pains, though.

He'd be lucky tomorrow if he could sit down without wincing.

He might not have been the grandest skater in the place, marked by his haste to clear off the rink whenever one of those complicated line dances was called, but when he did manage to get fully around the rink without his skates going out from under him, it was worth all of the effort. As was the conversation he'd had during the evening, even if it had only been with a handful of locals so far.

If Rogue hadn't already been laughing due to embarrassment from the fall, she would definitely have been doing so by the time Lyle got around to introducing himself. What could she say? He definitely had a dry sense of humour yet that was precisely the sort of thing that she enjoyed. Yes, she tended to prefer the more clean cut types rather than the 'bad boys', but sarcasm, when done correctly at least, had always been something she had appreciated. Probably because she wasn't very good at it herself.

Whatever the reason, though, Rogue was definitely laughing as she placed her gloved hand in Lyle's offered one, allowing him to help her pull herself to her feet. Although it took a few seconds for her to steady herself once on her skates again, Rogue managed to pull her hand free with little more than a smile and a somewhat breathless, "Thanks." It wasn't until Lyle had finished speaking that she spoke again, the smile still present on her face and her dark eyes shining with amusement.

"It's nice to meet you, Lyle," she said lightly. "I'm Rogue." And yes, she knew that wasn't her real name, nor did she expect others to think it was. However Marie was something she had found she preferred to save for someone who deserved to know it. It was easier that way, she'd found. Keeping herself at a distance, even using a different name entirely, until she was sure they could handle everything that came with being her friend. Then she left it up to them what they wanted to call her. Bobby, for instance, had gone with Marie. Kitty had decided to stick with Rogue. And Lyle... well, she wondered what he would choose once he got that far. If he did, of course.

Not wanting to dwell on her name, or lack thereof, for long, Rogue tacked on, "And I feel you, on the bruise bit. I'm not sure I'll be able to move, come tomorrow." She smiled again. "This... isn't really something I do often, if my flailing about didn't already make that obvious." As though to prove her point, she tipped her head toward the railing along the wall that she was clinging to for dear life, laughing a bit as she did so.

Taking a gloved hand in his, Lyle was momentarily surprised but the subtle expression was concealed by the darkness, the first clear reaction on his features towards her peculiar accessory was the mischievous grin and glint in his eye, "Fancy," He said, only a hint of teasing in his tone as he turned his gaze up to hers. "I always appreciate a lady who knows how to dress up for an evening out," He said as he bowed to her with a ridiculous flourish, tipping his gaze up to her and winking playfully. As if there were any doubt in his mind as to who he was taking with -- the gloves were a bit of a dead give away -- the introduction simply confirmed it, and it took every ounce of control in Lyle to keep from vibrating with giddy fanboy glee. He'd seen each of the X-Men arrive, of course, but after ticking off their head honcho, Lyle had figured he was better off keeping his head down before he got turned into a little girl with pretty, pretty pigtails for the remainder of his Colligo stay.

"Yeah, me neither," Lyle said with a slight laugh as he moved to pull himself a few inches towards the nearest exit on the rink and shifted himself off of the slick wooden slabs and onto the much more manageable carpet. "It just seemed a much more preferable option to going and making awkward small talk with my sister's husband while wondering exactly what corner of the apartment she's being all invisible in," He said with a grin. "And you know what they say, no pain, no gain. And considering how much agony I'm in right now, I'm certainly earning my keep."

Still holding on to the other side of the railing with one hand, Lyle offered her a helping hand off onto the carpet, "You know, the least I can do for being a ridiculous oaf is buy you a drink. Or some cheese fries. That's less cliche and expected."

With a smile still on her face, Rogue offered him her hand once again and let him help her onto the carpet. Once there, she breathed a soft sigh of relief but still had to keep one gloved palm pressed firmly against the wall to keep herself upright for a few perilous seconds. Only once she was sure she would stay on her feet - or, rather, skates - did she pull her hand away and even consider trying to speak.

"Cheese fries sound good," she agreed, a bit breathless after her journey from the rink to the carpet. Pushing some of her hair out of her face, she smiled at him with a somewhat flushed expression born from the unintended yet still unavoidable exercise. "It's always better to go with unexpected over clichéd any day of the week, if you ask me."

Then she paused, something vague from her initial arrival at Colligo finally registering. "We met, right? Over that network thing when I first showed up?"

"We might want to get these portable death traps off before we attempt to go anywhere near the concession stand," Lyle said with a laugh as he clutched onto the railing for dear life as he leaned down to undo the straps on one of his skates. If he could get one off without breaking his neck, he could get the other off without killing himself as well. And after a bit of fumbling and held breath, he managed to get the skate off and his foot on the solid ground.

Exhaling heavily in relief, Lyle shifted and lifted up the other skate and pulled it off without much difficulty. "Free at last, free at last," Lyle intoned, knowing perhaps that such a declaration was heavily uncalled for when he was just taking off skates, but his relief could only be expressed in such a way.

At her recollection, though, Lyle couldn't help but color ever so slightly as he offered her a sheepish smile, "Yeah, that was me. Mister I Promise I'm Not a Creeper. Seriously, I promise I'm not a creeper," Lyle said, raising a hand to rub at the back of his neck. "I just get a bit... overenthusiastic at times. And dense. Really dense. But I'm only eighteen. Not only that, but an eighteen year old boy. That means dense is as natural as breathing to me. Right?"

And now that he had stumbled and stuttered his way through some type of cover for something that he didn't even know if it really was a problem or not and could feel like a right asshole, "So. Cheese fries?"
