WHO: Sherlock Holmes, Jim Moriarty, & ickle!Mycroft Holmes
WHAT: Two very inept men attempt to babysit Mycroft. Speculations on just how much they're going to die when Mycroft is back to normal welcome.
WHEN: After this
WHERE: Sherlock's flat
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

It had been quite a chore for Sherlock to get used to having a child around. Even if it was his brother and therefore not nearly as irritating as a 'normal' child would have been, it was still a major adjustment. After several admonishing looks and 'so not good's from John, though, Sherlock was pretty sure that he'd managed to figure out what was inappropriate to say and how to managed not upsetting Mycroft as much as he had during their first conversation. It was odd, having to deal with his brother with a sympathetic touch instead of one that resulted in acerbic banter, but Sherlock was slowly getting used to the differences. It was a small matter to deal with his brother when John and Hermione were around to assist as well since they seemed to have a better idea what needed to be done than he did, but with the both of them at work, Sherlock had quickly found himself floundering.

And that was when he'd gotten Jim's text. While he would have enjoyed running out to cure Jim's boredom, Sherlock did have enough sense of responsibility to know that he had to stay here and be a proper big brother. Of course, that was when the thought had struck him, and he'd decided that inviting Jim to assist was somehow a brilliant idea. John would likely kill him for it, and he knew that when Mycroft was back to himself, he would most definitely give him an earful for allowing such a man anywhere close to him.

But at the moment, he could really use the help.

It had taken a lot of convincing, along with a fair bit of reasoning in a way that would have his mother both nodding in approval and frowning at him for daring to speak such a way to an authority figure, but Mycroft had finally convinced Anthea to allow him some time alone with Sherlock. After all, he was nearly old enough to watch after himself as it was, so it wasn't as though anything too awful would happen. Yes, his brother might not be exactly how he remembered him but Mycroft had absolute faith that he wouldn't put him in harm's way.

Of course, in his very organized but still young mind, Mycroft hadn't accounted for quite everything. For example, he hadn't really thought much on whether Sherlock had the first idea how to step into the role of big brother. He also hadn't put much thought into whether or not he was ready for much the same. The emotional side of it, at the time, had been far more on being alone with the only family he had in the city but now that it had come to pass he'd quickly realized there was far more involved than simply that.

Then Sherlock had gotten a text and things had shifted somehow. He studied his brother closely, mind whirling to sort out possible things he could be saying to whomever he was speaking with over the PDA based on which keys he pressed and in what order. He waited until Sherlock finally set the device aside before speaking.

"Someone stopping by, then?" Mycroft asked. His tone was laced with an earnest curiosity that hadn't yet been tempered by time, age, and the desire to appear to already be well aware of everything taking place around him even if he truly wasn't. He simply thought he'd worked out what the conversation had ultimately entailed based on a careful assortment of various observations and wanted to know if he'd gotten it right.

Sherlock shouldn't have been surprised. He'd likely watched Anthea text enough by now that he could tell what every word was that had been typed, so Sherlock had merely leveled a gaze at Mycroft that he attempted to keep as negative as possible and nodded, "A friend," He said with as little sense of irony as possible. "He's bored and restless, and leaving him that way is never the greatest idea." Probably not the best way to explain that as even young, Mycroft would likely ping to anything even remotely suspicious, but it had already been said so there was no taking it back now. "So I offered to let him come up here."

It was a careful two-step, to say everything that he needed to, but to not relieve to much with still telling the absolute truth. Blurting out that Jim was a serial killer likely would put a damper on the whole affair. And he was going to get more than enough grief for this when Mycroft was older again.

"I hope that's all right." Not that it mattered if it wasn't since he'd already invited Jim, and he could hardly uninvite him. Besides, he...really needed the help right now. Sherlock didn't have the faintest clue what to do with his brother this size.

Mycroft wasn't stupid. He knew that Sherlock was keeping something from him, was saying it in such a way that it didn't sound as bad as it likely was. He might not know this older version of his brother very well but he could see that as clearly as the nose on his face. However, Mycroft didn't push the issue. There just didn't seem any point to it and, if the other man coming over might harm others if he wasn't entertained, well, far be it from Mycroft to stop the potential protection of innocent people.

Besides, if his brother deemed him worthy enough to spend time with, he must be interesting. So there was that.

"Does it matter if it isn't?" he questioned in regards to it being all right. "You've already invited him. It'd be a bit rude to uninvite him." Besides, Mycroft was certainly intrigued at the idea of someone new to meet, even if the man might be a bit dangerous. He trusted his brother not to put him in harm's way. At least, not intentionally.

Before he could say another word on the subject, there was the sound of the front door opening. Turning in his chair, he watched as a man he hadn't seen before stepped inside. The first thing he noticed was how the man held himself, the clothing he wore, even the look on his face. Clearly this stranger believed that looking one's best was important but that wasn't what got Mycroft's interest.

It was his eyes. There was something in them, something wrong, a madness mixed with intelligence that chilled the boy studying him directly to the bone. Seemingly without realizing it, Mycroft slid a bit further down in his seat as though he was trying to make himself barely noticeable. The man noticed, gaze flickering briefly to him and an off-putting smile twisting his features.

"Oh my," Jim said with delight, stepping further into the room. "This certainly looks interesting..."
