WHO: Jeremy and Ric
WHEN: Friday lunchtime
WHERE: Ric's appartment
WHAT: Jeremy needs some company to stop him going insane
RATING: TBD
STATUS: Incomplete

Jeremy had been going absolutely stir crazy. He'd mainly stayed in his room since discovering what he'd become. It had been very hard to make himself stay put, especially when Stefan had come to see Elena. He'd been able to smell the blood, even though the walls and door that separated them. He'd wanted to rip into Stefan's flesh and completely drain him. It terrified him. He actually liked Stefan. He didn't want to think he was capable of hurting someone he liked. The experience had bought everything concerning Vicki into a very stark light. He could remember, actually remember, what had happened the night she'd died. He could remember her trying to bite him, and the way she had attacked Elena. Still, instead of being angry at her for it, he completely understood where she was coming from. He felt so sorry for her, having to go through all this alone. She was fragile, far more so than him. He couldn't imagine how hard it all must have been for her.

Jeremy made sure all the curtains in the living room of the appartment was shut, no sunlight able to seep in and burn him, before making his way to the front door. He slipped out into the hall, checking no one was around for him to attack, before crossing to Ric's door and knocking. Every sense seemed to be heightened. He could see little flakes on the wall where the paint was beginning to peel and he could hear people moving around in the other appartments. It freaked him right out! "Hurry up," he said impatiently, frowning as he waited.

Ric was worried about Jeremy. While he was adapting fairly easily to his newly discovered vampirism, minor incidents of biting Damon and wanting to murder his ex-wife aside, he wasn't sure Jeremy was coping with it nearly as well. He felt a certain sense of responsibility toward Jeremy, and not just because he was dating the boy's guardian. The teenager was one of his favorite students and he felt as though he were something of a mentor to him. Because of that, he felt like he was the best person to help him with this. Stefan and Damon were human, so they weren't exactly the best people to have around Jeremy right now, and Elena had her own issues to deal with.

The knock came quickly enough, and he waited while Damon invited Jeremy in, made his excuses and left. The curtains were closed and no sunlight in the apartment, and there was a certain nervous energy to the room. "Hey, Jer," Ric said with a small smile. "How are you holding up?" If this was hard for him, it had to be even harder for Jeremy with all his teenage hormones and emotional issues. He was really glad that he wasn't a sixteen year old dealing with this.

Jeremy just wanted to get inside. It sucked to have to wait for an invitation, especially because his first impulse once he was inside was to jump on Damon and rip his throat open. Still, he resisted... Just.

Forcing himself to walk into the appartment, and not run after Damon, Jeremy flopped down onto the couch, shutting his eyes. He didn't reply to Ric straight away, trying to get a grip of himself. "Yeah..." he replied finally. "Not so good." He took a deep breath, but that really didn't help. He could smell Damon on the couch and it just fueled the painful hunger that was coursing through him. "I'm so freaking hungry!"

Ric figured that would be the response. Moving into the kitchen, he grabbed a bag of blood and jabbed a straw into it like it was a pouch of Capri Sun. Coming back to the couch, he passed it to Jeremy before going back and getting one for himself. Not as good as the fresh stuff, now that he knew the difference, but it wasn't awful.

"Alcohol helps with the cravings," he said, sitting down next to the younger...vampire. "Food too...for taking your mind off it anyway. Speaking of, I went ahead and ordered pizza. Figured the works was the best bet." He put a hand on the boy's shoulder, his expression concerned. "You can talk to me, Jer. How are you doing, besides the hunger?"

Jeremy could smell the blood as soon as the straw punctured the bag. The skin around his eyes tightened uncomfortably and he felt the sharp sting of fangs breaking through his gums. Hell, he really needed to get this under control. Still, as Ric passed him the blood bag, all he could focus on was drinking. The straw made a stupid gurgling noise as he drank. Jeremy wrinkled his nose. "This is really lame," he mumbled, frowning, but he didn't stop drinking. The blood was so good, like water on a hot day. It was a painful effort to actually stop himself draining the whole bag right then. He hadn't had as much self control the night before. He'd drunk until he thought he'd be sick if he had any more.

Taking a deep breath, Jeremy put the blood to one side and tried to ignore it. "Yeah, thanks," he said distractedly. Pizza was near enough Jeremy's favourite food - or it had been before - but he just couldn't get excited about it just now. "I'm... going from being totally bored, to really hungry, to crying like a girl over Vicki. What the fuck is up with that?!" He never cried. Never! The last time he'd cried was when Vicki had actually died, which remembering apparently didn't make less painful.

The bag of blood didn't really impress Ric any more. He'd tried the real thing and he preferred that. But it wasn't like he was going to get Damon to give donations every day or hunt down people outside. He had enough self-control that he could settle for this. It seemed like he just needed to teach Jeremy the same sort of self-control. "It gets better," he said calmly. "You just have to work through it...and that can be hard. There's a part of you that will always want the blood, and damn the consequences, but what you have to do is overcome that and not let it master you. You're the one in control, not the hunger. You just need to remember that."

He sighed. "Emotions are a tough thing," he said. "You feel them more as a vampire, unless you shut them off. And I wouldn't advise that, because it's your emotions that make you human. Cutting them out makes it harder not to lose yourself. And then the strong emotions - the love, the hate, the anger - they all translate into that hunger. That's why you're so drawn to Vicki. You have that love and that anger and that grief...and your body turns all of that into hunger. Does that make sense?" And somehow, he'd become a freaking Qui-Gon for baby vampires, when he barely knew how to do it himself. Fantastic.

"Yeah yeah, I know," Jeremy said, glancing sideways at the bag. Still, he didn't reach out for it. He wanted to learn how to control himself, because once he had, he could see Vicki again. He didn't want to risk seeing her until he knew he was safe, although right now, she was the one person he wanted to see more than anyone else.

"I guess so," he said, frowning. He really didn't want to think he would ever hurt Vicki, but now the compusion was wearing off, he remembered what had happened the night Vicki had died. She'd wanted to feed on him and she'd attacked Elena. That wasn't the Vicki he'd known. That was her hunger talking and he didn't want to risk that happening with him.

"I'll be fine," he said eventually, crossing his arms over his chest and letting his eyes shut briefly as he took a deep breath. After a moment, he reached out and took hold of the blood bag again. He took another sip and licked his lips before looking up at Ric. "Where's this pizza anyway?" Jeremy asked. He hadn't eaten real food since this whole thing had started, and although he wasn't hungry, at least not for pizza, he really wanted to eat, if only just to feel a little more normal.
