Who: Regulus and Merlin
What: Meeting
When: Noonish
Where: at Merlin's shop
Rating/Warnings: Maybe swearing, most likely low
Status: In progress/Closed.

Regulus knew he couldn’t stay in that flat. Sirius said he was going out and just on that phrase alone it sounded as if he would be back before long. Even Regulus knew such pronouncements did not bode well for a peaceful night’s sleep. Or a peaceful rest of existence.

After securing lodging for the night Regulus walked out of the flat, out of the building and chose a direction. He couldn’t arrive at Severus’ yet; both had a limit for how much they could handle each other. It was true that Regulus liked to see where that limit was from time to time, but he really needed a place to sleep and he couldn’t risk being kicked out of another flat today. To pass time he had a whole, newly reconstructed city to explore.

It was rather amazing how different everything seemed without those inferi lurking around every corner. It was positively delightful.

After walking some distance, some turns down one way, then another, Regulus found himself along a street with smaller single shop fronts that made for some distracting window shopping. Apparently he had money in a bank somewhere, but Regulus wasn’t sure where, and not that he had much interest in baby bonnets or cook ware.

He was just about to give up on the steet, turn at the next block when one store caught his eye. Some kind of magic trick shop. Regulus paused, odd sensations coursing over him. This was the kind of thing muggles found hilarious, but he should find insulting, or so his mother would tell him. As a child he’d never been allowed in on of these places, and as an teenager learning the extend of his own autonomy he’d already started espousing his parents’ ideals without question. Now presented him with an opportunity to stick everything he’d been taught to them.

He hesitated a bit more, staring at the front a moment longer, but then he was pulling open the door and walking inside. He found a sales rack and started looking, giddy from defying a set of people who didn’t exist in this place or time.

"Ya, I was talking to someone going on about controlling the undead and she jumped in." And then, after a few comments about dull history she proceeded to chastise him for not trusting or liking muggles, but that wasn't pertinent, what was was the fact The Merlin was right there in front of him, showing off, even.

Regulus smiled at the display of magic, small though it may be, someone like this had a right to brag.

"I suppose, back home everything was so different. I'm Regulus, by the way." He thought about extending his hand in greeting, then thought he shouldn't as Merlin should be the one to do that, but then he figured, what the hell, so he held out his hand.

"That would be Morgause." He pointed out, and was perfectly happy to leave it at that. Merlin hadn't liked the zombies, or the idea of Morgause or anyone else for that matter, controlling them. Nimueh and Morgause had both done it back home, and now someone else had done it here. He easily preferred any of the other tricks this place had pulled on them to this most recent one.

"Nice to meet you, Regulus. How long have you been here?" Merlin smiled and shook his hand. The name sounded kind of familiar, but he couldn't place why. He shrugged it off as nothing though. People came and went all the time. Maybe Regulus had been here before.

"It takes a bit of getting use to, but this place isn't all bad. Most of the time. People have all kinds of magic here. I like the science though too. The things we didn't have in Camelot." Merlin still loved all the technology this place had to offer. Of course, it wasn't as awe inspiring as it first was, but Merlin still got a kick out of a lot of it. Computers and cars were almost as impressive as other sort of magics.

Regulus resisted the urge to grin stupidly at Merlin over the fact that he'd just been allowed to touch the greatest wizard who ever lived. Decorum was drilled in him enough that he kept the excitement to a pleasant smile.

"Four days, or three, I arrived Friday? That wasn't pleasant. I was lucky someone named Al happened by, or I would have been an undead snack, again - and from what I've gathered, had to deal with waking up in that Library again with little to know more insight gained from the whole thing." Which was odd for Regulus to consider, before arrival he'd been accepting of death, but now... maybe it was the fact that people didn't seem to die, really here, they just disappeared for a while and then popped back up later in that Library, trying to complete the suicide he'd attempted before arriving just seems pointless now.

"What do you mean all kinds of magic - isn't it all the same - I mean, unless you're talking about humans verses house elves, then that's different but don't all humans have the same magic?"

"So I'm sure the basics of this place have been explained, and you've found your room, and all that then..." Merlin nodded a little about being snacks for the undead. It was definitely not the best way to show up here. Colligo was enough of a shock at first without being nearly killed immediately.

"Well, magic like yours and mine. Then some people can fly. I knew someone that could appear and heal with orbs of white lights. A girl who can tell where a person is just by knowing their name..." He shrugged slightly. Maybe it wasn't all magic, but it was close enough as far as he was concerned.

"Eh, ownership of the room is a loose definition based on who you ask. Currently, despite residing in the rooms the last two days, I find I'm what you call transient in order to accommodate the room's 'owner'." Regulus was slightly torn on that whole issue, he was hurt his brother couldn't look past the years of hate and distrust that was fomented on both their parts - but then it was years of distrust and hate fomented on both their parts, so what did he expect. Plus, as the phrase went, his former affiliation being what it was he didn't have a leg to stand on in any argument against Sirius.

"Huh, that is interesting," and it was, Regulus was very interested to know more about this, he liked cataloging facts and piecing things together.

"Not a friendly room mate then. That's bound to happen, I guess." Not that he'd had that problem. The room mates he had were friendly enough while they were around, but he hadn't had one in a long while. Of course, he'd noticed that people were usually well placed. It wasn't often that people complained about who they were staying with, and usually they even knew the people they were placed with.

"There are other empty rooms in the buildings. I'm sure you could just claim one. I even have an empty room you're welcome to, if you need it." Merlin was always more then willing to help people out, and was probably more trusting then he ought to be sometimes.

"The people here are usually pretty happy to talk about it too. All you've got to do is ask. I keep notes on the types of magic mostly, since I sort of teach myself."

Regulus snorted a laugh, not friendly, it was funny - or Regulus was leaning heavily on that, funny, to just keep from thinking about it all in a deep sense. Introspection was not Regulus' best friends these last few years.

"Not friendly, ya, some people in certain circles would say that about Sirius, others say quite the opposite, always one extreme or the other with him." He held up his hands quickly, shaking off Merlin's offer, he couldn't impose that much. "I'm staying with a friend, it's fine, for now, until I irritate the shit out of him."

"You've notes? I'd like to see those." Regulus assumed Merlin's notes, riddled with the wizards interpretations and perceptions would be a fascinating read.

"Sirius?" He quirked a brow, and shook his head. "I'm sorry. I understand. You really are more then welcome to my extra room. I wouldn't wish that prat on anyone."

Merlin really felt bad for anyone who had to room with Sirius. Especially since Regulus seemed so much nicer. Finally the name clicked, and he beamed at the other male. "I know! I remember, you were here before! A while back. You're Severus' friend, right?"

Regulus was the one that hexed some girly hat on to Severus' head the last time the two of them had been here. Merlin hadn't spoken to him much, but he remembered because he'd offered to help charm him into a gown that wouldn't come off.

These were two very fascinating and interesting things and Regulus wasn't sure which to address first.

First, of course Sirius would manage to piss off the greatest wizard who ever lived. He would do it just to see what would happen, or that's what Regulus assumed, he really wanted to know what his brother did to elicit that sort of response in Merlin.

But then there was that other tidbit of information...

"Okay, hold that thought about my brother- I was here? Before?" That seemed a bit worrisome. Wouldn't he remember that? Wouldn't someone from back home notice?

"Your brother?" He repeated, but let the subject change to the last time Regulus was here. "It happens a lot. People leave, they come back. Sometimes they remember, other times they don't. I went back to Camelot for a while, then showed up here again. No one even realizes that you disappear back home because you go back from the same time you left and don't remember any of this."

Merlin wondered curiously if he would go back at the right age too. If he spent years here, it would be awkward to return home suddenly much older then when he left. Of course, that might explain the strange stories of him being so much older then Arthur.

"I didn't know you too well that time, but I recognize your name now."

"Ya, he's not thrilled about the connection either," Regulus shrugged and said dismissively about Merlin's question. This was basically a summation of their relationship since starting school.

Did this place ever stop with the weird and the surprises?

"I don't," he said shaking his head, brow knit together in confusion, "remember any of that."

"This place is a lot to handle."

"Sorry." He nodded slightly. It was definitely a lot. He didn't mean to overload Regulus with all of this so quickly. Colligo was like that when you first showed up.

"Do you want to sit? There's a chair and some tea in the back." Merlin suggested. The sorcerer motioned to the small door behind the counter where there was a stove and pair of plush chairs. It was packed with stacks of cardboard boxes too, since it was technically part of the stock room, but Merlin didn't mind.

"Don't worry about not remembering either. It's not unusual. I don't think you were here that long either..."

Regulus gave a half worried smile and laugh to the comment about not worrying.

"Sure, why not, I'm processing improbably things, I might as well have tea with Merlin." Regulus found it oddly funny to say that.

He didn't mind the confining quarters, so much, the tightness did remind him a tad bit of how the inferi had closed in around him, but he focused on the fact that these were boxes and not reanimated dead corpses.

"Okay, just lay it all out, what else should I know about this place?"

Merlin fixed them some tea, and sat down beside Regulus after pouring a cup for each of them. He also set out milk and honey, both of which he liked in his. He took a sip or two as he thought about the question. What else was there? People came and went. He'd been here once before. The experiments he supposed.

"Well, you saw the zombies. Things like that happen now and then. For a while we could only tell the truth. Last halloween we all turned into our costumes. It usually wears off in a week or so." That was the biggest thing really. The weird things they were all subjected to.

"Otherwise that's it. People come and go constantly. Sometimes people you think are dead...If anythings happens to you here, usually you end up right back in the library. Most of the time with no memory of what happened either." He'd been in Colligo long enough that he was mostly used to it all.

Well, at least now Regulus had confirmation of what he'd suspected about dying in this place. Attempting that again was off the table, Regulus supposed he should resign himself to the fact that from here on out he was alive and would keep being so until who knew when.

At least he had tea to get him through this. He didn't add anything to his tea but just sipped it, listening to Merlin.

"Crazy shit for about a week and then it leaves. Got it."

He leveled a look at Merlin, "Alright, you know my brother?" Now that his mind was full with stuff he didn't want to process yet he decided to move on to something that might actually be humorous.

Merlin rolled his eyes and nodded. "Yes. He showed up and immediately started calling Severus names, and generally being a jerk. We sort of got into it after that. Mostly harmless pranks, I guess. I had a box of fleas and leeches explode in his face, he messed around with the things it my shop."

Honestly, he did sort of enjoy their fights because it was good practice for his magic, and was a great distraction when he was upset. Not that it made Sirius any less of a jerk as far as Merlin was concerned.

"He's also really good friends with Morgana. I mean, I'm glad he's good to her, but I just - She gets in the middle of all our arguments if she finds out, and it gets her upset..."
