WHO: Sherlock Holmes & Jade
WHAT: Sherlock is being...Sherlock
WHERE: Colligo City Streets
WHEN: Sept. 22nd; Afternoon
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

It was utterly remarkable just how...unremarkable this city was. Sherlock had already committed most of the streets to memory, but if the city pattern hadn't been so exceedingly different, he could have easily have sworn he was in London, or Liverpool, or Glasgow, or any other large city anywhere on the planet that was in an English speaking country. And if you changed the signs to any foreign language, you could drop it into any other country as well. Sherlock had spent most of the morning searching for anything obvious that seemed out of place, and other than the huge forest ringing the outside of the city (which did not happen as a metropolis this big gradually edged off into smaller urban centers then suburbs and then into forested area) there weren't anything that Sherlock could pinpoint to mark this city as something odd.

And that was beginning to frustrate him to all ends. Clapping his portable magnifying glass back into its case, Sherlock huffed in frustration, blowing up some of his bangs off of his forehead as he pivoted on his heel on the sidewalk, eyes scanning the area to try and find anything else to look at, anything else that stood out, but even the people were dull, dull, DULL. And Sherlock was beginning to get quite sick of this. There hadn't even been a decent murder here yet, and he was growing stagnant.

There was only so much crap telly he could watch before going absolutely mad.

To be honest, Jade was a bit surprised he'd agreed. Then again, she was a stranger who had struck up a conversation and invited him out for coffee. In retrospect, she supposed it shouldn't have come as that big of a surprise that he was curious. Not that Jade thought there was very much about her to be curious of, but considering the source she figured he'd learn that for himself soon enough. For now, she was just going to enjoy the new company.

"Great," she replied sincerely, with a soft smile. Nodding in the direction they needed to go, she fell silent for a few moments. Once they were paced well enough that she didn't feel she was having to move at a snail's pace or jog in order to stay beside him, she glanced his way.

"You showed up when the library was turned into a train station, right?" she asked. It wasn't the most engaging of conversations but, then again, idle chatter rarely was. And while normally she wouldn't engage in it for that very reason, knowing when Sherlock had showed up would give her an idea of what sorts of things he would and wouldn't be aware of that had happened within the city.

Sherlock didn't really care to think back upon his arrival that had seemed perfectly normal and remember exactly how many things he had dismissed in order to think that there wasn't anything wrong with that situation at all, how his brain had, for a time, functioned on the same rudimentary level as the rest of humanity's. It was enough to make him internally cringe, but at the question, he found himself unable to prevent his mind from turning back over that time and answer sincerely, "Unfortunately, I did arrive when being relocated by train to somewhere which seemingly would have been across an ocean seemed a perfectly acceptable situation."

And yes, that was a bit of a pout in his voice as Sherlock extracted his phone from his pocket in order to let John know where he was going to be. After all, running out to investigate was different than going somewhere to get coffee...which was even more different than going with someone else. He probably should mention that so John was know that he was at least making an effort with people.

"And I would hope that you had a reason for asking such an inane question."

Jade snorted softly at his answer, then glanced his way when he began to text someone. Considering for a second, she gave a faint shrug and pulled out her own PDA. She figured Cas would get a kick out of hearing that she was having coffee with Sherlock Holmes. Yes, he - Cas, not Sherlock, obviously - was with Parker, but the guy could multitask. She sent her message then paused, head tilting a bit. She should probably let him know it was actually happening. And that she wasn't under the influence. Of anything.

Several quickly sent texts later, and Jade finished just in time to glance toward Sherlock as he spoke again. Her forehead furrowed a bit in thought. Finally she shrugged and answered honestly, "Well, you were talking about how boring it is here. It's hard to know what you have, and haven't, experienced if I don't know when you showed up. And I'm not so great with time, so if you'd told me a set number of weeks I probably wouldn't have had a clue. It seemed easier to ask that way."

Sliding her PDA back into her pocket, Jade turned her gaze up ahead to the cafe. It wasn't too busy, which was good. There were times when there were hardly any available seats, although admittedly that was typically during lunch and it was a bit later than that, now.

As they reached the doors she looked back to the man beside her. "I wasn't here too long before that, myself, by the way," she stated as she stepped inside the cafe. "But I've heard a few stories about some of the things that have gone on. I think we're both going to find this place a lot more interesting than we think it is, right now."

"The little amusements that seem to happen here do distract for a time, but they're drawn out for far too long," Sherlock said, his tone extremely matter-of-fact as he glanced sideways at Jade to quietly inspect her, take her in as she was. There were a lot of things one could tell from just a look, and there were quite a few more things that Sherlock Holmes could tell from just a look. "It would be more interesting if different things happened with more frequency," He said, expressing an opinion he was sure that nobody else held. Nobody but him...and perhaps Moriarty.

Sherlock followed her into the cafe, stepping up to the line to order and gesturing in a gentlemanly way for her to take the position in front of her. Not that it would matter, really, in the long run as it would only allow her perhaps an extra 3.5 seconds in her food return and even less so if she ordered something with more complexity than he did. But no matter. His mother had always told him to show some sort of manners when interacting with a lady, and he did try to follow what Mummy said. Most of the time.

After having ordered their food, Sherlock escorted her towards one of the tables and sit and wait to be called up. Depositing himself in the chair across from her, Sherlock propped his elbows on the table, resting his chin on them as he leaned forward, eyes flickering in a rather methodical pattern over her before he asked in a rather dull voice, "When did you stop using?"

He was right. Jade wasn't very interested in having weird things happen even more frequently than they already did. Yet she could understand why he wished that were the case. He had to be bored senseless once the newness wore off. Brow furrowing a little, she murmured, "Maybe it would be best for everyone if they happened more often." Did she really want it? No. Of course not. She rather enjoyed the tedium at times after the chaos she went through in Purgatory. However she would rather strange things happen to, and around, her every single day than think about the outcome of a bored Sherlock Holmes wandering the streets.

Ordering her food, Jade let him escort them to a table and took her seat. Her PDA weighed heavily in her pocket, the dim noise of the crowd around her somewhat grating on her nerves but at the same time helping to reassure her that they weren't alone. Yes it was primarily locals in the cafe but at least with them present Sherlock might not ask about...

Too late, her mind whispered when the man asked his question. She knew she really shouldn't have been surprised. Locals didn't have the same intrigue as everyone else, and none of them were wearing long sleeves in the midst of the final heatwave of the summer. Plus she was the one who had invited him along, so it made sense he'd take notice of her. Which is why Jade saw no reason not to meet his gaze. Lying wasn't an option currently but, even if it were, she wouldn't have felt the urge to do so. She wasn't ashamed of her habit. Maybe a little embarrassed - although that was more due to the fact that she couldn't seem to just stop on her own - but certainly not ashamed. It was as much of a part of her as anything else was, by now.

Casually, she glanced at the clock on the wall before meeting Sherlock's gaze without flinching. "Two days, four hours, and approximately fifty-two minutes," she answered simply. The corners of her mouth quirked upward. "If you don't count the absinthe. Which, I don't."

Well, then. He had been right, then. Sherlock knew the signs and symptoms of withdrawal like he knew the back of his own hand. He also knew the tendencies of individuals with drugs habits that they needed to cover up. There was a reason, after all, that he more often than not wore long sleeves. It was a habit from years of having to mask the track marks in his arms that he'd never fully broken. After all, long sleeves could always be rolled up, so he had never really seen any point in investing in short sleeves when he'd finally been able to break through his habits.

Sherlock smile mirrored Jade's at the mention of absinthe, a soft chuckle issuing from the back of his throat, "Some indulgences must be taken, to make the others easier to bear," He said. "I'm about four years out. Well, four years out from serious issues. The smaller ones tend to crop up occasionally."

A bit of LSD one frighteningly dull, dull, dull summer day and some powered cocaine during Christmastide that Mummy had insisted he attend all twelve days of. Twelve days trapped in the house with his family had been far more than his senses had been able to stand on their own.

Truthfully, Jade didn't like discussing how she'd wound up hooked on drugs. The fact that it had been against her will, as a means for Sammael to control her, was all but humiliating. The fact that she hadn't put up half as much of a fight in the beginning as she probably should have only made it that much worse. However, now that the subject had been brought up, she felt the beginnings of a compulsion to simply spill everything.

Biting in the inside of her cheek until she could taste blood, Jade managed to stave off the confession for a few seconds longer. Although that was likely only due to what she said in lieu of such an admission.

"I haven't even been human for four years."

Okay. Not exactly the best thing to necessarily say to someone but at least it made for a good conversation piece. And it was better than telling the tale of how she came to be human. Which, in retrospect, she realized she probably was going to have to tell anyway. But at least this way she had a few moments of saving grace.

Sherlock had expected a lot of things to be said. There were only so many reactions that someone could have to a statement like that, but that was not one of the reactions that he could have predicted. In fact, it was a much more interesting one. A slow, delicate raise of his eyebrow as he stared across the table at her softened into a look of pure interest as he leaned forward on the table, propping his chin on his folded hands and uttered three very simple words.

"You don't say."

There was something about the way that he became instantly curious that was almost endearing. She would have thought it would be annoying. She always did hate feeling like some sort of sideshow freak for having once been something other than human. However with Sherlock, she didn't take insult so much as find it a touch amusing. Likely due to the fact that she doubted there was much that could make him so interested so quickly.

She wasn't one to keep him waiting for long for an answer, though. Dragging it out seemed unnecessary so she simply nodded and smiled lightly. "I was an angel. Archangel, to be exact," she said simply. Her eyes sparkled for a moment as she had a rare reflection of fondness for her previous existence. "Amitiel. The Angel of Truth, ironically enough."

Blinking, Jade's expression froze and she shifted a little in her chair as she glanced toward the table. "It feels like an eternity ago," she murmured before glancing back up at him. "But it's only been two years."
