Who: The Tenth Doctor and Merlin
What: A meeting
When: Just after they introduced themselves via PDA
Where: The Tardis, in the park.
Rating: TBA

Dressed in blue pinstripes, the Doctor spread his coat out over the emerald grass, stretching his long legs before him and sitting down. He settled on top of the worn item of clothing, his back against the blue wood of the TARDIS. He could feel the energy pulsing through her, rippling through the wood. She wanted to get moving as much as he did, was just a frustrated by whatever it was that was stopping them. The Doctor couldn't remember the last time he'd spent so long in one place. He couldn't even move the blue box into another area of the city. She was just... stuck. It was as if an invisible hand was holding her down.

There was a strange whooshing sound from somewhere inside the machine, and the Doctor reached behind him to run his fingers down the painted wood, hushing his ship as one would a startled animal. He needed to figure this out... Both of him did. He didn't know when his next regeneration would return, but for the moment he was on his own, guarding a broken ship. Still, there were worse places to be stuck...

He peered out over the park, watching the colours shift in the park. The pale blue of the sky, the vivid green of the foliage and the earthy browns. He had to admit, whoever had made this synthetic world had some talent. The place was beautiful</i. And the people here... The incredible, legendary people... It made him shiver to think of it. It was incredible, but at the same time he knew he shouldn't be so impressed. They shouldn't be here. None of them should. It was all... wrong. Beautifully wrong.

His eye caught on a lone figure moving over the grass, and large, dark eyes stared in a way that was almost rude. If he wasn't mistaking, that young man was approaching him... That was strange. Why was he doing that?

Merlin smiled proudly, appreciating the reaction, but was quickly distracted by the sonic screwdriver. The jacket leaned in as Merlin did the same, getting a closer look at the tool the whirred and glowed like the console did. "Magic. I don't know. I've just always been able to."

The coat folded itself back up, and rested on the nearby chair. He'd never really thought about how or where the magic came from. He'd pieced together things he'd heard in passing about the old religion, things about nature, and - He didn't know. "You can travel in space and time you said...You've never seen magic?"

"I've seen things people call magic," the Doctor frowned, staring as the item of clothing folded itself and settled neatly on one of the chairs. "It's normally something else. Alien technology or something far away shifting things. Something people don't understand. But this..."

He spun to Merlin, turning the screwdriver instead on the young man, pointed neatly between his eyes. There was a moment when the high pitched whir sounded, then he was checking the display, tapping his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he thought. "I don't understand this." he added. "And I understand everything."

The TARDIS made a sudden whine, and the lanky man turned to stare at the console, before rolling his eyes, slipping the screwdriver back in his pocket and returning to Merlin. "Do you want a drink?" he offered, as if suddenly remembering he had a guest. "Ignore the noise. Somethings bothering her, holding her down. I just can't work out what..."

"I don't understand it really either if it makes you feel better." He said, going a bit cross-eyed trying to stare at the screwdriver pointed at him, leaning back away from it just a bit as it started whirring again. Merlin wondered what exactly the device was supposed to be doing because he didn't feel any thing different, and then it was gone like the Doctor just decided to be interested in something else because Merlin was too complicated.

"No, I'm okay. Thank you." Merlin looked back to the console when the timelord talked about the TARDIS again. "Why do you keep saying her? Is it alive?" He asked, setting his hands on side of the console, wondering if it was some sort of magic that was stopping him from using the TARDIS. If he didn't understand magic, and couldn't figure out what was stopping him, then it made sense that maybe some sort of magic was the cause, right? Not that Merlin would know too much more about it, but he might be able to find a way to check.

The thing about Merlin's magic - a lot of it was based on feelings and thoughts. It was how he'd first discovered it, by focusing on things and making them move. So when he'd thought about something 'holding her down', if magic could make it move, his eyes bled gold again. To anyone outside the blue box would lift barely and inch, shudder, and drop again. It wasn't time and space by any means, he couldn't manage that, just levitating the box like he'd done with the coat - sort of. By the gods it was exhausting though, must've had something to do with the whole bigger on the inside thing.

"Sorry, I -" He'd stopped and tripped backwards from the console. "I thought if magic was keeping it down - Didn't mean to do that though. Sorry." Merlin apologized, looking sheepishly around to make sure he hadn't shaken anything out of place, his hands clasped firmly behind his back.

The Doctor wasn't really paying attention when Merlin's eyes burnt gold for the second time in five minutes. He started to pay a bit more attention when the TARDIS lifted itself, probably not by much when you looked at the outside, but enough to cause a sizable jolt from the inside. The Doctor yelped, one hand flying out to catch onto the edge of the console.

Almost as soon as it was over the Doctor was flying back around the console, flicking switches and pulling levers. He reached out, tugging a screen down from above and examining it as it flickered then died again. The TARDIS itself seemed to increase its noise, rising to a deafening pitch for a split second before becoming quiet.

As Merlin stepped back to the console, apologizing, the Doctor clicked his tongue thoughtfully and ran a hand tenderly over the machine's controls. "What is it?" he asked gently, addressing the TARDIS. "What's wrong?"

"Well..." he stepped back, glancing to Merlin and pushing his glasses higher back onto the bridge of his nose. "It's further than we've ever got these last few weeks... So you don't think it's your kind of... of magic?"

Merlin jumped at the high pitched noise the TARDIS had made. Between that and the way the Doctor reacted, petting and apologizing to the ship, Merlin felt suddenly a lot more guilty - like he'd kicked a puppy, or something equally horrible. "I didn't mean to hurt it - her? I'm really sorry."

He didn't know exactly why he was apologizing to a bunch of metal and glass knobs and glowing bits, but the Doctor treated it like a friend or something...Like a living thing at the very least, which ran the risk of that loud noise almost being like a scream. "I - I really don't know. It feels like magic, sort of. Not like anything I've come across before. I could be wrong though - I mean, I couldn't move it far, and under the console was like...It was strong."

Merlin rubbed the back of his neck. Describing magic, how it feels, trying to identify it wasn't easy. Merlin wasn't the most articulate of people either, which probably didn't help.

"Naaaaah!" The Doctor turned a beaming smile onto Merlin. "Tough old thing like the TARDIS? You didn't hurt her. Six hundred years old if she's a day, this thing." He rapped a hand once more on the console, a fond expression crossing his face. He'd been traveling in the TARDIS for over half his life, after all. He was sure that even the legendary, powerful Merlin would have a job damaging his precious ship. Though he mustn't jump to conclusions....

His smile wavered and fell as he listened to Merlin's somewhat babbled explanation. Not that it mattered. The Doctor did quite a good job of rambling himself, when it came down to it. He shook his head, hand absently lifting to massage the his neck, feeling both his pulse of both his hearts pounding steadily in his throat. "Someday," he pondered. "We'll figure this out. And then I'll take you back home, Merlin. If you'd like to go. I'd love to visit... Camelot!"

The last word was an overexcited shout, as if something had suddenly occurred to him, and then the Time Lord was bounding towards the young man. "Oooh! Camelot! Yes! Swords and Knights and Dragons! What's it like?"

"Oh good." Merlin quite liked just watching the Doctor. The man was so loud, and he didn't seem to stop moving or grinning. It was almost infectious. Merlin could hardly stop smiling either, even if he was a little nervous in the TARDIS, and with the way the Doctor kept jumping right in his face.

"It would be up to Arthur. Gwen and Morgana too." He couldn't leave them, and they were happy here for the most part. They would have to be sent home eventually, they were apparently an important part of history. Even if it was preferable here sometimes, with things not attacking them all the time.

"You could visit though, but you'd have the hide the TARDIS and that thing in your pocket that makes the noise...Probably change too. Uther is very suspicious of anything like magic, and you would attract enough attention..." He said. Sorcerers, unicorns, and knights - The Doctor would probably attract more attention then any of that.

"Swords, knights - Only one dragon...It's nothing like this. I'm Arthur's servant so I look after him, make sure he isn't killed by all the things that come after him and Camelot. Things are lots easier here, not as much to do - not as much work, I mean. The castle though - It's much nicer then anything here, and I liked going to the top of the turrets at night." Camelot was home, problems aside.

"Huh." The Doctor settled back, leaning against one of the chairs with polite interest splashed over his features. "You're right. That's not like the stories at all... No round table?" He cocked his head a little curiously, hopefully, as if history would suddenly up and rearrange itself to his specifications. But then again, Merlin was only eighteen - he was quite sure the wizard lived for an unfeasibly long time (for a human). There was plenty of time...

"I'll visit anyway," he decided. "Though... I may not have this face. You might have another me arrive. We're all pretty much the same. Ish. Well.. not really." He bounced to sit on the chair, which spun a little pointlessly, gently turning the Doctor away from his new aquiantence so he stared to the door. The Time lord spun himself back. "Uther Pendragon's Arthur's Father, yes?" He thought for a moment, and you could almost see his brain working. "Why does he he not like magic? I bet it's helpful. Is that why you're a servant at the moment?"

"There are round tables." He was confused for a minute before remembering that bit of the stories. "Oh! No, not that table. There might be eventually, but Arthur isn't even King yet. Some parts of the stories are right. Maybe later when Arthur is king, Lancelot will be a knight, and they'll have a big round table." Already he knew Arthur and Gwen cared for each other, that Gwen liked Lancelot, that Morgana would become --

"I can show you around or Arthur could. If we remembered, that is. I didn't remember this place when I went home." It seemed weird that anyone could forget someone like the Doctor or his fantastic ship, but Merlin hadn't remembered any of this place until he came back. "Yes. He used magic to have Arthur, and his wife died in exchange. It's why I couldn't help Gwen with my magic. I don't think Uther really understood what would happen, but he's hated magic ever since. He decided it was something evil. I was rewarded with the job of Arthur's manservant when I saved his life, but it's not bad. It makes it easier to protect him, and he's a good friend when he's not being a prat."

"Everyone seems to say that." The Doctor mused. "That we don't remember when we return. Isn't that odd?" He clicked his tongue once against the roof of his mouth, settling back against the console to listen to the rest of whatever Merlin had to say. It was completely against everything he heard when it came to Arthurian legends, but he had found it wasn't worth him worrying. Nothing here seemed quite right...

"Must be nice to know things work out, though," he offered, finally crossing his arms over his narrow chest. "How is Guinevere? Gwen." He corrected himself. This was confusing.
