Who: Guy and Marian [closed]
When: Monday Morning
Where: The Grocer's
What: Guy and Marian bump into each other somewhere unexpected.

Guy was nervous. He had no idea what this new job would have in store for him, or what would be expected of him. Morgana had told him he'd need to find a job if he wanted to look after himself, but Guy was no stranger to having to work for his money. He just hoped working in this "grocery" would be better than working for Vaizey for all those years.

When he'd come in to applied for the job the sign in the window had been advertising, they had said he'd mostly be doing heavy lifting. Guy wasn't afraid of manual work. He was strong and it would make a change from fighting.

Taking a deep breath, he walked into the shop and looked around for the man he'd talked to before; the man who'd hired him.

Marian had an opposite reaction to the fact he was going to be working there as well. She was happy she would be seeing a familiar face nearly every day, and that she would be able to see Guy more often. She had promised Robin that she would be weary of him, and she had been, but she was not going to turn him away. In her memory, he had been kind to her, and her friend. He had tried to protect her from the Sherriff even after she had left him at the alter. "It is quite alright. It is a nice surprise." Though she knew Robin would not like it once he found this bit of information out.

She noticed he had been staring again, and only hoped his affections for her might lesson and become more out of friendship than something more as time went on. She didn't want him to be hurting because of her, but she couldn't be with him either, when she didn't love him, and loved Robin. "I am well. Have you started to adjust to all of this yet?" Her arms motioning around her to the electricity, the way the people were dressed, mostly everything.

Then she realized he may have needed to be in the office by a certain time. She was told that she needed to be on time for her shifts and that being late was frowned upon. "Did you need to go speak with him? I will still be here when you are finished." She smiled over at him, hoping this was not going to be awful for him.

A nice surprise? To see him? He kept forgetting she was from a time before she had a reason to hate him, or for him to hate himself. He tried to smile. It didn't quite work, but he was sure she got the idea.

"A little," he nodded in reply to her question. "I am staying two rooms along from Morgan Le Fey, from the legends. Except she is called Morgana in real life. She helped to show me around. She has been a great help." He knew he still sounded a little awed every time he spoke about any of the four legendary people he knew were here. He had not yet met King (or Prince as he was here) Arthur, the great magician Merlin, or the future Queen Guinevere. He was still excited to know that they all lived so close by, however. "She was the one that suggested I get a job."

Guy glanced back towards the office door before nodding. "Yes, I should go and see him." He took another look at Marian before turning and hurrying towards the door.

He wasn't in the office long. It was Guy's job to do all the heavy lifting, stacking the top shelves the shorter assistants had trouble reaching, and generally intimidating away thieves. Guy knew he could do that, and he left the office feeling much more relaxed than when he had gone in. He made his way back across to Marian. "So," he said with a little smirk. "Need anything lifted?"

Marian tilted her head to the side with a small smile as he described what he had been doing since he had arrived, and the people he had met and seemed to have befriended. She had spoken to Gwen, and Morgana, but that was about it. She had not met them as of yet, but they had seemed nice enough, and would quite possibly be very good for Guy. "That is wonderful." She looked up at him with a smile.

She nodded as he walked away from her and toward the office to go speak to Mike. He had seemed like a nice enough man to her, and he was going to pay her well for the work. She hoped he would do the same for Guy. When he came out of the office, and came back toward her as she had continued to arrange the fruits on the stand so they were in order and would not be bruised, she noticed he was a bit more relaxed. "No, I don't but you could help me get some more of these, oranges, I think they are called, out of the back. Maybe we could share one while we are back there. They are quite delicious." They have told me that I can sample the produce so I will be able to tell the customers which ones are good at the time." She then took a step away from the section and toward the doors to the back storage room. She turned back toward him to see if he was behind her, and smiled back at him.

Why was she doing this to him? Inviting him into the back room with her, sampling exotic fruits? She was a married woman. Didn't she realise just how much he'd missed her, or how often he'd dreamed of all he would do and say if only he got another chance? Keeping quiet and being good was almost killing him. Still, what could he do? If he wanted to survive here, he needed to work, and as far as he could tell, there weren't many places that would hire someone unskilled like him.

Taking a deep breath, he nodded and followed her, keeping his eyes on the ground. He was a big strong man; he could keep control of himself for a few minutes. He'd have to learn to do so if he was going to see her all the time. He wasn't going to give Robin anything else to hold against him. This place was a fresh start. He didn't want to be at war any more.

They walk back into the storage room to see a table and chairs for people taking breaks a couple of other men arranging the boxes the store had just got in that morning. She walked over to them and asked sweetly where they had put the produce, and the oranges, and they told her with a smile. They weren't the type of men that would smile often, but they couldn't help but do it when faced with a smile from Marian. She took our an orange and walked over to the table and chairs, seating herself and starting to peel the orange. She thought it was better peeled than cut into secions.

"Sit down, Guy." She motioned to a chair at the table, then once she had peeled the orange and pulled out a section, she offered it to him, patiently awaiting how he reacted to its taste.

Guy hovered by the door as she spoke to the other men. He was sure these were the people he would end up working with. They were big, like him, obviously employed for their carrying and stacking abilities. He should probably try to at least make the effort to be sociable towards them at some point, but right now, he was more interested in her.

Clearing his throat, he crossed to the table where she had sat down. For a moment he just stood, looking down at the orange in her hands before sitting down. He was glad there were other people in the room to keep him in check.

Marian noticed how cautious he was being. He could only assume that it had come from Robin's words to him that she had seen over the devices. She didn't quite understand it though, he had never been one to listen to Robin where they came from, but then she was from a much different time than he was.

She offered him the orange once more when she realized he had not seen her offer it. She wanted him to taste it. She would have to take some home to Robin at the end of the day. He had told her he would be looking for work himself while she was here. "Guy, take some. It is very good."

Guy eyed the little segment of orange in her hand. He had heard of the fruit before, but never tasted it. A little hesitantly, he reached out at took it. He raised it to his lips and gave it a little nibble. It was sweet, but bitter. He didn't like it very much. He pulled a face. "Do you want the rest?" he said, offering the nibbled segment back to her. He supposed he just liked the food he knew. There was nothing wrong with that. Morgana had shown him where to find food in the shop near their building. He would make do with that, and leave exotic fruit to Marian and her sense of adventure.

Marian shook her head as he offered it back to him. The look on his face told her that he clearly did not like it, so she took it back, setting it down on the table in frong of her as she ate the rest of the fruit. "Still, you should try much of this food. A lot of it is very interesting." She had been exposed to it before the time changed, and most of that had been because of the woman with whom she was rooming with, Buffy.

As she finished the orange, the small section he had eaten on still in front of her, she got up and took the peel and that section to the trash. "Alright, heavy lifter, Would you carry that out to where I was before?" She hoped he could get used to seeing her again after knowing that he had killed her himself. Even knowing that information, she still cared for him. She did not love him, but she wished him well.

Guy looked around the store room. Some of the food here looked completely alien to him. He had a feeling it would take him a little bit of time to even come around to the thought of trying most of it. Still, if he was going to be here for a long time like these others seemed to have been, then, in time, trying new things might become easier. For the time being, he'd stick to what he knew as far as possible.

Pushing himself up, he walked across to the crate she was indicating. It wasn't particularly heavy when he picked it up, but he was glad it was his job to carry it, not hers. "After you," he said, nodding towards the door.

Marian quietly smiled as she walked through the door in front of him and back toward where she had been arranging the oranges with the woman she had been answering to for the day. She was also very nice, and was very helpful in telling Marian what was needed of her and how to do it. She motioned for her to come over to her when they got into the area and Marian followed, motioning for Guy to put to oranges down where they needed to go. As her supervisor told her that socializing while on the job was not good and then told her to continue arranging the orange, Marian stood and nodded, making sure to tell her she would do what was needed of her.

When she went back over to the oranges, she started arranging them, and looked over to Guy. "Sorry about that, I need to be doing this."

Guy followed and set down the oranges beside her. He frowned. He hadn't meant to get her in trouble. He glanced at the other woman before looking back to Marian. "Do you need anything else?" he asked, motioning back towards the store room. He really just wanted to be able to get on with something so he didn't have to keep controlling himself around her. This was definitely going to be hard, working here with her, but he had to learn how to deal with it. He liked seeing her, and this was a perfect opportunity that Robin couldn't control.
