Billy walked to Penny's house, wringing his hands nervously all the way. He didn't want to do this, he really, really didn't.

But he was lying to her. And that was wrong, and not fair to her, and he was risking everything they had by keeping it from her.

Of course, telling her would risk everything too. But he knew telling her the truth would go down much better than her finding out another way.

He'd always wanted to use Dr Horrible to show her what he could do. But being with her had turned that upside down, because for some reason, she liked Billy. And now he was worried she wasn't going to like the other part of him.

He stood outside her door, taking several deep breaths before he knocked.

He gave her a nervous smile. "Hey."

He wished he had pockets so he could shove his hands in them. He tugged on the sleeve of his shirt, using that to stop his hands fidgeting nervously.

He blinked and took a deep breath.

"Uh, no I ... I need to talk to you," he said. "I have to tell you something. I should have told you before now, but- I didn't know how. And I kinda didn't want to tell you. I still don't, because I think when you hear it, you're not gonna like me anymore..."

He shook himself and glanced up at her. "Can we sit?" he asked, nervously.

	Her eyes widened when he spoke, suddenly feeling very nervous herself. "Sure," she said, walking over to the couch and sitting down. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

He sat beside her, then stood up again because he needed to be moving.

He paced a little, chewing his lip nervously.

"I just - I want you to know," he started, walking back over to the couch and sitting beside her. He looked her in the eye.

"Everything I said about how much I like you, and how I feel about you - all of that is true," he said. "I want you to remember that. And - that what you said about me being 'your Billy' - that's still true. It'll always be true."

His stomach was in knots. He couldn't do this.

	He swallowed, squeezing her hand and blinking. He took a deep breath. "I-" he started. He swallowed again. "I'm - I'm Dr Horrible," he forced himself to say, eyes flickering to her face to see her reaction. He'd never been this nervous about anything, ever. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

He'd been expecting that kind of reaction, but it still stung. He swallowed, balling his hands in his lap nervously.

"Um, I'm him," he said. "I wasn't sure how to tell you, at first, and I just-"

"That day back home, when we first talked, I didn't mean for you to get hurt. I just wanted the Wonderflonium. I had a remote control device for the van, and it was working fine, but he smashed it and I lost control. I stopped the van, too, but he'd already thrown you in the garbage. I never meant for anyone to get hurt, but especially not you. I just wanted the Wonderflonium."

He took a deep breath.

"For my freeze ray," he said. "It stops time."

He paused. "Oh. You mean why..."

He'd never really been asked that before. "I just... want to change the world. Make a difference. I mean, it's like I said that day when we first talked, it's the system that's broken, and it needs to be destroyed. And Dr Horrible, he's gonna do that. And then build it back up again, build it better."

	He stood up, looking over at her. "Well, no," he said, as if it was completely obvious. "Dr Horrible is - well, he's ... Better," he said. He wasn't sure how to explain it. "Billy - Billy's just this pathetic guy who nobody takes seriously. People are gonna take me seriously when I make it into the ELE." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

He swallowed, stepping closer to her. There were tears in her eyes, he'd done this to her. He felt his stomach clench.

"No, Penny, don't-" he started.

He sighed. "Back home, I was so sure you wouldn't ever notice me, I was gonna use Dr Horrible to get you to see me. I just - I didn't think you'd be interested in someone like me."

He looked down. "I'm so sorry," he said, quietly. "I should have told you this earlier. I really didn't want to hurt you..."

Billy swallowed, he felt ... Horrible. Really horrible.

"I'm sorry," he said again, looking down at his feet. "I'll - I'll go."

He headed towards the door, pausing to look back at her before he left.

He couldn't think of anything to say to make this better. She was hurting and it was because of him.

He swallowed, ignoring the dull ache in his chest, and walked out the door.
