Lucas finished setting the table and checked the turkey in the oven. It was almost done.

He walked over to Brooke and wrapped his arms around her, brushing his lips against hers.

"Merry Christmas," he murmured. "Thank you so much for the presents. You're amazing."

He pulled back and smiled at her.

"Rachel should be here soon. It must be nice for you, having her here," he said.

He checked on the turkey and then walked to the sink. He splashed some water on his face and took a few deep breaths. He needed to pull it together.

He'd never see Nathan and Haley again but if he couldn't come here, he'd never have gotten back with Brooke and they wouldn't be having a baby.

He smiled at that. Being with Brooke again was worth it. He loved her so much. Everything about her made him insanely happy.

He walked back out to the living room, determined to get over this funk. He was happy for Brooke that she had one of her best friends here.

He walked over to Brooke and draped his arm around her. "Well there, I have to disagree," he said, smiling at Brooke and nuzzling his nose against hers for a moment. He glanced at her stomach for a moment and smiled. He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

"Oh, I get it," she said. Rachel had just arrived here and she didn't expect anything back. "Don't worry about it. I just got you something small."

She handed her the present.

She looked at Lucas, smiling warmly and leaning against him. She ran a hand along his leg.

"Open it," she said to Rachel, grinning.

Taking it, Rachel opened it until she revealed a green scarf. "Brooke, this is gorgeous. Really. That fashion sense really works with you." Given, it worked well with her too... just in different ways. Brooke thought it through well, Rachel wore it well.

Looking at Lucas when he came up, Rachel caught the look between Brooke's face and stomach and rose an eyebrow. "Okay, there are only two gifts that are better than me. That's sex and a baby... which kind of go together... spill."

Lucas shivered a little when Brooke ran her hand along his leg.

He inwardly cursed himself for being so obvious.

He looked at Brooke, smiling at her before turning his attention to Rachel. "We're having a baby. Brooke' pregnant," he said, smiling wider.

"So I guess that makes it three amazing gifts for me. Brooke, sex and a baby."

Brooke smiled, happy she liked it. "Figured it'd keep you warm," she said.

She couldn't hold back her grin when Rachel mentioned a baby.

She giggled and leaned against him. "Yeah, it's been a pretty great Christmas," she agreed. "We just found out yesterday."

"Well, when you came to get me I was wondering how you got great boobs. I mean, damn." She grinned, shaking her head. Her best friend was pregnant with a Scott baby. Boy were those Scotts fertile. She was almost glad that she hooked up with Cooper instead... almost. Last thing she needed was a kid running around.

"So what's the plan for it? Gonna let it run around here or try to find a way to get back home?" Rachel was the curious type on occasion. But she never segued... she just barrelled right in like a bull going at the color red.

"It really has," he said, giving her a quick kiss.

He glanced at her boobs for a moment when Rachel mentioned them.

"She always had great boobs, now there's just... more of them," he said, eyes still on her boobs.

He dragged his eyes up to meet hers and grinned.

"We can't get back. But if it weren't for this place, well Brooke and I may not have gotten together again. So raising the baby here doesn't seem so bad."

Brooke laughed. "They are awesome, aren't they?" she agreed, staring down at her chest. "That's definitely my favourite side effect so far." Not that it was hard to beat morning sickness.

She nodded. "Yeah, I mean, ideally we'd be at home with everyone, but what can you do? We're here and we're together and we're having a baby... this is so much better than what I had back home," she said, with a small shrug.

"And he or she will have their Aunt Rachel here, too," she said, grinning widely.

Rachel wasn't surprised that Brooke liked it here better than she did in Tree Hill. Tree Hill was a town full of heartbreak. Rachel was honestly glad to be rid of it. She'd stay here, unless Brooke left and wanted her to come with her. If there was a way out of this place that was.

"Aunt Rachel?" Rachel asked with a raised eyebrow. "I don't know, Brooke. You... really don't want me around a kid. I mean, I'm the worst sort of person. I'd corrupt it. Kids don't like me. In fact, they generally hate me."

"Really awesome," he said, eyes resting on them again.

He smiled at her and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "I love you," he whispered against her ear.

"Hey, you're not the worst sort of person," he said to Rachel.

"I know this kid if going to love their Aunt Rachel."

Brooke squeezed Lucas' leg when he whispered in her ear.

Rachel put herself down and Brooke got why she did it, but Rachel meant a lot to her and she wanted her in her baby's life.

Brooke nodded in agreement when Lucas spoke. "You're not," she echoed.

"You're one of the best friends I've ever had, Rach. Of course I want my baby to know you."

There were reasons Rachel Gatina loved Brooke Davis as much as she did. And one of them was that the brunette catered to her often bruied self esteem. Even if Rachel acted like it was just fine and as big as ever. It was times like these that Rachel was grateful for Brooke. And Lucas wasn't so bad either.

"Well, don't say I didn't warn you," she replied with a shrug.

He kissed Brooke' cheek and stepped away.

"You'll be great," Brooke agreed. "And we won'T make you babysit if you don't want to. But I have a feeling he's gonna be so adorable it'll be impossible not to fall in love with him," she said, grinning. "I mean, it runs in the family. Look at Jamie."

Brooke smiled and linked her arm with Rachel as they walked to the table. It felt good to have her two best friends here.

"You seem awfully certain it's going to be a boy. It could be a little girl that gives him constant heart attacks because she takes after her mother," Rachel replied with a smirk.

Lucas was good for Brooke. And Brooke was good for Lucas. That was all that mattered. Together, they'd be great parents. She knew that too. It looked like things were finally working out for her best buddy, and the redhead couldn't be happier for her. Or for Lucas. They may not have been close, but everyone deserved happiness.

"But like I said, don't say I didn't warn you. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to babysit if I'm taking my clothes off every night?" She'd already told Brooke that she was a stripper now... Lucas might not know though.

"Yeah, Jamie is adorable," he said.

He chuckled at Rachel. "Well before Lily there wasn't a Scott girl in a long time. Keith.... He uh broke the cycle," he said.

He shifted uncomfortably at the mention of heart attacks. He hadn't thought about his HCM. It was genetic. There was a good chance the baby would have it too.

"He or she will be lucky to take after their mother, because she's amazing and kind and beautiful.

His eyes widened a little when she said she took her clothes off every night. It was nothing he hadn't seen before but he didn't know that that was what she'd been doing for a living.

Brooke smiled. A girl would be nice too.

"It might be, but there are a lot of boys in the Scott family," she agreed.

She spotted the look on his face and swallowed. She'd completely forgotten his heart condition. Her hand covered her stomach instinctively, and she tried her best not to worry.

She smiled at him. "Aw, thank you. But even I hope they're more like Daddy," she said.

She glanced between Lucas and Rachel, she hadn't mentioned Rachel's job to him.

Noticing the looks between the two of worry, Rachel raised an eyebrow and cocked her head to the side a little. "Okay, is there something I don't know about? I mean, I can't at least try to be decent and watch my mouth if I don't know what I said... you know?" The fact that Rachel was even trying to watch it for their sakes was enough of a testament to what Brooke meant to her.

"It's just, well you know that I have HCM. It's genetic, so there's a fifty fifty chance that the baby is going to have it too," he said.

He hated the idea of their child being sick because of him.

Rachel nodded. "Sorry. Forgot. I'm sure the kid will be fine. I mean, she'll probably take after her mother more than anything and then get her love of writing from her daddy, right?" she offered, trying to ease the situation.

"Yeah, it is," he said. But then if he'd never have had that heart attack he'd never have seen Keith again and he'd never have found out that Dan had killed Keith.

"And learn to play basketball too," he added, smiling slightly.

He placed his hand on Brooke' stomach.

"Isn't that right baby? Daddy is going to teach you how to play and you'll be shooting three pointers faster than you can walk," he said. He smiled at Brooke and kissed her nose.

"That's if Brooke doesn't turn the baby into a cheerleading fashion magnet first," the redhead chuckled, running a hand through her hair. But when Brooke mentioned food, Rachel grinned and nodded emphatically. Food was the whole reason she enjoyed the holidays... and the presents, of course.

"Or she," he said, smiling at Brooke. "My baby girl would learn how to play too."

"Yes, lets," he said, kissing Brooke's forehead before he walked over to the table. He sat down and served them all food.

He couldn't stop looking over at Brooke and smiling. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt this happy.
