WHO: Harry Potter and Lily Potter
WHERE: Harry's apartment, then Lily's, then we'll see.
WHEN: Sunday, late afternoon.
WHAT: Face to face meeting of mother and son.
Rating: TBD

It was snowing. It had been snowing for a few days now but the fact that it was still snowing brought a wide grin to the fourteen year olds face. Harry had learned three years ago that worse things could happen and even with the most seemingly innocent or trustworthy of things; nevertheless, he was wanting to see this snow as a good thing. He'd spent an inordinate amount of time sulking over the fact that Ron was gone and Hermione and Neville who'd barely been around were gone. Ginny was gone, and while it'd been awkward for a rather long time after he'd found out that they had children together in some future, and she was older ... she was still essentially Ginny. And he'd always gotten on well with her. She'd thrown his first birthday party. They'd tested out Quidditch equipment. They'd feared that Snape had been possessed by something when it turned out to be that he actually had a sense of humor (Harry, however, was still suspicious of potential possession). Of course he missed her. And Al. Was gone. Again. Rose was gone as well and while he hadn't gotten to know her personally, he liked her for the sheer fact that she was the daughter of two of the most important people in his young life. Not to mention her sense of humor was a combination of them both that came out in the most wicked fun way.

There was sulking. Lots and lots of sulking. Maybe something called brooding. He refused to talk or deal with anyone, rarely even checking his PDA. And simultaneously feeling a bit guilty about it. But wondering what was the point of even trying when everyone was going to leave anyway? Everyone always ended up leaving him. When he went back home, if he ever went back home, he would go back to a future where Sirius was dead. Remus was gone. Tonks who'd been there for even shorter a time than Hermione and Neville but had been nice enough, would be gone. Dumbledore gone. Even the fact Snape, who he still despised and likely always would despite what Luna insisted, would be gone and that seemed to bother him a tiny bit and that, in itself, did much to further darken his mood. There was also the fact that he would go back having gotten to know his mother --- which had just sort of made him pause. The conversation with Jim, unwillingly playing through his mind. He didn't know his mother.

Through all that had been going on since her arrival, he'd never managed to buck it up and actually find her. Which led to more thoughts that maybe it was better that way. Harry had spent days, just trying to convince himself of that. When it started snowing. Strangest of things. He didn't know why he hadn't expected it here. Maybe because the whether was always so good. It made him think of what California or something might be like. He hadn't thought of snow, since he'd-the England native, land of the drizzle-had been thinking how strange the warm weather was.

For some reason, it all brightened his mood the snow. Not right away. And not so far that he immediately knew that he would go and visit his mother; however, he worked up to it. And there he was. Knocking on her door. Hoping that she was home and hoping that she would forgive him for taking so long ... hell, hoping that she even wanted to see him.

Lily had simply been sitting in her living room reading a magazine and sipping on a cup of hot tea. This sudden weather change made her feel chilly all the time, but she didn't mind so much. She loved having an excuse to put on fluffy sweaters, boots, and to drink hot tea again. The weather had been so nice that she had felt resigned to iced drinks.

Her television remained mostly untouched. It wasn't dusty, but it might as well have been for all the times she used it. She was half afraid that she would turn it on one day and see one of those movies about her son's life. That would have disturbed her deeply. No matter what anyone said about how she needed to know the things in those books, she still wouldn't read them. It would be prying into her son's personal life. She was just overjoyed to know he had a personal life. That was all she needed to know, that he lived.

Her lips pursed when she heard a knock at the door. She wasn't expecting visitors. She doubted it was Severus. Their relationship still seemed strained. If he wanted something, he would have simply sent her a message on the PDA rather than walking down the hall to her door. Curious now, she got up off the chair and called, "Coming!" She dropped her magazine on the floor and made her way over to the door.

Upon opening the door, she was immediately struck by how much it looked like a young James standing in the hall. The little picture on the PDA didn't do him justice. It could only be one person. "Harry?" she asked, both expectant and confused. But after only a second, a smile broke across her face. "It's so good to see you! Please, please, come in," she offered, opening the door for him.

He didn't know what exactly kept him rooted to that spot, not moving when he heard her voice. Probably a bit of whatever kept him from ever running tail no matter how scared he got. And a lot of the fact, of after hearing her voice, that he just had to see her. There were no buts about it. He needed to meet her. So even as his hands began to perspire, Harry stayed rooted at the front of her door.

And when she opened the door? He didn't move. He just stood there and stared. He ... she was beautiful. She ... that was his mum. He knew that. He did. And he hadn't doubted it. However, talking to her on the PDA and meeting her in person were two completely different things. It took Harry while to process what she had said, and when she had, he gave her a sort of rueful smile, his eyes still trained on her. He didn't give into the temptation to hug her, not sure ... unsure how either of them would take it really.

It was difficult but he made it into the room without giving into it. "I hope ..." He cleared his throat. "Were you busy? I hope that I wasn't bothering you. I can come back another time if you were." Please say that you weren't, please say that you weren't busy.

He didn't want to go.

The urge to reach out and hug the other was not something felt only by Harry. Lily wanted badly to do the same, but also kept herself from doing it. This was a very strange situation and she wanted to tread carefully until she knew exactly what to expect and exactly what Harry was feeling in regards to it. She was more concerned with his well-being than her own at this point. It would break her heart if things didn't work out, but she was taking it slow for now in the hopes that they could come to terms with being here together and speaking with each other.

"Don't be silly, I wasn't busy at all. And even if I was, you're always welcome here, Harry." She offered him a smile, still barely managing to keep from flinging her arms around him. "Would you like some tea? I was just having some myself. It got chilly outside all of a sudden."

It felt a little awkward at first trying to chit chat about the weather, but they had to start somewhere didn't they? And small talk seemed like the way to go. No need to jump right into deep topics unless that was what Harry wanted to do.

Harry just nodded slightly, not exactly sure what else to do. He'd never had a situation quite this awkward before. Not even finding out about Al, which had the barrier of the PDAs to make things easier. What did he say? What did he do? The fourteen year old had never felt more like a useless lump in his life ... and seeing as he'd had Snape as a potions professor since first year, that was certainly saying something.

"Tea would be good." It'd been on the tip of his tongue to tell her that she didn't have to, but he'd been taken by the most ridiculous need to watch her making tea. Being in her element and doing things. Harry wanted to soak it all up while he had the chance. The mention of the change of weather brought a small smile on his face. "I'm hoping that it'll snow some more." He was pretty sure that between him and Sirius they could convince Remus into a snowball fight. And maybe, well, he'd invite his mum too and that'd be up to her.

Lily pushed the door shut behind them and began walking toward the kitchen, nodding her head in that direction as way of asking Harry to come along. The trip was quick. These rooms were quite nice, she would admit, but small. It was plenty for her, though. "I hope so too," she replied with a smile as she grabbed the tea kettle off the counter and put some more water into it. "I love snow. It just makes everything look... magical, if you'll pardon the pun." She put the kettle on the stove to heat up, then turned to rummage around in the cabinet for the tea bags.

Maybe this conversation would get out of the awkward stage soon, at least for awhile. She wanted Harry to be comfortable around her, even though the situation was so strange. She should have been closer to 35 in his life rather than in her early twenties. It wasn't really fair to him. Though, it wasn't fair for her to just not be there either. It was an awkward situation either way, so she figured she might as well try to make it as easy as possible.

Harry grinned, immediately, despite his nervousness. "I don't mind the pun." For one, she could joke as badly as she wanted and it was doubtful that he'd mind. And for another ... "I was thinking something like that." He ventured. "Not ... magical, exactly. Just that it seems to make everything ... better." He looked at her, feeling less hesitant but still awkward as he slid into a chair. "But magical works."

He watched as she moved around in the kitchen, trying not to give into the need to fidget, his hands in front of him as he thought that maybe it would be best to say something that would fill the sudden silence. "I'm probably going to have to get some snow boots soon." He said. Most dull topic ever, but she liked snow and he wanted to try and keep it in the theme that she enjoyed. Snow boots were one of the first thoughts that came to mind.

"Definitely better," Lily agreed with a nod. "Everything looks clean. It just sparkles." Not to mention that the sky wasn't always gray here like it seemed to be back home. It made the snow sparkle even more when the sun would peek out from behind the clouds. She dropped a tea bag into one of the mismatched mugs in the cabinet, then pulled out some honey, sugar, and cream, not sure what Harry liked in his tea. This simple thought struck her as very sad, not knowing what her own son liked in his tea. But at least now she could learn.

She sat the honey, sugar, and cream all on the table along with a spoon just as the kettle on the stove started to whistle. She pulled it off and poured the water into the mug with the tea bag, sitting it in front of Harry then sitting down in a chair across from him. "I could take you somewhere to get some boots sometime," she offered casually, giving him the opportunity to say yes or no without hurting her feelings. It would probably be weird to go shopping with her, but she wanted to offer anyway.
