COLLIGOWEEN '09 ➠ FUTURE-DATED TO THE 31st.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME BALL

The convention center was alive with activity tonight. The locals acted as if an event such as this happened every Halloween, prattling on in their corners and within their groups about the previous year's happenings, from costume winners to drama queens who had made near-scandalous scenes. There was punch and cookies, cakes and candies, and even a bar at the back that served alcoholic beverages to those of age. Within the convention center, all seemed right. Safe. Enjoyable.

But, down below...

Unknown to the residents of Colligo, one Ethan Rayne was currently hard at work in the basement of the building, setting up a spell he knew by heart. It hadn't gone according to plan last time he cast it, but he was confident it would go his way this time -- especially when his way was also The Collector's way.

He glanced impatiently at the clock. 7PM. The Collector said 11PM. In four hours, all hell would break lose in a symphony of chaos.

"Cinderella's leaving the ball a little early this year..."

MOD NOTE: This is the kick off to the ball! Sub-threads can be found within for your use. However, keep in mind that no one knows what Ethan is up to or that he's even in the city. Future-dated to allow people time to get threads going.

THE COSTUME SPELL IS NOT IN EFFECT YET. This is being done in order to give members time to game within the party prior to the spell being cast. When the spell is cast, a new sub-thread will be posted and members will be notified via the OOC comm. SPELL ACTIVATED!

Questions? Don't hesitate to contact one of the mods.

Max kind of hated herself for this.

It wasn't that she didn't like Halloween (though until taking Joshua trick or treating last year, she hadn't really ever celebrated it besides going and checking out people's costumes), but she'd never really seen the point in dressing up. Why she had decided this year would be the perfect time was beyond her, but it seemed like everyone was celebrating, and frankly, she was tired of wallowing alone in her room, so she'd decided "why not go out and have some fun?".

She just wished she'd been more creative with her costume. Granted, she'd cut the ears off the headpiece and attached them to a headband, but she still felt a little ridiculous.

Max felt a little better when she spotted Kirk in his costume (or lack thereof) and found herself a drink before walking up to him.

"If I'd known I could go in something a simple as a suit, I wouldn't have wasted money on a costume," she said, smiling wryly at him.

Kirk looked up from the drink he was nursing, pleasantly surprised to see a pretty face and a costume that wasn't as lavish and out there as some of the other ones he'd seen people who walked by wearing. Honestly, how those people could stand to be in some of those get-ups for more than a few minutes was beyond him. He fidgeted enough of as it is when he was in a dress uniform, let alone this suit, but he was pretty sure it was a hell of a lot comfortable than the Marie Antoinette gown someone in the distance was sporting.

"Don't dis it so soon," he said, "we match...sort of. Would be better if you were dressed as Selina and not Catwoman, since I'm Bruce Wayne."

Truthfully, Max didn't know much about Batman besides what Sketchy had tried to explain to her. She remembered catching one of the movies, but hadn't paid a whole lot of attention to it, so the names of the hero's and villain's alter-egos had escaped her.

"So Selina is Catwoman's mild-mannered alter-ego and Bruce is...Batman's?" she asked. She had a hunch, but wanted to make sure she was right. "Sorry, most pop culture references kinda go over my head."

Kirk nodded. "That's correct. With the more common perception of who's behind the mask. With DC Comics, you get those what-if universes where other people sometimes end up in the roles instead of Bruce and Selina." Like it's surprising that he's read a few comic books in his day. Pop culture references, being that they were part of history by his time, were kind of his thing.

"It's alright. If it helps, it's more history than pop culture to me. I'm Jim, by the way. Jim Kirk."

Max nodded to Jim, offering him a smile. "Max Guevara."

She pushed her hair off her shoulder (yes, she'd left it down - there might not have been anyone from her world there and thus, no need to worry about being exposed, but that didn't mean she shouldn't still be careful). "So, assuming you've been here longer than I have, what's good to drink?"

Whatever answer he had for her would go forgotten as the clock struck 11 o'clock and down below in the basement of the building, Ethan Rayne activated his spell. Kirk was suddenly blind to his surroundings as his mind faded and twisted and became something that it wasn't, as was the nature of this particular spell. Oddly enough, the question that Max had asked him before still registered in his mind as if this new (though, not necessarily improved) Jim Kirk had been the one sitting at this table all along.

In a voice that was pitched a bit deeper and a lot smoother than the one he usually spoke with, he answered: "It depends on what you're looking for, Mrs. Kyle. Something that'll do a quick trick or something to be savored?"

As the time switched over, Max felt a sudden change come over her, too. She already moved pretty fluidly, but now...now it was like the feline part of her had truly taken over.

A slow smile spread over her lips and she leaned in close.

"Ooh...that is a hard decision." Her voice also sounded a bit deeper, more throaty and seductive. "A quick trick gets the job done nicely enough, but it always feels so good when you stretch the pleasure out."

If he'd still been the man he was supposed to be, he would've questioned the sudden change in tone and probably suggested something other than alcohol out of thinking she sounded like she had quite enough in her already. As it were, Bruce Wayne didn't seem to mind that tone of voice or the words that it spoke. Such was demonstrated by the smile that spread across his face.

"So, which is it? Quick or stretched out?"

Max would probably have thought she was going into heat and run in the opposite direction if she'd been in her right mind. But she wasn't exactly Max Guevara anymore.

Selina tipped her head back, dissolving into giggles before bringing a hand to her mouth, shaking her head. After a moment, she calmed back down, enough to lean closer, putting a hand on his arm, a wicked smile still in place.

"I've got time. Make it stretched out."
