WHO; Angel & Cordelia Chase
WHERE; Building C, room #401
WHEN; daytime, backdated to shortly after Angel's arrival
RATING; TBA

Sunlight. He had pulled the curtains closed in the main room the moment he'd seen the light start to peek up over the other buildings. Thankfully he'd gotten inside the apartment he was assigned to before the sun had rose, having conveniently arrived at night. Whoever brought him here wanted him as alive as the undead could get, it seemed. For now, he wouldn't question it too much, for he was all too happy to be spared the fate of becoming a pile of dust on the street for some newcomer to step in when they came stumbling out of the library per the armored guard's so-called assistance.

What did bother him about this place was the clashing timelines. He still wasn't sure what to think about the version of Buffy that was here being from a point in time when she was was with him. Angel hadn't been with Buffy in years and though he'd be lying if he didn't say that he'd contemplated what it would be like to pick all that back up again, it wasn't the right Buffy -- and, more importantly, he didn't feel the urge to do so. It was something he'd left behind, something that ranked pretty low on his list of priorities in recent years and something he only made a fuss over due to this irrational need to constantly compete with Spike.

For now, he would simply do his best to avoid being in contact with her until he figured out what to say to her...something that was only made more difficult a task after he'd promised Dawn he'd talk to Buffy about being her sister, knowing that Buffy would more than likely trust his word. Not a day here and he was already knee-deep in quite the dilemma.

Tossing his jacket onto a chair and working the tie he'd had on, as he was yanked straight from a day at the office, and discarding that, too, Angel plopped down on the coach. Leaning forward, he rested his elbows on his knees and put his head in his hands. Whatever there was that could be done in this place would have to be put on hold, as the sun was out, but at least he had good company until it was dark out.

Very good company.

Cordelia wasn't sure what to think about the whole Buffy situation. Her own feelings for Angel aside, she knew that the Buffy that was here wasn't his Buffy. The only thing was, she was a Buffy. And a Buffy that was head over heels for him, no less.

Ultimately, though, Cordelia trusted Angel. She knew that he wouldn't make a decision without analyzing it, weighing it, cataloging it, and a handful of other things before even considering it. He wasn't going to risk Angelus. Not for her, Buffy, himself, anyone.

"You know, I never thought I'd miss the days of the dark-on-dark Johnny Cash vibe you had going on, but I think it's preferable to the suit," she commented as she stepped out of one of the bedrooms, letting the moment evaporate her confusing thoughts for the time being.

Cordelia paused a few feet away and studied him. "Definitely like it more than the suit," she stated with a precise nod before smiling brightly at him.

Angelus was something Angel would very much like to avoid. He still wasn't happy over allowing his soul to be ripped out in order to let Angelus out for something that he wasn't even really needed for. It made him wish he could blot out the parts of his memory that contained things he'd done as Angelus. Nearly killing Faith, all the things he did to Buffy and her friends. He would forever feel awful about what he did to Jenny Calendar. He didn't blame Giles for continuing to dislike him because of it. Angelus was the last thing Colligo needed.

Picking his head up, he rubbed at his eyes. "Unfortunately, there's a dress code I have to follow at the officer." A pause as he dropped his hands away and looked up to meet her gaze. "But this isn't Wolfram & Hart and I much prefer looking like The Man In Black as opposed to Wolfram & Hart's new golden boy."

Cordelia nodded. "Exactly. There's no Evil, Inc. here," she agreed. Which as far as she was concerned, was a very good thing indeed. Yes, it was a bit weird not having a common enemy after the firm had been a presence for so long, but it was a good sort of weird. Much better than the weird she'd felt at discovering Angel had become CEO of that very same firm.

"Though I bet there are people to help. Baddies to stop. Who knows? This could be a new start for all of us," she ventured, refusing to let Wolfram & Hart, or Colligo, or anything else deter her good mood. Granted she knew without visions it would be difficult to help people, but it was possible.

And now that Angel was here, it was just a matter of time before she had a vision anyway. She was sure of it.

Talk of baddies to stop and people to help made pause in thought before asking, "Have you had any visions here?" After all, if they were back to doing the old helping the helpless gig, wouldn't the Powers That Be be sending her directions again? ...could the Powers even reach her here? No one seemed to have any connections with anywhere outside this place. If the PTBs could still talk to her, at least that would be some sign, albeit minor given the omnipotent nature of the PTBs, that there was a way out. They just had to find that tiny puncture of a hole and make it big enough to crawl through.

Cordelia gave a shake of her head as she moved to sit on the arm of the couch, next to where Angel sat. "Not yet," she stated simply before adding with a bit more confidence than she really felt, "but it's just a matter of time, now that you're here. I mean, what good would it have done to send me a vision without my Champion around, right?"

And okay, so she knew that might not even be the reason for the significant lack of visions. However, she was trying to think positive, trying to be positive.

So rather than let either of them dwell on the no vision issue, Cordelia nudged him lightly. "So, since we're in agreement of no more suits, I say as soon as the sun goes down we go get you clothes that aren't, you know, a suit. Maybe even explore a little. Figure out the hot spots. All that wacky stuff we had to do when we first set up shop back in L.A. what feels like forever ago," she suggested.

"You think so?" He turned his head to look at her. Leave it to Cordelia to look on the brightside of things when he was being Mister Doom And Gloom. He'd missed that; having her around to brighten his moods when he got in the which was a not so small portion of the time where he was concerned.

Having her here was definitely an upside to being in this place.

"...shopping." Angel made a face -- only a slight grimace. "Shopping then patrolling or shopping after patrolling?"

Cordelia snorted softly. "Angel," she stated in a flat tone, with an arched brow and grin that lit up her entire face. "How many times do we have to go over this? I'm Cordelia. I don't think. I know."

Then she paused, eying him for a long moment as though she couldn't believe he'd just asked what he'd asked. "Seriously?" she replied finally. "Do you really think I'm going to let you go patrolling in whatever stylishly new outfits we get you?" She snorted.

"Please. You do remember me, right? I mean, I can see maybe saying shopping first so patrolling could be a reward, but no way am I letting you put perfectly good, new clothing at risk because you want to decapitate something in a really gross, manly sort of way."

He laughed, despite himself, and shook his head. "Cordy, I highly doubt there is anything for me to decapitate here. I asked around and there isn't demonic activity of any kind here, outside of demons who are victims of this place just like were are -- and they don't seem interested in taking over the city or blotting out the sun."

What he wouldn't give for something like that now. It was child's play in comparison to what would come for what needed to be done with Wolfram & Hart, but it was something familiar, something he knew how to handle. Being in an alien city without use for a Champion of the PTBs outside of pulling kittens out of trees? He was a bit lost.

But, it could be worse. He could be back in hell.

"At least we're not in Pylea."

"Not true," Cordelia countered almost immediately. "When I first showed up, there was a fear demon running around. And the time I was here before that, the Gentlemen came to town." She gave him a pointed look. "So demonic stuff does happen here. It just isn't an everyday thing. But there's plenty of weird to go around."

She paused just long enough to draw a breath before adding, "I for one, however, am looking forward to a little R&R. It's not like we had a whole bunch of downtime in L.A. Who knows? It might be good for us."

And okay, so she doubted it would be good for too long. But for a few days, maybe a week or so? Yes. Cordelia could definitely handle the idea of not having to research anything, hunt anything, or save the world. It would be a change of pace, but it'd be a nice one at least.

"Oh!" she added, after his comment about Pylea. "Speaking of people we met while in Lorne's hometown. Wes did tell you about the plans he and Fred have made, right?"

The Gentlemen? Angel had left Sunnydale by the time such had occurred, but he was familiar with them. He'd read about them somewhere, sometime ago. With as much researching he and his team had done over the years, on top of what Angel had known prior to the move to LA, it wasn't too surprising that they'd heard of them. Maybe if he'd been here, he would've been able to help out with that -- but if whoever or whatever was in charge of this place was regulating the traffic of people coming in and out with reason, he'd held back the people who could've made a difference on purpose.

Clever.

"Downtime?" He laughed, despite the implications. "Yeah. We didn't see much of that, did we? Always fight after fight after apocalypse. Guess we do deserve a little vacation."

Not that he felt very deserving at the moment, but he was doing his best not to beat himself up over the Wolfram & Hart take over decision. She'd helped him realize that, he thought with a smile -- only for that smile to falter.

"He did. Not really sure what to think about that, to be honest."
