Whipped by winds til it was hard to stand, Angela struggled forward in the darkness, ignoring the sand that was beating against her face. Raising a hand to shield her eyes, Angela squinted through the sand before shifting her arm up when her hand proved not to be enough. Her stomach was turning, flopping at the setting that seemed to be laid out in front of her. It wasn't. It couldn't be. She dreamed of the future. Why was it showing her the past?

But here it was, Coyote Sands Relocation Camp spread out in front of her with only a little bit of decay, almost as though it had only been abandoned a few years prior instead of several decades. Stepping towards the assembled buildings, trying not to get sick at the sight, Angela took a few deep breaths as her eyes scanned the area, honing in on the one building that she knew she was more likely to spot whom she was supposed to.

Seeing the figure of her sister through the dust storm that had been whipped up to protect the outer rims of the camp, Angela stepped into the clear area that weaved in between the buildings, exhaling slowly as she took another step towards the figure of the younger girl who had stopped and turned to look at her. They stared like that for a long moment before the scenery warped, changing, and both were heaved from the desert camp into the library of Colligo.

NO! It's not safe!

The words echoed in her mind as Angela jerked awake, heart racing in her chest as she glanced around in the dark. It couldn't be. It wasn't... But it was.

"Alice?"

Noah had tried to be quiet when entering the apartment. He knew that his grandmother didn't sleep well, if she slept at all, and that there was always the chance no matter what time of day it might be that she was catching a few precious moments of rest. The last thing he wanted to do was disturb her.

So he'd entered as silently as he could and slid his keys into his pocket before they could rattle. He made his way quietly through the kitchen area, intending on heading through the living room to his bedroom. However halfway to his destination, he heard Angela speak. The name was an unfamiliar one and he paused, brow furrowing in confusion.

Alice? Who was Alice?

For a brief moment, Noah considered not worrying himself about it. However there was something about the tone of her voice, the way she said the name, that refused to let him just forget about it that easily. So with only the briefest hint of hesitation, he turned from his room and made his way to Angela. He hesitated in the doorway, watching her for a moment, before finally speaking in a low, yet still clearly concerned, tone.

"Hey. Is, um, everything okay?"

Was everything okay? Angela wasn't really sure. As always, her dreams were as vivid as ever, but this time... This time, Angela didn't dare hope that it meant what she thought that it did. Sitting up and looked up at Noah with wide eyes for a long moment, it took her awhile before moving to heave herself off of the bed.

"What's the weather like outside?" Angela asked, looking up at Noah with a slightly desperate curiosity before turning her attention to the windows instead, pulling back the curtains only to be greeted by a clear blue like always. Disappointment swelled in her chest as her shoulders sagged, hands gripping the windowsill before she sighed.

Is everything okay?

"Yeah. It's all fine, Noah," Angela said, shaking her head. "It was just a dream."

Noah had glanced toward the window but Angela beat him to it. Frowning lightly, brow furrowed, he looked back to her and couldn't help but notice the sagging of her shoulders or her sigh. Clearly, something was bothering her. And although Noah wasn't as adept at sniffing out a lie as others he knew, he didn't believe her claims for a second.

Stepping a bit further into the room, his lips turned upward a bit into the barest hints of a smile. There was no humor on his face, though, but rather his expression was a caring one. Faintly amused, perhaps, but definitely far more loving than anything else.

"Huh," he replied in a quiet, noncommittal tone. "Just a dream?" He glanced to the window himself before his gaze flickered back to her.

"And here I thought you didn't have just dreams."

"Sometimes, that's all they end up being," Angela said as she frowned out the window. "The future changes, and the visions don't matter." But this was hardly that situation. This was one of the small things, the stuff that was supposed to happen seconds later from the feel of it, but the sky was still clear, and there was no signs of the thunderstorm that would have marked her younger sister's emotional entrance to somewhere unfamiliar.

"And maybe this place is just throwing things off," Angela said as she looked over at Noah, offering him a little smile as she stepped away from the window and over to him, tapping him affectionately on the cheek. "I'm sorry if I worried you, dear. I'm sure it's nothing."

Noah still wasn't sure he believed her claims, at least not entirely. However, he did know better than to press the issue. If anyone would know if the dream was important or not, it'd be Angela after all. So instead he nodded, his smile growing a bit.

"Okay," he agreed easily enough. There was still a flicker of concern in his eyes but he pushed it aside for the time being. Studying her, he added, "And... sorry, if I disturbed you. I wasn't going to bother you but then I heard you speak and-"

He paused. He couldn't do this. Couldn't just pretend it was nothing when clearly it was something. He wasn't sure, honestly, how anyone could do such a thing. To act as though things were perfectly fine when they weren't simply wasn't a skill of his in the slightest.

With a heavy sigh, he fixed her with an inquisitive look. "Who is Alice?" he asked finally, searching her face for the truth since he wasn't sure if she'd say it out loud or not.

He'd heard that? Of course he'd heard that. This place was hardly a fortress, and she could hardly expect its walls to contain all of her secrets. Especially when she was going around blathering them whether it was by accident or not. Frowning softly as she looked up at Noah, a heavy burdensome look on her face before she turned away and looked back towards the window, crossing over to it and leaning heavily on the window sill, Angela sighed.

It had been hard enough to explain this to her sons and granddaughter, people who had only just started to understand the importance of keeping their identity a secret. Noah... Noah knew all too well what people were capable of with that sort of information.

"My sister," Angela said after a long pause, lifting her eyes back to the clear blue sky outside. This was going to be an interesting conversation indeed.

Her... sister? Noah blinked in vague shock, although the rest of his expression remained impassive. He let the words wash over him for a moment and purposefully tried not to react in any way. Finally he spoke, the corner of his mouth quirking up into a partial grin.

"So," he drawled after a minute, "just so we're clear. Are there any other random family members I should maybe know about?" Shaking his head in faint bemusement, the smile fell away as he sighed. His gaze slid to her.

"Do you want to talk about it? If not, this is one of those times I can probably mind my own business... for the time being, at least." He grinned faintly once more. Clearly he wasn't certain just how to handle this bit of information, but was determined not to make the situation worse.

Angela shook her head slowly as she kept her eyes locked on the sky for a long moment before glancing back over her shoulder, "My family died, in 1961," She said, biting the inside of her cheek. It was as painful each time that she thought about it as it had been when she'd first realized that night that she, Charles, Daniel, and Bob had been the only ones that had survived the massacre.

Only. Not the only ones.

Turning her gaze away from Noah again, she watched the clouds shift idly, her mind contemplating her next words before they came out in the simplest way that they could, "The government found out about us. They said they were going to help, give us counseling, medical treatments, anything that we needed to cope with what we were and what we could do. But they slaughtered us instead."

A brief silence settled before she continued.

"My father was the first one shot. He was just trying to protect my sister."

Noah's stomach tightened as she began to speak; a cold chill washed over him at her words. He stepped further into the room, closer to where Angela stood. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, subdued and somber. "That's... horrible."

His gaze moved past her, to the window she'd been staring out. Blue skies and white, fluffy clouds greeted his vision. "So you had a dream that... what? She was here?" he surmised, looking back to Angela.

"Do you really think it was just a dream?" Because he couldn't see how.

"I saw her," Angela said, frowning herself, "in the middle of the camp, alone, alive, trying to put together rations. And then...she was here, in the library, screaming about how she had to go back... How it wasn't safe," Angela said, dropping her voice as she felt it crack slightly, eyes still locked on the sky, willing it to change, hoping that it would show some sign of imperfection. When there was no change, Angela tore her eyes away, turning back to Noah as she blinked, trying to clear the tears from her eyes and the emotion from her face as she reached up and touched his cheek.

"I'm sure it was," Angela said quietly, with far more conviction than she actually felt. "If Alice was here, the sky would be..."

A clap of thunder sounded as Angela's eyes jerked back towards the window where it was rather suddenly overcast, the perfection gone and replaced by a violently brewing thunderstorm.

"...doing that."

Noah met Angela's gaze, wanting to believe her claims that it was just a dream but still not sure. He found it awfully coincidental.

Then it thundered.

He blinked at the sound, looking past his grandmother to the skies outside. Sure enough, they were clouding over quickly. He frowned ever so slightly before peering at the woman beside him. "She controls the weather?" he guessed before looking out the window once more.

"And she's definitely not happy about being here, if that's her," he added. Lightning was zig-zagging across the sky, illuminating its path of destruction. It certainly seemed to be primarily aimed in the direction of the Grand Library. Noah swallowed heavily.

"So... now what?" he questioned, already having decided one thing for himself. If Angela was determined to go out in that to look for her sister, she wasn't going alone.

"She was thirteen the last time I saw her," Angela said quietly, even though that wasn't completely the truth and yet completely the truth at the same time. "The weather was mostly controlled by her emotions, not her."

And whatever age she might be showing up here as, that didn't look like it had changed much. So there really was only one course of action, and Angela was determined to take it. "What now is that I find her and try and get her to calm down. If she keeps this up, the city will be leveled or flooded or buried," She said, shaking her head. "It all just depends on how upset she gets."

It really was no wonder to Angela why Alice had thought that she was dangerous to the world when things went haywire like this. But Alice was still her baby sister, no matter how much older Angela might be than her. Alice was still her little Aly-Cat, and she always would be. No matter... No matter how much Alice might hate her for what she did.

Noah didn't even blink at Angela's statement. If anything, her words made him even more secure in his decision. Without missing a beat, he met her gaze and stated quite simply, "We."

He glanced toward the window at a particularly loud clap of thunder. Noah then looked back to Angela with the smallest of smiles upon his face. An expression of determination far more than pleasure, though. He was going to join her for this impromptu reunion. His mind was more than made up.

"You're not going out there alone." He wasn't asking her for permission to tag along or suggesting someone go with her. She was not going alone. It was that simple to him. "Besides," he pointed out on the off chance she might be intending upon objecting, "I can stop her from wiping out half of the city, if it gets to that."

As much as Angela might have hated it, Noah had a point. He was the only one here that would be able to keep Alice from doing something that she'd hate herself for if she wasn't able to calm down. Frowning at Noah for a long moment, Angela sighed as her expression relaxed, and she shook her head slowly.

"All right. If you're tagging along, go and grab a jacket," Angela said as she turned back towards her closet and pulled the heaviest one out. "We're going to need them."

They'd be lucky if they didn't end up needing something to anchor them to the ground because of strong winds.
