Remember how she would go through those periods where she was almost nice? Like, as if something had almost clicked in her mind and she realized, I don't know, we were her children. It never lasted for long, of course, and then she was back to her usual self.

Sometimes you could see it happening, but sometimes it just caught you so unaware.

There really wasn't ever a discernible pattern to it.

So fucking messed up.
