Sirius? You're family, so I love you, but you're an insufferable prat!

1. You are neither my mother nor my father, so do not call me by my full name.

2. His name is Severus. I should hope you would be both intelligent enough to remember that, and mature enough not to use such childish insults. Unfortunately, I appear to be mistaken on that count.

3. If you're about to tell me he's a 'nasty, loathsome Slytherin', your intention must be to be hexed six ways to Sunday. Not only is Severus an admirable man and a brilliant potions master who deserves respect, he has been nothing but nice to me since I arrived. And if I were the sort to base my associations on antiquated and absurd House prejudices, I wouldn't even talk to my own brother. And I'm a Ravenclaw, so appealing to Gryffindor sentimentalities is really rather pointless.

4. Nobody tells me what to do or who to associate with. And nobody condescends to set me straight on anything.

I'm really glad we've had this talk, Sirius.

You're a person, not a 'sort'. And I'm not going to let a man who died more than a decade before I was even born decide who I associate with.

If I wanted my grandmother to help me, I would have asked her. I wanted it to be you. I mean...I've heard about you all my life and how brilliant you are...and then I got a chance to meet you and all of it was true. And you're much nicer than people say and...well...I was happy...to finally have someone I could call a friend who wasn't my brother or one of my cousins.

I know enough. I know you would rather push people away than risk actually caring, because it's easier. I know that you're a better person than people give you credit for, but you prefer to be unhappy because it means you're not leaving yourself open to be hurt by people.

I'll respect your decision, but it's wrong. And I'm sorry people have made you feel like that's a good way to live.

I never had a single doubt about your intelligence. No question that you're bloody brilliant.

~~Sniv~~ Severus was always fascinated by dark magic. he's just not someone to idolize, definitely not emulate. His hobbies got him into shitloads of trouble when we were younger, and that bloody well stands no matter what he chose to do later in life.

I was seventeen once too. I didn't think I could cock up then either, especially when it came to knowing who my friends were. Think we all know how bloody fucking wrong I was.
