( Sara seems to be mostly talking to herself )

All right...let's see. I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, in spite of the arguable evidence to the contrary...

( a pause )

And I'm not dreaming...

( another pause )

Follow the evidence. I just came out of some sort of library with walking suits of armor. Walking suits of armor that give out PDAs. There are two moons in the sky. The architecture looks fairly generic, with definite east coast influences, but still pretty generic. The people are unhelpful, but don't seem surprised by random strangers coming out of the library building...or by any of the rest of it...

( a sigh )

Yeah...I'm not really sure I want to know what the evidence is going to tell me here...

Despite what my brother would lead you to believe, there isn't really an obvious conclusion to make out of the available evidence.

Considering I don't know you or, most likely, the brother you're referring to, I'd really prefer useful information to vague comments.

The device you were given will have a map, details about where you will be staying, and information about the initial sum of money you're being provided. Beyond that, it depends upon the type of individual you are whether you will react better to everything all at once or finding things out a little at a time.

Which would you rather?

Thank you.

Go ahead and hit me with it. I'd rather just know than possibly miss something important.

You've been kidnapped to another planet, one in the Alpha Carinae sector of space, apparently, and we are all here as part of a living collection assembled by a presumably bored deity named Asaph who is apparently the younger brother of the Christian God. And I swear to you, I am not just making this up as I go. We are all pulled here from different times and realities, some of which are fictional for other individuals here, and there are many things that exist in this place that may not where you're from.

This place is called Colligo, and it'll be your home from now until the man in charges decides he doesn't want you around anymore.

Well, that's not what I was expecting to hear, but I believe you. For one thing, you don't sound like you're lying. For another, you wouldn't be able to come up with something that ridiculous on the fly, and it doesn't sound rehearsed. Plus if you were going to make something up, it would be less ridiculous.

Thank you for the information.

Oh, I'm certain I would make something that ridiculous up on the fly if I really tried, but the genius to a well placed lie is making it sound at all plausible. And really, there's no possible way to make this seem at all reasonable after someone's herded out of a library by two automated suits of armor.

My pleasure.

Exactly. A good lie needs to be simple and believable. It would be way too hard to keep track of all of those details if you were making it up. Anyone with sense would be able to poke holes in it.

I'm Sara Grissom.

Several. Even I couldn't keep track of as much insanity as happens here with any consistency if it wasn't the truth.

Sherlock Holmes. Pleasure.

I don't think I'll ever be quite used to people not being wholly exasperated by my existence. And you are right. I would have gotten around to introducing myself eventually, but I doubt it would have been any less of a shock since we likely would have went around about whether or not my parents were mystery fans or just eccentric first.

Why would I be exasperated by a genius detective?

You just told me fictional individuals exist here. It wouldn't be that far a stretch.

Because most people tend to be? Granted, I can't say I've said anything particularly exasperating as of yet. Though, my first statement did seem to garner a rather negative response.

That is true. Though, I must admit, it is still hard to think of myself as fictional.

Hey there, yourself.

[a pause]

Of course you would. As though you could leave me to my own devices for too long. Perish the thought.

[another pause]

This place really is incredible, although it takes some getting used to.

[yet another pause]

How far are you from the library?

Yeah. It's totally about not leaving you to your own devices. Nothing at all to do with wanting to see my husband. No, sir.

( a pause )

Miss me?

( another pause )

It is pretty incredible. I just hope I'm not going to have to drag you out of your own head.

( one more pause )

About three blocks east, assuming the relative position of this planet's sun is consistent with Earth's.

I naturally assumed that part of it. Although it's nice to have confirmation.

[he's clearly amused]

Of course I missed you. As though you have to ask. Now, stay put. I'll let Sherlock do the explaining while I'm on my way to see you in person.

Yes. As in Sherlock Holmes. His brother is the mayor, in fact.

Sara, remember to breathe. It's important.

Sherlock Holmes. The Sherlock Holmes. And...the mayor is...

( a long pause )

What the hell, Griss! You don't just spring that on someone. What's wrong with you?

( a sigh )

You are so lucky I love you, Mister. I ought to smack you for that.

[a pause; he's clearly trying very hard not to sound too amused]

I'm curious. How, exactly, does one go about easing someone into that sort of information? And wouldn't you have been more upset if I'd let you keep talking to him not knowing who he is?

[another pause]

I probably deserve to be smacked but that doesn't change the fact that I'm right.

( Sara sounds amused )

Probably something along the lines of not just leading with 'By the way, that's Sherlock Holmes and his brother is the mayor'. I don't know, Gil. I don't think I was making an idiot of myself with him, and he probably would have introduced himself eventually, so not knowing wasn't a big deal.

( a laugh )

I'm not so sure about that, dear. But if that's what you want to think... ( a pause ) Shit...

Your mother is going to kill us.

[a pause then he chuckles softly]

Breathe, Sara.

[a pause]

According to people who have left then returned, we're going to go back to exactly where we were the moment we left. She'll never even know we were gone. No one will.

[another pause]

And you could never make an idiot of yourself. Anyone who says you are, is lying.

Stop telling me to breathe. I'm breathing.

Well, that's good. I'm pretty sure she'd murder us if we missed that dinner.

( another pause )

That's really sweet.
