Accidental Voice Post
(There is the sound of a fight in progress; metal hitting metal combined with an occasional grunt of someone human. After a few seconds there is nothing but silence. The voice, when it speaks, is clearly laced with a thick German accent and decidedly feminine.)

I told you not to touch me. Leave now before I tear you apart once more.

(A few more sounds of metal clanging together before the telltale sound of the library doors swinging shut as the knights make their way back inside to the best of their ability. This time, the voice is much closer to the PDA and just slightly winded.)

I wonder what you do... (Random sounds of buttons being pressed before a clatter as the PDA is dropped again. The girl's voice is wary.)

How does it know my name? What sort of place is this?

Down the rabbit hole, dear Alice, where everything you know is wrong.

(There is a sharp intake of breath, a pause, then the sound of the PDA being picked back up again. Hanna's tone is even as she calmly begins to recite something clearly from memory.)

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, often referred to as Alice in Wonderland. Written in 1865 by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It's sequel is titled Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. It, too, tends to be shortened simply to Through the Looking-Glass. Both stories are works of the literary nonsense genre.

(A pause as she draws in a breath, her tone turning curious.)

I do not remember falling through any rabbit holes. How is it I came to be here?

Curious.

We've all been abducted by our host. Apparently we're all part of a collection of interesting and potentially unique individuals from everywhere. Or rather, a great number of places and time periods, at least. It's hard to say whether or not there's someone here from everywhere.

Do you need some help, my dear?

What do you find curious? Did I say something wrong?

(She hesitates.)

I am fine. I will adapt.

(Another pause.)

Where might I find a medical facility?

Not wrong. Just interesting. One doesn't normally expect the reaction to a statement such as the one I made to be the recitation of an encyclopedia entry.

[ grows quiet at the question and voice fades into a deeper concerned tone ]

There is a clinic not too far from the library. [Address]. The PDA map isn't really all the helpful, though. If you need someone to show you where to go, I would be willing.

What is the appropriate reaction to such a statement?

[She draws in a breath and pauses.]

I prefer to go alone. Thank you for your offer but I will find it.

Well, it depends on the individual. Some people would get scared. Others would tell me to stop being corny. My best friend would likely get irritated with me for misquoting literature. If reciting facts is what feels right to you, then that makes it as appropriate as any of the others.

[ a slight hint of hesitation in his voice, but he doesn't protest. ] If you think that's best.

I find the recitation of facts to be soothing.

[There is a few more seconds of silence.]

I am here. I will speak with you another time so I may speak with the medic in charge, now.

[And with that, she shuts off her PDA.]

Are you okay? I know it can be a really overwhelming when you first get here. This might help though. You should have a link now to an explanation I wrote up a while ago.

( Caroline is sending the link to Hanna's PDA. )

Do you need anything?

(Hanna pauses for a long moment, simply staring in puzzlement at the PDA.)

I do not know how to operate this device to see the... link which you have given me. I will learn.

(Another pause.)

No. I do not require anything at this time. Thank you.

( a pause while she tries to decide if she should just leave it at that. )

Are you sure you don't need help with anything? I really don't mind.

You have quite the impressive technique, if you don't mind my saying so.

( a brief pause )

This place is called Colligo. We have been brought here by a higher power called Asaph and there does not appear to be any way to leave.

Thank you. It seemed the most appropriate, given the circumstance.

(A pause as she takes the time to consider this.)

Asaph. Higher power. Is that similar to God? I never heard of such things until recently. (Another pause as something else occurs to her.) What reason would this Asaph have for bringing us here? I do not understand.

You are most welcome, my dear girl. I would quite like to see what you are capable of some time if that is all right with you.

( a pause, as he decides how best to respond to her questions )

It is, in a sense. Religion and faith are complicated things, but they are present in a more tangible sense in this city. As for why...it is hard to say. Some say that he is simply bored. Others that he finds our lives of interest for whatever reason. I suppose the only way to truly know would be to ask him, and even then only he can know if his answer is the truth.

Hanna. My name is Hanna.

[Her tone takes on a slightly confused sound.]

This Asaph makes little sense. If he finds our lives interesting he should not disrupt them. If he is bored he sound find a hobby that does not involve the collection of others.

John. John Druitt.

( he sounds ever so slightly amused )

You will find, my dear, that the actions of higher powers very rarely make sense in the grand scheme of things.

(She pauses. She recognize his name but isn't quite sure if she should acknowledge such a thing.)

Are you the John Druitt spoken of in history books or another who simply bears the same name?

(She doesn't comment on the information about higher powers aside from a noncommittal grunt of sorts to note that she heard him and has nothing really to say on the subject.)
