Hey, everyone!
There's still a couple days left to the Gremlin plot, which will be ending Friday night, but we decided to go ahead and let you know about the New Year plot, since you'll need to plan for it a bit.
At midnight on New Year's Eve, characters will be kissing people to ring in 2012. Unfortunately, they will be stuck with whoever it is they kiss for two weeks. Now, this may not sound like a big deal, since most people will be kissing their significant others, right? Wrong. As part of this, characters will be kissing someone near them, but it won't be their significant other. We won't be assigning partners for this plot, but there are some guidelines. In many ways this will be like the marriage plot, but without partners being assigned. Behind the cut, you will find the rules and guidelines for this plot. It will affect everyone in the city, except children for the obvious reason.
- Characters cannot be paired with their significant others for this plot. At all. Even Ruby and Sam, who are getting married on New Year's Eve, cannot be paired for the plot.
- Characters cannot be paired with anyone they live with. So flatmates can't be paired off, nobody in the X-Mansion can be paired with anyone else from there, etc.
- It doesn't have to be a complete stranger, but we do encourage you all to use this opportunity to branch out. And while we're not saying you can't pair your character with someone from their fandom (outside relationships and roommates), we would rather you paired up outside the character's fandom when you can.
- There will be plenty of public events for New Year's Eve (at Gabriel's club, Harvelle's Roadhouse, and the Casino for examples) if you're not sure how your characters can run into each other.
- Basically, this is going to work like the mistletoe, by way of compulsion. People will just feel a sudden urge to kiss someone at midnight, but not their significant other or anyone they live with.
- Apart from work, characters are not allowed to separate from the person they end up kissing. If they move more than fifty feet apart they will feel an intense sensation of pain that will get worse the longer they're apart and the farther they are apart. Even those who would not normally experience pain will do so, and it will be scaled to the pain tolerance of the individual. Both characters will feel this pain until they move closer together.
- Characters are required to share meals with their partner and sleep with them. This just means sleeping, but they do have to share a bed. Those characters that normally wouldn't eat or sleep will do so for this plot. If characters attempt to eat meals apart (purposefully going to separate rooms, for example) from their partner they will not be able to and they will feel sick. If they try to sleep apart (one in the bedroom, one on the sofa or on the bedroom floor), they will suffer from intense insomnia until they sleep together. If they persist, they will feel pain similar to when they separate.
- Couples will share a joint account, where their funds will be merged. This will sort itself out after the marriage is done, but for the duration of the plot, their funds are shared between them. This doesn't mean you can steal your partner's money if you don't like them (that's covered under the section on spousal abuse).
- NO CHEATING! Even if your character has a significant other in Colligo, they cannot be physically affectionate or intimate with them as this would be cheating on their partner. If they attempt to, they will be...unable to perform, to put it nicely. They will also feel pain, though in this instance their assigned spouse would not as they are not the one cheating. They will also be unable to enjoy themselves, as it were, even alone for the remainder of the plot if they do cheat.
- NO ABUSE! Even if your character absolutely despises their partner, they are not allowed to be physically violent with them. There will be harsh punishments for this. Seriously, folks. No attacking your partner. This includes financially harming your partner, so you can't empty the bank account to screw them over. The punishments for breaking rules will be decided by the mods and tailored to the situation.
- This plot affects anyone fifteen or older. If you are playing a character at the lower end of the age range, try to pair them with someone close to their age though. Ellen Harvelle and Noah Bennet do not need to be paired with Jeremy Gilbert and Renesmee Cullen.
- Children (in this case defined as anyone under fifteen), will not be affected by this. It is up to the players of parents and children as to who the children are staying with. They can go back and forth if the parents want.
- Feel free to use this post to discuss possibilities for pairing off your characters.
- Have fun.
This plot will begin at midnight on New Years Eve, and end at midnight on January 14. We hope you will have fun with it and that your characters will get a chance to meet new people.
