Characters: Rodney McKay and Carson Beckett
Day: Day Four
Time of day: Late morning
Location: Some grassy area with scary moving bushes!
Rating: PG-13
Status: Incomplete

Rodney’s head jerked to the side when he heard Carson’s outburst about his wee turtles. Shaking his head, he resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the other man’s dramatics. However, when Sheppard made his comment about turtle soup, Rodney found himself softly snorting. It was good for Beckett to get teased sometimes. Plus it was fun.

Turning his attention back to his tablet, Rodney punched in a few more things before looking toward the front of the jumper. This had to work. There was no way any of them were going to allow the SGC to blow up Atlantis because of a few Replicators. “The hack is finished and--.”

Before Rodney could finish his sentence, their was a burst of bright light. He shielded his eyes as he suddenly felt like he was falling from the sky. He tried to say something but the words wouldn’t come out. Suddenly, the feeling of falling stopped and he landed on the ground with a thud.

“Ow,” he muttered as he spit out a mouthful of grass.

Rodney lifted his head a bit and looked around. It looked like he was in the middle of a grassy field. Had Sheppard crashed the jumper? If so, then where were the rest of them?

Slowly he stood, looking down at the small scratches on his hand, before he looked around. “Elizabeth? John? Carson?” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Anyone?”

There was movement in one of the bushes so Rodney jerked his gun out of his thigh holster and pointed it. “I have a gun!” he said in a high pitched voice. What if it was Wraith coming out of the bushes? He needed to sound scarier. “And I know how to use it! I’ll shoot you if I have to!”

His hands were shaking but he still cocked his gun. Rodney wasn’t about to let some Wraith have him for lunch!

Carson was starting to get annoyed. He knew Rodney could be stubborn when he didn't believe something, but he had been there. So when Rodney stepped back, he crossed his arms and stared at him.

As he started to talk about about them coming from different realities.

"Wait...what?" he asked in confusion. "First off, my story isn't unbelievable! It did happen. Second off...different realities. You mean you're from several months ago and I'm from now...several months from now...whatever?"

He shook his head. "You really don't remember Lucius coming back or you almost dying when that ancient device altered your DNA or you getting in trouble over Geldar?" At lot of strange things had happened in the time that Carson had been with the expedition, but this beat all of them.

"So...if that's true, and we're from two different points in time...where the bloody hell are we?"

Rodney raised his eyebrows when Carson gave him a confused look. He had to remind himself Carson wasn't a real doctor, and he wouldn't understand what he was saying. "Yes...alternative...realities," he slowly said, hoping Carson got it the second time. He then nodded. "Yes. That's what "coming from different realities" means, Carson. If we came from the same then I would've said same reality."

For being so smart, Carson was kind of slow sometimes.

Rodney started to look around but stopped when Carson started to name off all the things from his reality. "What? I got in trouble for Geldar? Who told? It was Sheppard, wasn't it?!" he huffed as he crossed his arms over his chest. "First he complains about me cheating, which I wasn't, then he squeals on me? Jerk."

All thoughts of using Sheppard for a science experiment flew out the window when Carson asked his question. "I don't know but I guess we should probably look around and see if we can find anyone else," he said. He pulled out his gun and looked at Carson. "Stay behind me since I have a gun."

They started to walk, however when a stiff breeze blew through and caused some bushes rustle, Rodney jumped back and stood close to Carson. "What was that?" he whispered.

"I'm not a moron, Rodney. There's no reason to talk to me like I'm five," Carson huffed. "I haven't exactly been involved in something like this before. Aliens, yes. Mind transfers, yes. But not alternate realities."

Reaching up, he rubbed the back of his neck and sighed when Rodney started complaining about John Sheppard probably getting him into trouble over Geldar. He definitely wasn't from his time period. "No, Colonel Sheppard didn't get you in trouble," he told him. "It was a wee bit hard for Major Lorne's team to miss all the statues and pictures of you when they arrived through the Gate."

He knew, though, that what had happened in his reality had opposed to Rodney's weren't important. They needed to figure out where they were and maybe get home. So he nodded at the other man and fell into step behind him. At least until the wind picked up, scaring Rodney out of his wits.

"It was the wind, Rodney," he told him, pointing to the nearby bushes. "It made the leaves rustle." Shaking his head, he looked around, frowning when he noticed when looked to be a group of buildings in the distance. "What's that?"

Rodney narrowed his eyes at Carson and huffed a little. "It could have been a wild animal! I was just trying to protect you," he lied. Deep down Rodney knew he was hoping Carson would protect him from whatever was lurking in the bushes. Wind or not, one could never be too careful. Furrowing his brow, he turned around when Carson spoke.

"They look like buildings but nothing like we've seen in the Pegasus galaxy," Rodney said. "They look too modern." He glanced at Carson and shrugged. "Guess we walk that way." Rodney started to walk, not realizing how close he was to Carson. His feet tangled with Carson's and he fell against him.

Rodney stared at him for a moment before untangling himself. "Never knew you had clown feet, Carson," he muttered before looking away to hide his blush. "Lets go."

Carson looked at Rodney with raised eyebrows. He was trying to protect him? "Well...thank you, Rodney," he said, patting his arm. "I'm sure any wild animal would have been well and truly scared off."

He knew his words sounded a bit snarky, but he did mean them. As they looked over into the distance, he left his hand on the other man's arm, nodding. "You're right. They don't look like anything I recall seeing there. Actually...they look like Earth buildings."

He was about to take a step forward when suddenly, he felt Rodney stumbling against him. Reaching up, he grabbed hold of him and stopped both of them from falling over. He took a deep breath and looked into Rodney's eyes...just as he mentioned him having clown feet.

"My feet are not clownish," he muttered before pulling back. He nodded curtly. "Aye. We should go."

Taking a step to the side, he started walking toward the building.

"Could have fooled me," Rodney found himself muttering before they started to walk again. He was starting to wish he had a scanner on him so they would know if the area was populated or not. Rodney didn't take well to not knowing what he was walking into. Whatever this place was, he really hoped they had equipment for them to use.

As they walked, they came near a garden of yellow flowers. Rodney suddenly felt a tickle in his nose and sneezed. And sneezed. And sneezed. With a small whine, he looked at Carson. "I'm allergic to those flowers!" he complained before sneezing again.

When the tickle moved down to his throat, Rodney's eyes widened. "Oh god," he said as his heart started to race. He covered his neck with his hands and made a gurgling noise. "Carson! I can't breathe!" Of course he could but Rodney was about to have a full on panic attack. "I'm dying! Oh god! I wanted to be killed by something cool - like a Wraith or a drone. Not by a flower!"

Isabel turned to look at her brother, the wind whipping her hair in front of her face, "What happens now, Max?"

Her brother stared off into the sky, "I have to save my son..."

Then a bright white light enveloped her, making it impossible for her to see. She felt like she was falling even though she was "standing" upright; there was nothing beneath her feet. And then she was face down on the ground.

She called out for her brothers before she even opened her eyes, "Max? Michael?"

She opened them and saw that she wasn't on the ground, but on top of a luscious green bush.

A bush? Like this? In the desert?

Isabel looked around. She was no longer standing outside the caves of Roswell, New Mexico. She was in some sort of forest. And she was terrified. What had just happened? Did it have something to do with Tess? But she was gone...

She stood up in a panic, now yelling the names of her family and friends, "Max! Liz! Michael...."

Carson looked over at Rodney and sighed softly as they walked along. He knew that the other man didn't like being in situations where he either didn't know or couldn't figure out what was going on, and sometimes he wished he could help. Unfortunately, all he had on him was his headset.

His headset.

Reaching up, he tapped it but there was no connecting sound, which meant it wasn't working. He sighed. Wherever they were, it was far, far out of range of Atlantis.

Just then, Rodney started sneezing and pointing to the nearby garden of flowers. "It's all right, Rodney," he said. "Come on, let's move away."

Before he could steer Rodney away, he started hyperventilating, and Carson had dealt with enough allergy attacks in his lifetime to know that it wasn't the flowers that were causing this part of it.

"Rodney...Rodney...calm down," he told him. "Come on. Sit down. You're not dying. I'm not going to let you."

Rodney seemed to be getting worse, though, so Carson tugged him over and forced him down onto a rock. Just as he did, he heard someone yelling nearby.

"Hello?" he called out. "Hello? Over here! We need help! Please!" He turned back to Rodney, taking hold of his shoulders and looking into his eyes, trying to reassure him. "It's all right. Look at me, love. It's going to be okay."

Rodney squeezed his eyes shut and whimpered a little. His heart was pounding in his chest, and he was sure the poison from the yellow flower had moved to his heart. "I'm...having...a...heart...attack," he breathlessly said. He was going to die in some strange place! Rodney didn't want to die there!

He allowed Carson to sit him down on a rock. Looking up at him, Rodney wanted to tell him to tell Jeannie and the rest of them he died doing something noble. "Tell everyone I died while saving a small child from a fire," he pushed out just as someone started to yell. He looked over and saw the blonde.

"Carson! No! Don't talk to her! She's an angel and she's going to take me away!" Rodney's breathing became more ragged and he found himself staring up at Carson. "I'm going to die and..." He trailed off when what Carson said registered with him. Did he just call him 'love'? Dropping his hands to his lap, Rodney took a deep breath.

"Did you just call me 'love'?" he asked, ignoring the way his stomach flipped as he hoped he had heard him right. However, he realized he was getting his hopes up and took a defensive stance again. "If you did, then don't do it again. I'm not one your little nurses you charm on a daily basis." He then pointed at the blonde. "Go call her love."

Isabel ran towards the other voices and found two men, one of whom seemed to be having a panic attack. She could relate. She wanted to walk up to the men and ask if she could help, though Max was the healer of the group... God, Max...

She focused herself. She didn't know these men. She didn't know where she was or how she got there. This could have something to do with Kivar or Nicholas. This could be a trap. So she kept her distance, her right hand twitching at her side.

Isabel tried to steady her voice as she spoke, "Who..who are you? Did you bring me here? Where are my family and friends?" Slow down, she thought to herself, give them a chance to respond.

But her thoughts kept racing. Was she alone here? Or were the others just somewhere else? She knew it was a horrible thing to think, but she didn't want to be stranded..kidnapped...whatever it was, by herself. Max was her brother, her home. And Michael.... She had even grown close to Maria, and Liz, and Kyle... She wanted them, no, needed them with her.

But in the back of her mind, Isabel knew that she was the only one here.
