RP: Obscurus Books Presents
Date: 26 March 2003 (through early Thursday morning likely)
Characters: Everyone who'd like to come, plus various NPCs! Children Welcome! Add your tags!
Location: Obscurus Books & Cafe
Private/Public: Public as public can be!
Warnings: PG to start, if things get kinky, please use the subject line of the first comment to rate appropriately!
Summary: Just another day at Obscurus Books, until the storm hits and traps people inside.

Gareth looked around the bookshop with pride. Children were sitting enthralled by Marigold and her husband as they performed flashy magic tricks. Logan was hosting a small cooking class, teaching everyone from housewives to retired Unspeakables (though Gareth though it was highly unlikely that there were actually such a thing as retired Unspeakables) how to bake enchiladas. His Maddie was graciously signing copies of her latest best-seller Emerald Isle, and open mike poetry night would start in a half hour, followed by a rousing karaoke contest. All in all, Thursday was shaping up to be a wonderful, and profitable, night for Obscurus Books.

How in the world could Terry talk so much? It was something that, perhaps, baffled Roger a bit. While he could hold his own in a conversation, he didn't think he could talk half as much as Terry did always. But, nonetheless, he was hungry and Terry babbling on about food was fine by him. Especially if it meant that he got to eat real food.

"A sandwich would be great," Roger told Terry, "if you wanted to go grab that, I'll save this spot?" Because, really, he didn't feel like migrating... or even like getting up at all, and Roger had a tendency to be perfectly okay with getting other people to go get things, etc. He preferred it when he didn't have to.

Terry breathed a sigh of relief, getting food might actually give him a chance to get his thoughts together and stop babbling so much. "Right, I'll be right back," he said, and then on impulse leaned forward and brushed his lips quickly over Roger's, blushing as he stood up and headed towards the counter.

He ignored Logan's smirk and ordered two chicken sandwiches and an enchilada for them to share, along with two Butterbeers. "Not a word out of you," he warned Logan as he waited for the older man fix their dinner. "And can you do be a big favor and keep Mum and Dad occupied if it looks like either of them is thinking about coming over to say hi? I love them to death, but I'd rather not scare Roger away just yet, you know?"

Logan snorted, but agreed and Terry gave the man a brilliant smile. "Thanks, you're the best!" he said, and happily collected the tray and headed back to Roger. "Dinner is served," he said, reclaiming his place on the sofa. "Hope you like chicken, and I got us an enchilada to share. There's more if we really like them."

Roger, obviously, had no problem with Terry kissing him. He wasn't really a fan of public displays of affection, but the very small things weren't something he minded terribly. He liked the occasional kiss, or sliding his arm around someone. Of course, whilst drunk, he tended to be overly touchy-feely, especially towards dates, but while sober? It wasn't really his thing.

"All meat is good meat," he replied, with a grin, before picking up one of the sandwiches and digging in. Because, really? He was bleeding starved.

"And Logan's sandwiches are among the best," Terry said before picking up his own sandwich. He ate with a bit less enthusiasm than Roger did, but between the two men they made quick work of the sandwiches. Terry had never been much for conversation while actively eating, finding that ended too often in food sprayed everywhere, so he was glad when Roger seemed happy enough to just eat.

When they were done, Terry piled the plates on the tray and set it aside. He didn't bother bring it back to the counter, as he was comfortable right where he was and wasn't ready for any more of Logan's knowing grins just yet. "So, did that satisfy your appetite?"

"My appetite... for food? Yes," he replied, with a grin. It had filled him up, mostly, although he definitely COULD have eaten more. It was best if he didn't, however, as he didn't want to start getting a belly or anything. He rather liked being fit, rather than a slob like fatty. "My other appetite, of course, can wait for a while."

Because, of course, it wasn't something that he could satisfy in such a public place, really. Now, if he could just keep his mind out of the gutter for a good ten consecutive minutes...

Terry laughed and just barely held in a giggle when Roger talked about his other appetite. "That's probably for the best," Terry said coyly. "Otherwise we might find ourselves seperated by my over inquisitive mother." He looked around and was relieved to see that Maddie was occupied getting the first of the poets ready for their readings, and his father was talking with some of his old Curse Breaking mates, both of them too busy to come interfere in Terry's date.

"In hindsight it might not have been the best idea to stage a date at the family business, but I really wanted to be here tonight. Open mike poetry night is always interesting, and the karaoke contest is always fun and good for a laugh, and I thought you would enjoy it. Well, not that I really know what you'd like, as we've really only just met and aside from Quidditch, ice cream and odd animals I have no idea of your interests, but it's a good time to learn them, don't you think?"

Honestly, Roger was a bit on the relieved side that he hadn't had to meet Terry's parents. Not that it would've been a big deal, but... he'd never been a fan of meeting the family of those he'd been on dates with. He just preferred not to get tangled up in that sort of thing. It wasn't smart, led to more unnecessary attachments than he probably needed... Because, really, it was bad enough when he wound up having to disappoint one person, let alone their whole family. Not to say he was planning on that, but he wasn't exactly known for his ability to steadily date... anyone.

"Are you calling Snookums odd?" Roger raised his eyebrows, gaining a mock-offended expression at the idea that his precious little jarvey might be an oddball. "He's a perfectly normal, well-adapted individual... for a jarvey, anyway." Honestly, he loved the little bugger. Even if it did sprout insults. And only insults. Despite the insults, Snookums was rather cuddly and tended to sleep in Roger's bed quite frequently.

"So, we playing twenty questions now?" He added, teasingly, with a grin.

Terry snickered, though it was probably more like a giggle he thought, and shrugged playfully. "Well, as far as Jarveys go I suppose Snookums isn't so odd," he admitted. He'd quite liked the little creature the one time he'd met him, regardless of the insults.

"Twenty questions, that's a sort of drinking game isn't it?" he asked thoughtfully. "Though I think we can play without the drinking part. At least while we're in public, anyway." He leaned back and grinned playfully. "So, I asked one question, so I think that means it's your turn."

Roger had never really played twenty questions with drinking... He raised an eyebrow slightly, as he tried to remember an occasion where such might have happened. "You sure you're not thinking of 'I Never'? I can't say I've ever played twenty questions as a drinking game... while drunk, yes, but not as a means to get there." He shrugged a shoulder, his expression somewhere between confusion and amusement.

"So, you've got a kid. Any pets, though?"

Re: Roger & Terry

Terry blushed, but since Roger wasn't teasing maliciously he just grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, that's probably it," he said with a sheepish grin. "Twenty questions, I Never...is there much of a difference?" He was sure he'd played both before at various Ravenclaw parties over the years, though he'd never been exactly sure what they were playing, just followed along and gotten sloshed with his mates. Those had been good times.

He nodded at Roger's questions. "Yes, I've got a dog. A big shaggy sheepdog called Bob," he said, grinning fondly. "He's out back playing in the doggy center. My parents decided to put one in when it seemed that Bob the Dog was going to be as much a fixture here as the bookshelves. It sets Obscurus apart from other bookshops." Not that Obscurus could have been considered a normal bookstore even without the doggy center.

"Right, my turn then," he said, and bit his lip in thought. It seemed a good idea to keep the questions light hearted for now, so he settled for something easy. "What's your favorite sport besides Quidditch?"

Oh. He'd already met Bob the Dog. Bob had been present when he'd met Terry, after all, though it was a little odd to think of this Terry as the same Terry as the girl Terry. Perhaps that was why Bob had escaped his mind, when he thought he'd usually remember at least that much from a first encounter with someone.

"Huh. Not sure how I forgot about Bob," he commented, with a small shake of his head, before considering Terry's question. Favorite sport BESIDES Quidditch? Usually, favorite sport was an easy, easy question... but when you took out his favorite sport as an option... Hmm. "Football." A muggle sport, sure, but... it was an excellent game. "Worst date?" He asked, then added a moment later, "aside from the peanut butter toe-sucker."

Terry giggled, realizing that he'd forgotten that Roger had met Bob the dog as well. "Well, there were other things to remember about that day, besides dogs," Terry said, eyes flashing merrily. "I like football too, though I'm not very good. I usually just end up tripping over the ball. It's fun though, and good exercise which I really probably don't get enough of."

He busied himself with his drink as he though through all the really disastrous dates and tried to pick one that wouldn't scare Roger away. "Well, there was the time Logan set me up with a ventriloquist acquaintance of his. Muggle, though he had a sister who was a witch and a friend of Logan's, so knew about us," he said. "Um, he wanted to watch while I made out with his dummy." He bit his lip and blushed. "It was very strange and I think Logan did it on purpose, just to see my face when I told him about it."

He shuddered at the memory. "Okay, your turn. What was your worst date? Hopefully it will be as embarrassing as mine."

Merlin, how in the world had Terry gotten stuck with so many horrid dates in the past? He seemed to be filled with creepy, weird arsed bloke stories. He shook his head slightly at the tale, before realizing that it was his turn to come up with a bad date story. He'd had plenty, though the majority of his were not nearly as bad as Terry's. Roger had been pretty good in the past about... screening his dates, to a point, or at the very least kicking them out on their arse if they turned out to be not as attractive as he'd originally thought.

"I don't think I've ever had a date as bad as that, though I did go out with a girl once who wanted to use a ginormous strap on..." He shrugged a shoulder, not really able to think of another properly horrible date. "Best date, then?"

Terry cocked his head to the side, his confusion showing on his face at Roger's story. "A strap on what?" he asked, wrinkling his nose as he tried to figure it out. When it finally became clear he blushed a bright red and his eyes flew wide. "Oh! Oh, that's..." He was going to say embarrassing, but a part of him wondered just exactly how that would work...

When he got over his shock enough to realize that Roger had asked him a question, he shook his head. "Um, well...this one is shaping up quite nicely," he said quietly. "Maybe you could ask me again later this evening?"

"I think I could probably do that," Roger replied, with a slight grin. He'd found amusement in Terry's reaction to his description of one of his worse dates, but mostly just found it pleasing that Terry was liking their date at least that much. Not that he didn't expect, but, still... considering the bloke had stood him up once, he hadn't been sure what to expect.

It wasn't a normal occurrence, you know?

Terry ducked his head to try and hide the slight blush that was creeping up over his cheekbones, but he wasn't entirely certain he'd accomplished that. It didn't matter though, Roger didn't see off-put by Terry's blushing, so he counted that as a victory of sorts.

"Okay, next question," he said happily. "Do you have any siblings? I'm an only child myself and I always wondered what it might be like to grow up with a brother or sister, or both. It might have been nice to have someone to go on adventures with when I was younger, though I suppose I had my parents for that so it's not as if I was lacking anything instrumental in my childhood upbringing, and I've hijacked your question haven't it? I'll be quiet now so you can answer."

Roger laughed a little at the way Terry continued to babble despite having just asked him a question. Shaking his head slightly, in amusement, he shrugged. "I'm an only child too, so I wouldn't know what it's like either." Not that he really minded, for the most part, except for perhaps wishing he'd been able to get away with a bit more growing up. That might have been nice.

"Boxers or briefs?"

He gaped at Roger, at first unsure if he'd heard the question right. Could the other man really have just asked that? He blushed, and reminded himself to breathe. Well, two could play at that game, he decided, and before he knew what he was really doing he said, "Well, I suppose you'll just have to wait and find out someday, won't you?"

He grinned cheekily, and tried not to blush too much even though he moved slightly closer on the love seat. Not enough for anyone to really notice, and asked his next question. "Favorite book?" He thought that was far more important than what sort of underwear someone wore.

"I don't like to read," Roger replied, with a shrug of his shoulders. While yes, he'd been a Ravenclaw, he'd never been the terribly bookish sort. He didn't enjoy reading books, though he'd managed to study enough for alright marks in school. It just wasn't his sort of thing. "So, I haven't really got a favourite book."

Unless he went all the way back to being a small child, because he'd rather liked picture books. And comic books, too, but... that was about it. "Favorite snack?" He wasn't really going for deep questions, merely... making conversation, in a way.

For the second time in under five minutes Terry found himself unable to respond. All he could do was sit there and gape at Roger in what was probably a very unbecoming manner. He tried to wrap his mind around someone who didn't like to read, but he was coming up empty. He blinked a couple of times, trying to reconcile this new information with the knowledge he already possessed about Roger, so that he could stop with the dropped jaw act already.

"You...you don't like to read?" He was surprised at how faint his voice was, but really, what did Roger expect, admitting to a thing like that. "Isn't...isn't that like a crime against Ravenclaw nature or something?" He smiled a bit to show that he was teasing, mostly, except in the way he actually wasn't. "You really don't like to read?"

"Um, I like chocolate ice cream best I guess." He didn't really give much thought to the question, still hung up on Roger's surprising admission. Didn't like to read. Honestly.

"I really don't like to read," he replied, with a shrug. He never had, he likely never would. It just wasn't the sort of thing that he wanted to do, that he liked to do. He sort of laughed at the shock Terry was showing, however, since it wasn't that big of a deal in his opinion. Some people liked reading, others didn't. Roger just happened to be a part of the second half of that.

"It's not that big of a deal," he commented, with a laugh.

Terry knew he was acting like an idiot, he just had never expected that response from a Ravenclaw. Which, in thinking about it, was probably terribly stereotypical of him, which wasn't fair at all.

"I'm sorry, I didn't meant to be such an ass about it," he said, managing a smile. "It's just. I grew up in a bookstore. Almost everyone I know is something of a book addict. Even back in school, when we weren't reading textbooks or skivving off for Quidditch or football," Or Dumbledore's Army meetings he added in his head, "my mates and I were reading. Granted, it was often comic books that would cause our mother's--well not my mother actually, as she was the one sending them to us, but their mothers anyway--eyebrows to fly right off their faces. And, I guess this says a lot about how much I really don't get out much, I've never met anyone who didn't like to read. That I know of anyway."

He thought briefly of Linden and how they'd connected instantly over books, but pushed the thought away as it wasn't appropriate for the context, and really he had to stop comparing people to others. It wasn't fair to anyone involved. "All right, next question: do you like Muggle films?"

"That's kind of odd. I've met plenty of people who didn't like to read... Muggle films are excellent, though," Roger replied, with a grin. Perhaps he didn't like reading, but watching the telly? The telly was one of the best creation that muggles had come up with, in his opinion, and he (sometimes) spent far too much time watching it. When he actually had the free time to do so, that was.

"Favourite muggle film, then?" He asked, assuming that Terry did, indeed, watch them as well from his question.

Terry grinned, feeling his earlier shock at Roger's admission lessen somewhat. "Oh, I like all sorts, actually," he said grinning. "But my particular favorite is the Indiana Jones films." He grinned sheepishly. "They rather remind me of my childhood in a way, and Harrison Ford isn't at all unattractive to look at."

He reached for the last eclair and took a small bite. "What about you? Which is your favorite film?"
