RP: Obscurus Books Presents
Date: 26 March 2003 (through early Thursday morning likely)
Characters: Everyone who'd like to come, plus various NPCs! Children Welcome! Add your tags!
Location: Obscurus Books & Cafe
Private/Public: Public as public can be!
Warnings: PG to start, if things get kinky, please use the subject line of the first comment to rate appropriately!
Summary: Just another day at Obscurus Books, until the storm hits and traps people inside.

Gareth looked around the bookshop with pride. Children were sitting enthralled by Marigold and her husband as they performed flashy magic tricks. Logan was hosting a small cooking class, teaching everyone from housewives to retired Unspeakables (though Gareth though it was highly unlikely that there were actually such a thing as retired Unspeakables) how to bake enchiladas. His Maddie was graciously signing copies of her latest best-seller Emerald Isle, and open mike poetry night would start in a half hour, followed by a rousing karaoke contest. All in all, Thursday was shaping up to be a wonderful, and profitable, night for Obscurus Books.

Terry laughed and just barely held in a giggle when Roger talked about his other appetite. "That's probably for the best," Terry said coyly. "Otherwise we might find ourselves seperated by my over inquisitive mother." He looked around and was relieved to see that Maddie was occupied getting the first of the poets ready for their readings, and his father was talking with some of his old Curse Breaking mates, both of them too busy to come interfere in Terry's date.

"In hindsight it might not have been the best idea to stage a date at the family business, but I really wanted to be here tonight. Open mike poetry night is always interesting, and the karaoke contest is always fun and good for a laugh, and I thought you would enjoy it. Well, not that I really know what you'd like, as we've really only just met and aside from Quidditch, ice cream and odd animals I have no idea of your interests, but it's a good time to learn them, don't you think?"

Honestly, Roger was a bit on the relieved side that he hadn't had to meet Terry's parents. Not that it would've been a big deal, but... he'd never been a fan of meeting the family of those he'd been on dates with. He just preferred not to get tangled up in that sort of thing. It wasn't smart, led to more unnecessary attachments than he probably needed... Because, really, it was bad enough when he wound up having to disappoint one person, let alone their whole family. Not to say he was planning on that, but he wasn't exactly known for his ability to steadily date... anyone.

"Are you calling Snookums odd?" Roger raised his eyebrows, gaining a mock-offended expression at the idea that his precious little jarvey might be an oddball. "He's a perfectly normal, well-adapted individual... for a jarvey, anyway." Honestly, he loved the little bugger. Even if it did sprout insults. And only insults. Despite the insults, Snookums was rather cuddly and tended to sleep in Roger's bed quite frequently.

"So, we playing twenty questions now?" He added, teasingly, with a grin.

Terry snickered, though it was probably more like a giggle he thought, and shrugged playfully. "Well, as far as Jarveys go I suppose Snookums isn't so odd," he admitted. He'd quite liked the little creature the one time he'd met him, regardless of the insults.

"Twenty questions, that's a sort of drinking game isn't it?" he asked thoughtfully. "Though I think we can play without the drinking part. At least while we're in public, anyway." He leaned back and grinned playfully. "So, I asked one question, so I think that means it's your turn."

Roger had never really played twenty questions with drinking... He raised an eyebrow slightly, as he tried to remember an occasion where such might have happened. "You sure you're not thinking of 'I Never'? I can't say I've ever played twenty questions as a drinking game... while drunk, yes, but not as a means to get there." He shrugged a shoulder, his expression somewhere between confusion and amusement.

"So, you've got a kid. Any pets, though?"

Terry blushed, but since Roger wasn't teasing maliciously he just grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, that's probably it," he said with a sheepish grin. "Twenty questions, I Never...is there much of a difference?" He was sure he'd played both before at various Ravenclaw parties over the years, though he'd never been exactly sure what they were playing, just followed along and gotten sloshed with his mates. Those had been good times.

He nodded at Roger's questions. "Yes, I've got a dog. A big shaggy sheepdog called Bob," he said, grinning fondly. "He's out back playing in the doggy center. My parents decided to put one in when it seemed that Bob the Dog was going to be as much a fixture here as the bookshelves. It sets Obscurus apart from other bookshops." Not that Obscurus could have been considered a normal bookstore even without the doggy center.

"Right, my turn then," he said, and bit his lip in thought. It seemed a good idea to keep the questions light hearted for now, so he settled for something easy. "What's your favorite sport besides Quidditch?"

Oh. He'd already met Bob the Dog. Bob had been present when he'd met Terry, after all, though it was a little odd to think of this Terry as the same Terry as the girl Terry. Perhaps that was why Bob had escaped his mind, when he thought he'd usually remember at least that much from a first encounter with someone.

"Huh. Not sure how I forgot about Bob," he commented, with a small shake of his head, before considering Terry's question. Favorite sport BESIDES Quidditch? Usually, favorite sport was an easy, easy question... but when you took out his favorite sport as an option... Hmm. "Football." A muggle sport, sure, but... it was an excellent game. "Worst date?" He asked, then added a moment later, "aside from the peanut butter toe-sucker."

Terry giggled, realizing that he'd forgotten that Roger had met Bob the dog as well. "Well, there were other things to remember about that day, besides dogs," Terry said, eyes flashing merrily. "I like football too, though I'm not very good. I usually just end up tripping over the ball. It's fun though, and good exercise which I really probably don't get enough of."

He busied himself with his drink as he though through all the really disastrous dates and tried to pick one that wouldn't scare Roger away. "Well, there was the time Logan set me up with a ventriloquist acquaintance of his. Muggle, though he had a sister who was a witch and a friend of Logan's, so knew about us," he said. "Um, he wanted to watch while I made out with his dummy." He bit his lip and blushed. "It was very strange and I think Logan did it on purpose, just to see my face when I told him about it."

He shuddered at the memory. "Okay, your turn. What was your worst date? Hopefully it will be as embarrassing as mine."

Merlin, how in the world had Terry gotten stuck with so many horrid dates in the past? He seemed to be filled with creepy, weird arsed bloke stories. He shook his head slightly at the tale, before realizing that it was his turn to come up with a bad date story. He'd had plenty, though the majority of his were not nearly as bad as Terry's. Roger had been pretty good in the past about... screening his dates, to a point, or at the very least kicking them out on their arse if they turned out to be not as attractive as he'd originally thought.

"I don't think I've ever had a date as bad as that, though I did go out with a girl once who wanted to use a ginormous strap on..." He shrugged a shoulder, not really able to think of another properly horrible date. "Best date, then?"

Terry cocked his head to the side, his confusion showing on his face at Roger's story. "A strap on what?" he asked, wrinkling his nose as he tried to figure it out. When it finally became clear he blushed a bright red and his eyes flew wide. "Oh! Oh, that's..." He was going to say embarrassing, but a part of him wondered just exactly how that would work...

When he got over his shock enough to realize that Roger had asked him a question, he shook his head. "Um, well...this one is shaping up quite nicely," he said quietly. "Maybe you could ask me again later this evening?"

"I think I could probably do that," Roger replied, with a slight grin. He'd found amusement in Terry's reaction to his description of one of his worse dates, but mostly just found it pleasing that Terry was liking their date at least that much. Not that he didn't expect, but, still... considering the bloke had stood him up once, he hadn't been sure what to expect.

It wasn't a normal occurrence, you know?
