Who: Seth and ?
When: Early morning on the fifteenth.
Where: A newsstand in DC.
What: Seth finds out Star's gone missing.

One thing Seth despised about this city was the cold and the icy wind that got funneled between buildings, cutting through anything you might be wearing, chilling you to the bone. He'd hated New York and Boston for the same reason and the only thing that made DC even marginally better was that it was further south. Winter didn't last quite so long. In fact, the only thing that made winter even marginally better, for him, was the storms that whipped through the area. He always liked a good storm, even if ice came with it. But he hated being cold.

So one could certainly understand why he was walking in a hunched sort of manner, hands buried in his pockets, chin stuffed into the collar of his leather jacket, moving quickly toward the escalator that led down into the Metro. All he wanted at that particular moment was to escape the chill February wind on his way to find an early morning breakfast. His attention was caught, however, by the morning headline as he passed a newsstand. And a picture.

He stopped, backed up, and leaned in closer to read the story, heedless all of a sudden of the cold air. The article told about how, the night before, intruders were reported breaking into the apartment of a particular "star" of the District social scene. She was now missing. There was no ransom note but the police were, of course, pursuing every lead, et cetera.

Had Ra-Bella done this? Seth's lips curled as he took the paper with him and stalked away, ignoring the complaints of the person manning the stand. If she had, she had better be prepared to give Star to him.

If she hadn't?

Someone was going to die.

Who: Bill and whoever'd like to talk
When: Midafternoon
Where: By the Capitol Reflection Pool.

Bill was sitting, stretched out on the semi-sun-warmed concrete, soaking up as much of what little warmth there was that he could before the temperature began to drop as the sun headed down below the horizon. He didn't mind being just another one of the city's homeless except when it got cold. Then again, he probably wasn't the only one who felt that way.

Still, things were moving, and Bill had been hearing some more disturbing things than usual. Not just what the news reported, either. Whispers on the street. The sorts of things that made him keep one eye behind him at all times. Figuratively speaking. Made him jumpy.

Who: Kari Erickson and Damion Sorosin
Where: The Secret Lab (shh)
When: After Star's kidnapping.
What: Who better to seek advice from than Fate itself? Too bad she's only Seven and cryptic at best.

===

Kari blinked a little as she looked at the tall man quietly. She hadn't been allowed to play outside in a long time, unless it was on the roof and away from other kids. In truth, Kari was lonely, but was assured with the knowledge that like all things...this too would eventually change. Things come to pass daily, as if someone had reached up and plucked at a string, the vibrations of the music bouncing off the strings of the others, each rippling into the other.

There was always a choice to be made, and the choices made determined the results of everything around them. In some ways, science had defined the nature of life in complete, concise words. Cause and effect. It was the only firm truth in life. Even when the gods had ruled, they had been subject to cause and affect.

No one understood that better than Loki, who she imagined was near the city. This one, or maybe one of the others where many were starting to gather. Some aware, some not.

Like Jack, who had no clue what he was...what he was capable of. The business world did not even know what he was capable of, but it would be great. So many were able to do great things....

Even Mr. Sorosin himself. But he didn't even know that about himself...or, then again, maybe he did.
